Blaze Foley was homeless pretty much his entire adult life. Was murdered by a gunshot wound to the stomach. A feature film about his life called Blaze came out a few years ago, directed by Ethan Hawke. But I still consider his music to be obscure.

Yes. The only reason I've even heard of him is because I'm a huge fan of Townes Van Zandt, a somewhat obscure singer/songwriter himself. I was doing my master's thesis research on homeless musicians a decade ago and an old guy who knew Townes and was a friend of Blaze encouraged me to look him up. Blaze and Townes were good friends and hung out whenever Townes was in Austin.

I, too, like Townes Van Zandt. He's a bit of a parallel hero to us die-hard Jason Molina fans.

I don't remember my first hearing him (Foley), but it was sometime last year.
