Invest in anything.(legal) If youre not working go to a charity shop see if theyve got some good old records. Or leather shoes/bags. Try a carboot at the weekend if they are still running. Maybe you'll come across some vintage stuff thats in demand or something antique. Thats how I started.

Youll be surprised the stuff that sells on ebay or at market/carboot sales.

This works great for some individuals but it doesn't work at all for an entire class.

Yes, because investing in anything was clearly not the reason the market crashed three years ago. :D

Nice, Kappadaftie...is that your own parable? Link to Spoilsbury Toast Boy episodes appreciated as well.

Yeah, I started typing a sensible response and then realised it would achieve nothing. It would have been a waste of my time and it would have added nothing useful to the debate.

This way, at least I got some enjoyment out of it :)

Once I'd finished, I'd typed "getting fucked in the ass" so many times that it stirred up images of Spoilsbury Toast Boy episode where the beetles start bumming the little kid and then he has to smear jam all over his granny's minge. =D

Knockanoo..class lol? What do you mean? (I seriously hope you dont mean what I think you mean)

RLP.. Sorry you must have missed the post before. I said invest £20.

You are wrong.

yeah i credited you with too much intelligence. i'm pretty sure you could have worked this all out before starting the job and hence not ended up in your current position.

anyway i don't really care about the particulars of agencies i'm just fed up of you blaming other people for the down sides of your own decisions.

if the job you chose to quit before going travelling was better than your current job in any sense, the shiteness of your current job is in part a consequence of your decision. own it, like a man spade.

if agencies are unanimously cheaper i wonder why anyone's employed directly.... hmmm.... (actually probably cos agencies are pretty incompetent but i do also know specific examples where starting in house recruitment, i.e. sacking the agency, has been undertaken as a money saving exercise)

I believe the EU has fucked them up the arse with a new ruling. Since October anyone working at a place 3 months must be paid the same as the permanent staff.

^lol the cunts that run Royal Mail have found a sweet way round this....

for years any casuals/agency staff were employed by Reed recruitment.

This year suddenly Reed were replaced by Angrad recruitment.

A little nosing about by some of our more militant comrades founhd that the directors of Angrad are the same directors of Royal Mail, and registered business at same addreess.

Rm has quite high staffing costs, thanks to the union being strong and fairly militant over the years, and the staff supporting industrial action.

Those casuals employed by Angrad will be on Minimum wage.

Angrad will not give out contracts over 12 weeks, they MIGHT renew a contract after 12 weeks, but this means they remain on minimum wage.

EDIT>>>>>RM are not taking on any more staff directly, only through the Angrad agency.. complete pisstake.

I was about to reply to chinup that the people that manage the big employers are probably pals with the people that manage the big employment agencies. Thanks for making the even better point that they are often the same identical shower of cunts! It's a stitch up.

yeah, the RM plan is to totally casualise the work force, they were giving out 1hr weekly contracts for a while, so if they needed you they'd get you in, but if they didn't need you, or if you off sick, or on holiday, you got your 1 hour pay for the week.

The hope is that once the workforce is mainly casual, it will be much easier to sell off to a private buyer, DHL in all likelihood.

i believe this is also why the recent changes n RM which have led to a massive failure in quality of service have benn introduced....it's cost a fortune, so putting the company into deficit, so almost worthless on paper, and before long the public will start maoning about how bad the company has become, and the public too will be clamouring for us to be privatised.

Sack it then, get another job. Sounds rank. You've now got at least a bit of call centre experience, surely you can get something that isn't through what appears to be a glorified temp agency?

Saying that, I don't know how many call centres are around your area. There's literally fucking dozens (of very large ones) round here. If I could deal with sales I could get another job within a matter of weeks & probably earn more money by the time I hit bonuses & shit but fuck that, just speaking to cunts is enough of a mission without having to try & make them buy things as well.

I'm only planning to be there until the end of the year mate, well technically Xmas then come off for about 9 days and I aim to leave the country.

Buy and sell stuff. Ive been my own boss for 15 years and made a good wage. With a bit of outlay you can make a profit. Invest £20 in something
and see if you can see a £20 profit. * look at Alan Sugar *

I wouldn't even know where to start or what to sell tbh.

It might be your strike JB, but spades the one who'se going to end up paying for your pension. On the day of the strike perhaps you could ask UNISON to spare a thought for all those poor fuckers on £6.50 an hour giving money they can't afford to fund your retirement eh? ;)

LOL. :D

I needed money, this was the first place to offer me a job, I was aware of how shit it would be but I wanted money and to get out of the country ASAP so I think I made the right choice in taking it despite the fact I don't particularly like it. The fact people like me get paid minimum wage and treated like shit is no one but the Government and big businesses fault. Here we are in 2011 and still not everyone in the workplace has equal rights, it's a scandal.
The job I had before this was full time gambler followed by travelling round South America for 6 months, course it was better.

Are you really trying to argue agencies are more expensive. They are used for a reason and it isn't because it makes employees more happy and productive.

Yeah but the law is a joke and there's dozens of loopholes. Just being off sick or on holiday in the 12 week period exempts you. As Mailmoney has pointed out the agencies just offer 12 week contracts now then make you sign a new one after 12 weeks or in my case when we signed a contract there was a clause in it that says if we signed this we exempted ourselves from the new law (I didn't even know about the law so I had no idea what I signed away tbh) and now any new starts to the agency I work for are told if they don't sign away the right they won't have a job. This sort of stuff is happening at loads of companies (probably all) that use agencies, few mates who work in different fields are experiencing the same too. No one appears to be getting the equal pay and benefits that was promised by this new EU law and even those who have worked for the agency for years (and haven't recently signed a contract exclusding them) are being told they won't be getting it. Is anyone actually benefiting?

Oh Im glad you came in Knockando.. What did you mean by the post you made before the last one? ( post 143)

Spade have a browse somewhere that sells second hand stuff and see what comes your way. I suggested this to
a friend of mine a few years ago. She bought a leather holdall for about £5 sold it for £150 on ebay. Got the buzz for it
and a few years later is just about to open her own shop selling second hand leather goods.

You know if somethings a bargain or not. If you like the look of something so would someone else.

If you're going to be able to get out of here after xmas then batter in. Deal with the shite job for a while & get yourself to fuck. Doesn't sound like a bad plan when there's an end to it.

YPDH - If you're going to buy something on the cheap & sell it with a hefty mark-up then you do as has already been mentioned - punt drugs. Just remember the 6th commandment - "That god damn credit, dead it". Selling drugs is easy, getting the money for them is not. Cocaine beats handbags when it comes to making money %) ... it also beats handbags when it comes to developing a habit & running up a nasty (legs broken if it was with a different person) tick bill :\

Edit - I should add, I was talking about years ago. Trying to make money selling drugs is a bad idea kids.

no. no i am not. i used the word 'unanimously' indicating an absolute, therefore i only require one case of what i am saying in order to be correct. i am arguing that in the case i know, where in house recruitment has been set up as an alternative to using agencies, as a money saving exercise, agencies are more expensive. as i have already said, the main reason i see for using agencies is to be able to sack employees on the spot/get round other aspects of employment law.

and i should also repeat that i do think your situation is fucked, i just think you should have anticipated it better, that way you'd have been able to forsee these problems and have done something, like wait a week for a better job offer (my boyfs tactic when refusing all call centre work and actually he was in a new job in a week). personal responsibility is something i have a strong belief in. cos at the end of the day, the only person looking out for you is you.

Are you sure about that monkey? The way I understood the law was if you employ a temporary worker (ANY) temporary worker for longer than 12 weeks then they get full pay. If you sack the guy you had for 11 weeks and hire someone else, he automatically gets full pay in his first week because you've had a temporary worker for 12 weeks - unless you can prove he isn't doing the same job. This idea that you can just sack someone after 11 weeks and take another guy on doing the same job is complete bullshit. It's an automatic 10 grand fine.

The whole point of this is so the government gets national insurance from companies - rather than agencies not paying any. Any loopholes are going to very, very difficult to get through. The taxman is going to fuck them upside down if they even try.

Obviously if royal mail could have just sacked agency workers after 12 weeks they would have done - they realised they couldn't get away with that so they've had to create their own company to hire temp workers in a bid to get round it.
