sublingual methadone

Either way should be fine. Some say that letting them dissolve under the tounge works a little better/faster, but I really havent seen any actual medical data to back that up. I do know that some other drugs kick in quicker and stronger(it seems) when taken sublingually, such as alprazolam or clonazepam, but its not really much of a differenc as long as the oral BA is high enough....and I think the oral BA of methadone is plenty high in comparison to the sublingual BA.

Roughly 34% of Methadone was absorbed sublingually into the bloodstream over a 10 minute period.
Reference: Weinberg DS, Inturrisi CE, Reidenberg B, Moulin DE, Nip TJ, Wallenstein S, Houde RW, Foley KM., Department of Neurology, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, NY.

From my understanding (I was previously a pharmacy student) what this indicates is that you WILL experience a faster onset of effects sublingually. Unfortunately the test does not specify what percent was absorbed at intervals during the time frame, merely that 34% was absorbed at the end of the ten minutes. The other 66% is not lost, it is merely absorbed later once the dose has been swallowed.

Summary: Yes, sub lingual administration will cause a faster onset of the methadone. The fast onset dose will not be very strong (it may not be enough to achieve the desired high quickly); however, once the pill is absorbed in the stomach you will still achieve the full effect of the medication. I would recommend sublingual administration, there seems to be no downside unless you are bothered by the taste.

ya, doesnt seem like any downside to me either....

happy trails...........

I prefer to take methadone sublingually, same with xanax and valium. Seems to work a little quicker that way. Try it both ways to see which you prefer.

the wafers (the ones that dissolve easily) are actually supposed to go in a cup of water I believe, rather than sublingual, I cant imagine the taste being worth the slight difference in effect.

the first/only/last time i took methadone i took it sublingually, it burnt the bottom of my tongue!

burnt it? how so?

i wish i had some spare done' right about now......

Are you saying that oral administration of methadone has a 100% BA?

I didnt realize that. Im gonna go look that shit up to make sure, cuz I dont know any opiates that have 100% oral BA's.

Cuz the only way the "other 66% is not lost" and still absorbed once swallowed is if the oral BA for methadone is 100%, otherwise, only a certain percentage of that leftover "66%" would be absorbed....whatever the actual oral BA of oral methadone is.....that is if its not 100% of course.

Yeah, I believe he surely meant a portion of the 66% would be absorbed. I too have never heard of an opiate with 100% oral BA. I thought Oxy. was the highest, at around 71%.

Best

he meant that the 35 percent was absorbed with the subling use.... and rest would be absorbed when it reached the stomach.......

The 10mg tablets he is referring to aren't the Wafers. The wafers are 40mg and they don't have much of a taste at all but taking it sublingual would take forever as they are "big"!

Sublingual the effects will kick in quicker but not stronger.

lol how big?

i didnt mean to add the / but since ive been quoted already i wont edit....

I take most pills sublingually and some, like mali, work better that way... methadone does burn though
