Stimulants as workout supplements?

I cant see how taking anything more than a threshold dose of a stim would do much more than raise your risk of cardio damage. More energy yes, but I'd not want to trade the performace for health.

You can always monitor your pulse with a pulse watch.

I've taken adderall, caffeine and purple wrath(energy cocktail) and my heart was beating very fast during my work out. One time I was even seeing colours if I pushed myself far enough. Although I had a great work out I don't think my heart enjoyed the rapid beating.

I would only recommend very small amounts of stimulants or better to stay away from them altogether.

I feel like using stims for workout out would cause a lot of muscle cramps and spasms.

Best to stick with pre workout supplements if you want that boost. I recommend jack3d :D

whats with all the people on this forum using recreational drugs like cocaine, weed and ecstacy..? they do nothing but hinder ur goals as a bodybuilder. im way 2 serious about bodybuilding 2 be f'ing around with recreational drugs, if ur not then thats fair enough. to each his own :)

Rather than quitting my work out routine, I continue even with drug use in the picture. No matter how difficult it is to get my hungover/strung out ass in the gym. I party, club, rave and still manage to lift 6 times a week; As well as maintaining a strict diet.

My drug use is moderate. I take ecstasy/other psychedelics maybe once every 2 months and alcohol is a complete no-go unless it's a special occasion. I used to be very reserved in my "drug" use when I first started lifting, but I realized that there are times when I can enjoy myself and not suffer any detrimental effects on my gains.

Though this mindset is a school of hard-knocks and not for everyone at all.

One stimulant not mentioned is adrafinil, the prodrug of modafinil, whichever one you can get your hands on. I find adrafinil doesn't give me the crazy heart rate increase that adderall does, and so it's a lot easier to take preworkout. I remember the first time I used adrafinil I got some heart rate increase but after that it never did it again.

It also doesn't give you the catabolism that amphetamines do, or at least it doesn't seem to hurt my strength in the gym while the few times I tried adderall preworkout I definitely felt some lost strength. I read a while ago that amphetamines are catabolic to muscle, but have never been able to find a source (ie, scientific paper) on it.

I also like piracetam and aniracetam. I usually only use aniracetam with adrafinil though because it can make you a bit lethargic. Sometimes I feel like the calmness I get from aniracetam is good though because I can get real focused for heavy olympic lifts like power clean, clean & press and snatch. Piracetam is great mixed with caffeine, especially with good music on your headphones. I find piracetam really makes me get into the music while I workout. I pretty much suck at working out without my mp3 player lol.

I get a lot of supplements from biotest. They have a number of great products to use preworkout. Their energy drink spike shooter is great, but it has yohimbine in it so if you are not used to them they will send your heart into overdrive at first. I have a huge tolerance to them now after drinking them for a number of years so it's nothing for me. Also their power drive is excellent. It is another light stimulant, and can get your heart going from the tyrosine especially if you're not used to it, but once you use it a few times you will understand. The DMAE in it also works great as your choline precursor to mix with any of the racetams.

Using stimulants while on gear long term is bad news. Most people will end up with a hardened / thickened left ventricle in the heart. I don't even do heavy cardio while on a gram+/wk cycle.

I went through a preworkout powder phase when I started lifting. They're mostly useless.
I always drink two mugs of black coffee before working out. A really dark, strong roast.
Coffee has antioxidents. Occasionally I take an endorush but I'd never take something like
Adderal. That seems ...stupid.

I personally don't like any stimulants for muscle training. Maybe a cup of green tea, but no more caffeine than that. As for prescription stimulants, I have an experience with Adderall XR and weight training. I almost passed out. Got super light headed, and felt sick. Almost like my blood sugar was at an insanely low level.

Caffeine and all other stims always make me jittery and I tend to get tired much faster on them. My heart pounds and this exhausts me faster than usual.

Try a cup of green tea. Green tea has plenty of antioxidants and green tea has been known to assist in weight loss in some people. Also green tea has theanine in it which, in my opinion, increase focus a lot more than simply caffeine and it also allows the caffeine to be more smooth and less uncomfortable.

Happy exercising!

According to recent medical studies on the effects of DMAA(http://www.la-press.com/hemodynamic...healthy-adults-ingesting-dietar-article-a2947), you will come to find that it is a safe, naturally occurring compound derived from geranium oil and the plant. It is a main ingredient in various "pre-workout" stimulants, and it does not cause adverse side effects. It is actually compared to drinking 2-3 cups of coffee. Of course, like any stimulant, it is important to take the recommended dose and no more. Also, it should not be mixed with additional stimulants like caffeine.

Please see http://dmaaissafe.com for more information on DMAA as well as links to the studies mentioned.
