I thought this might be an interesting thread.

What do you guys do to keep healthy?

Do you have any tips for minimising the effect drugs have on your physical and mental health?

What are some things that you could do better to stay healthy in terms of drug use, or just in general?

Well after spending 7 months eating what ever I wanted, drinking most days, doing coke about 3-4times a week, smoking a pack and a half a day, and not really exercising (except for the odd trek), I have decided to get healthy again. Completely cleaned up my diet (low GI carbs, high protein, low fat), cut down on the smoking, only used drugs harder than codeine or a few beers once in the last month and a half. I'm also going to gym most days, and have lost some weight and built a good amount of muscle back (I used to go the gym alot).

My tips for staying healthy whilst using drugs are pretty simple. drink water regularly (number one). If your going on a bender, then remember too eat. Actually just try not to go on benders haha. have benzos handy for insomnia/comedowns - these are perfect for mental health as this is time I tend to freak myself out. Oh and now that MDMA is back, please please keep use to no more than once monthly. I honestly think that overusing MDMA can lead to depression and anxiety developing in a lot of people.

What I could do better - quit smoking. My lung capacity sucks, and I can feel it being unhealthy for me.

How about you guys?

Id say most drugs will have a huge impact of on ur life. I am a fitness freak and gave up pretty much everything and havnt had any regrets and feeling liek a million bucks at the moment. i workout 5 times a week, I do 4 hours of stretching per week and yoga twice / week. I take protein powders, highest quality of vitamins and few other bits and pieces (all legal). No need to cut out carbs seriously. Aim for low GI diet, heaps better. Good to see when someone cares for there health. To be honest I never really gave a shit about my health when I was using every drug under the sun. I never had a blood test for roughly 20 years or so. Was a kid last time I had it but got that done as well. The older you get the more u realize how important your health is. I work around people who have a wide range of health problems and that made me think a little. Whats ur life worth if ur dont have ur health? You have to make that decision. Like u mentioned drink heaps of water everyday, eat clean and not junkfood and dont treat urself to sugary foods or drink except maybe once a week on a cheat day within moderation.

I say skip the benzos if ur arnt addicted to them, they will cause u way more harm then good, this is coming from someone who was having 8-10mg every night for a long time. Stimulants and gym do not mix and they deplete ur body from vitamins and minerals not to mention other problems also. Its a good start your on just make sure u keep to it and be sensible. If I do go out which is pretty rare these days Id have sum MDMA maybe once every 6 months or so mainly on special occasions. The only thing I use is Codeine on a regular basis but Ive yet to see any negative impact so far (been using it for few years now). Its ur life and ur decision. With the right frame of mind I made these decisions and trying to keep to it. Its not that hard, just imagine how u felt before u started abusing drugs, wish I could relive that period seriously. Not saying i regretted it, not once would I say I would. Actually learnt from it and made some good and bad friends along the way but thats what life is about, its all just a learning experience. Some people learn from others some people dont. Good luck with it all man and wishing u the best.

Keep working! always have a day job. Laziness is for slobs...

Listen to your heart... you know what is right and wrong for you!

Love someone, and always always ! make sure you having the best SEX!

simple.

Try not to stock up for the people who cant resist the urge to re-dose, and multivitamins/benzos for binges, If I cant eat I drink a Up & Go Liquid breakfast (or just avoiding binges as you said) easier said than done though.

For me proper sleep makes all the difference. I no longer fiend until daybreak and stumble home to try and sleep the day away. I prefer to take drugs during the day and hit the hay around midnight. I haven't had a comedown since. Pushing my body for 24hr straight is a recipe for pain, I struggle to play catch up if I do.

Avoiding red wine is also key for me avoiding any hangover. I can have 2 glasses maximum with nothing else and pull up fair, but as soon as I mix it with any other drink I guarantee myself a headache the next day.

For me proper sleep makes all the difference.

Yes! definately.

Getting sleep makes a huge difference. the comedown will diminish drastically, and you can think alot clearer. To be honest I would say most of the psychotic style symptoms present with heavy methamphetamine use are mostly the result of severe sleep depriavtion. Having suffered from bad insomnia before, I can tell you that no sleep for days will make you a anxious, paranoid mess (plus give you hallucinations). sleep is vital for good mental health.

^ i think that's good advice about tripping in the day. i'm trying to break out of 5+ years of being nocturnal...but i agree that a big part of drug fatigue and comedowns has to do with staying awake for unnatural amounts of time.
i have had a few health issues lately, but i guess my general method of staying healthy is to eat unprocessed foods and that sort of thing.
i'm not really in any position to talk about healthy lifestyles, even though i am health conscious.
there are certain drugs i associate with illness (cigarettes and alcohol especially, which i don't touch - and stimulants which i use very rarely).

sleep is very, very important for health and wellness. i think my main problem is that i never get enough, and i'm working on restructuring my whole existence to try get more - i'm not used to this 9-5 schtick.

I'm a health/nutrition freak in general. I eat really clean, and track my diet every day. I also try to sleep at least 6 - 8 hours a day, along with exercising every day. Lifting 3 times a week and cardio on off days. I also cook everything I eat, and always opt to eat whole foods in general.

I don't drink, and rarely smoke cigarettes. I think being really healthy has helped with bad comedowns and whatnot. I've not suffer from any comedowns on MDMA since becoming stupidly healthy, but that may just be lucky body chemistry. When I was younger and in really bad shape, MDMA comedowns were hellish and I always needed benzos to alleviate em.

I agree on avoiding benzos as they do terrible things to one's brain and mental health - even with occasional use. The problem is most people don't notice it (also due to the benzo itself) It is only after prolonged use and then abstaining that one really understands these buggers.

I tend to care about health/lifestyle quite a lot and that's why I've for the most part given up on 3-4 times a week of opiate trance/insomnia. Sleep is really vital followed by water and then nutrition. I use a good multivitamin, zinc/magnesium before sleep and a shit load of fish oil....up to 20 tabs a day. I exercise 5 times a week at the gym and try to stick to a 4 drink limit on days I do drink. I quit smoking and keep caffeine to 1-2 a day.

Really good point about taking drugs during the day I think. I am avoiding opiate insomnia by not taking it after lunch anymore. My horrendously high doses just didnt let me sleep. With amp I will only do it immediately after waking up(breakfast that is), never binge and have plenty of liquid meals whilst on it.

If I can't sleep I'll drink 2 glasses of wine or take some beta blockers (propranolol). I am completely over and done with benzos.

On that note, does anybody have any other suggestions for sleep aids besides benzos/z-drugs for amp comedowns?

I dislike the antihistamines so they are not an option.

^I sometimes eat cannabis after a trip or some other comedown-inducing drug experience, instead of using benzos or other sleeping pills.
there are countless ways to cook weed, but my favourite is to make a warm milk drink. it's definitely not beyond a scattered person to whip up a batch, it's so easy.
i usually use leaf/tip (1 or 2 tablespoons of finely chopped material) and lately i've been using vaped bud, which is much stronger than i thought it would be, so dose with care.
you can also use bud, if you wish. i'm not sure how much i would recommend as i tend to usually smoke/vape buds and eat the less desired parts of the plant when i have access to them.
all i do is put a couple of cups of milk or soy milk into a pot, add cannabis and bring to the boil. then gently simmer from between 10 and 30 minutes, making sure you continuously stir so it doesn't burn and stick or boil over.

for me a big benefit of this method is that you can gauge your dose quite well (it's not like eating a dose of butter from a huge multi-ounce batch and hoping for the best) you can cook it easily, one (or as many as desired) dose at a time. there are few things as horrible as overdosing on ingested cannabis, really not a fun time. it comes on really fast, especially with an empty stomach
it also tastes really good - add some honey or hot chocolate, especially good in winter. i find it is good for that point at which you need to crash for 12+ hours after being up for a while, but you just need something to push you over the line.
rather than waking up after a few hours and feeling all alert from residual stimulant effects, this can be good for that heavy, dead-to-the-world post drug sleep. you're more likely to wake up feeling baked *___*
like a lot of sleep aids though, if you eat (or drink) cannabis to get to sleep too often, it stops being effective.

Cannabis is indeed a medicine while also being recreational if needed.

It is without a doubt a safe alternative to many pharmacuitial drugs IMO.

Don't do drugs more than once every other day.

If you're smoking shards, eat something and drink water.

Take week long breaks (or more) to give your body time to recover. You'll save money too.

I think once a week would be a slightly better option depending of course on what ur using. Every 2nd day is very bad if using harder substances.

I agree, but I'm talking about soft drugs too - smoking cones and drinking beers every day is still bad for you. I remember as soon as I cut weed and grog out of my diet it was like coming out of a fog. I could actually remember things and I was just so much more "with it". Keeping all drugs to the weekends is the way to do it.

I used to be extremely underweight, smoking bongs everyday...replacing meals with them a once point. I started going to gym 5 days a week, cut out all sodas and junk food. Now i have a fairly well constructed low GI diet with high protein and low fat. I take weight gainers, casien proteins and a multivitamin daily and since doing this i have noticed MDMA hits me alot faster, and come downs are non existent. If i go hard i do feel a bit lethargic and hazey the next day but rarely do i feel depressed or anything like that.

Also, working fulltime and going to the gym has increased my self esteem aswell. It has just made me happier in general. When i wasn't working i felt looked down upon by society and just didn't feel good about myself. Now that all this has changed it keeps me in a much better mood daily. I think these things also contribute the the quality of the high you get on MDMA.

I'm no doctor but that is what i feel from my experiences :)

'Drug experience' - sounds nice. Unfortunately I am what I call poly-drug dependant. This basically means I have to use almost EVERY day....just something. Could even just be 1 beer. But going 1 or 2 days completely without anything is almost impossible for me.
