Stimulants for Exercise

(there are a few related threads, but nothing specific enough)

I wanted to get some input on what (if any) stimulants folks use before/during exercise, and what kind of exercise they're using them for.

I use just about any combination of caffeine, ginseng, guarana, and taurine that's handy, so long as there's enough caffeine, and use them for both strength training and endurance. A lot of times, it's just coffee that I have on hand, although my race-day favorite is 2 parts flat red bull diluted with 1 part water. And for longer efforts (2 hours or more) I prefer caffeinated energy gels, as the carbs are a huge boost as well.

So I'm basically using whatever caffeine source is convenient whenever I exercise. I really don't use a large quantity, but prefer to keep a slow steady flow of it coming in over a period of time. Was wondering if others out there are more specific about what they use, or have compelling arguments for/against different substances or combinations?
 
I knew a dude who use to do meth before working out. He seemed to be in very good shape and faired well in ROTC competitions. Otherwise, his life was an emotional mess....

I usually drink some green tea if I'm tired, not really sure if it helps me or not.
 
Caffeine: take some green or white tea ( a cup or two ) before working out. It is superior to coffee or energy drinks as it contains theophylline and theobromine. One or both of these stimulate muscles wonderfully, which caffeine lacks.

Ginseng: Korean and Chinese ginsengs in particular, yes they definitely pumps me up and increases blood flow, but, try taking it with..

Gingko Biloba: also used to increase circulation. Is very very synergistic with ginseng!!

Pseudoephedrine: used as a decongestant. It's like ephedrine, but less stimulating and more safe. Used in combination with caffeine (and related chemicals as per tea) it is quite stimulating.

I have had the best workouts of my life using caffeine and pseudoephedrine. Using all of the above is probably safe, to an extent. I wouldn't go for an extreme bench press increment increase or anything like that..

The main thing that I can recommend is moving away from red bull (waste of money) and to highly concentrated green tea. Drink a few shots of that stuff before a race and you won't want to stop at the finish line ;)

i find that i build substance-specific tolerances, so having something else to go to is always worth looking into.

are there stimulants with pseudoephedrine that you recommend . . or just something like sudafed?

the one advantage of red bull (that i'm sure i could find in some more natural, and cheaper, source) is that it does contain taurine, which i've read also synergizes with caffeine to improve endurance/performance.
 
If you're using it for strength training you can get some mixes that work great.
Only one I've used it Jack3d and it worked well. Maybe something for you to check out. I usually get amazing workouts whenever I take it.
 
Coca leaf, kola nut, vitamin Bs. Take your extractions from these and add syrups and carbonated water. :)

Guarana is good as well, if you find unheated very high quality stuff... most of it is just cooked to give a pseudo amphetamine-like effect that quickly wears off so it's not taken very seriously. But if you can get good stuff, you'll realize what a powerful adaptogen it is... it can even put you to sleep if that's what your body needs. Guarana and cacao extract can usually take me to where I wanna be for a great workout, but I'll also be able to sleep at night, aiding recovery...

bluehairman mentioned Jacked... I agree, it's one of the more effective prepared "mixes" available... I'd throw Spike Shooters and tabs in that category as well.

Do NOT use meth before working out... I don't understand people that do this! They're shooting themselves in the foot regardless of their fitness goals.

in teh USA you can purchase pseudoephedrine at any gas-station as pep pills or "max-alerts" and at the pharmacy they are sold over the counter for asthma. It is a bronchiodialator. But any pseudoephedrine preperation you buy will also have guafesin in it. Taking too much guaf will make your chest burn.

i've generally found anything in pill form at gas stations gives me more of a "dirty speed" feel than is helpful. part of it is also my preference for substances that are in solution so i can dose slowly and evenly.

i'm interested in anyone who may know more about taurine and b-vitamins and their relationship to energy levels. the only sources of them i use have so many other things that it's hard to distinguish what is and isn't useful.
 
I have heard GHB recommended because of the release of growth hormone it causes. Would phenibut, which is still available, also cause a release of growth hormone?

Injectable B12...other than that I'd say you're wasting your money. ahaha maybe laying off the reefer could help with energy?? :D I"m just saying man

As far as other stimulants, I took some dexedrine before my last cross country meet in highschool and finished better than usual, passing eight people from my team that I usually finished behind. However, I don't know if it was the drug, or me telling myself to run harder because I had taken it. Either way, I felt like shit afterwards.
 
I like at least a cup of coffee or two. When I workout on my days off of work in the morning I usually take some kinds of pre workout boost

GHB is useless as it also raises cortisol and prolactin levels which would counteract the benefits.
 
This may seem ridiculous to some people, but I find cannabis to be a great workout stimulant. For me, cannabis is only sedating hours after ingestion, if at all. With it, great amounts of stored energy is released, allowing me push myself harder during strenuous hikes.

In addition to having more energy, working out while high is also great fun :D

i'm a competitive distance runner and vape/smoke before nearly every workout. i could write pages on how well weed and exercise go together for me, but i'll stay on topic and just mention that it synergizes wonderfully with whatever stimulant i may be using.
 
I can't even leave my couch- I leave the pot till after workout to help me pile in some calories.

I just dose caffine pre workout. Sometimes adding green tea, b-vits, taurine, ALCAR, ephedrine, clenbuterol, etc depending on what I'm doing and what I've got lying around.

On cycle I sometimes use M-DHT which is a highly androgenic substance that provides good aggression for weight lifting.
 
Weed and caffiene work so great together for me. Weed helps me focus a lot more.
