Songs that AINT about drugs, that you think secretly ARE about drugs

How about the song "H." by Tool. Here's an excerpt:

And as the walls come down and
As I look in your eyes
My fear begins to fade
Recalling all of the times
I have died
and will die.
It's all right.
I don't mind.

I am too connected to you to
Slip away, to fade away.
Days away I still feel you
Touching me, changing me,

And considerately killing me.

The Mango Song by Phish:
"tranquil and serene until he runs out of supplies"........also anything by Gram Parsons

Example #1 -

The song "Follow me" by that one hit wonder guy Uncle cracker from like 2001.
It goes "I dont know how i met you i dont know why/but i just cant turn around and say goodbye/all i know is when im with you, you make me free/and you swim thru my veins like a fish in the sea/singin 'follow me everything is all right/ill be the one to tuck you in at night/and if you wanna leave i can guarantee you wont find nobody else like me.""

Tell me that shit aint about dope! :D Come on...But i think that if you told that to any 'normal' person they would be like you stupid...that shits a love song.

I had a friend tell me this was about dope but im not sure how he knew for sure that it was.

The one I like and IDK if it is or isnt about dope addiction but it sure as fuck sounds like my life...

Nine Inch Nails - every day is exactly the same

I believe I can see the future
Because I repeat the same routine
I think I used to have a purpose
Then again, that might have been a dream

I think I used to have a voice
Now I never make a sound
I just do what I've been told
I really don't want them to come around
Oh, no

Every day is exactly the same
Every day is exactly the same
There is no love here and there is no pain
Every day is exactly the same

I can feel their eyes are watching
In case I lose myself again
Sometimes I think I'm happy here
Sometimes, yet I still pretend
I can't remember how this got started
But I can tell you exactly how it will end

just remember yall its about songs that aint about drugs. hotel california is sooooo wellknown to be about coke and the cocaine culture in california in the 70s. i thought everybody knew that its about drugs. "Stab it with their steely knives..." is about cuttin coke with the razor. and so on.

when he talkin about we aint had that SPIRIT here since 1969, its talking about that spirit of change, of hope, of the whole "peace and love" hippie generation in the 60s that really thought a revolution was possible.but after the summer of 69 that all died, and it gave way to the 70s which was a decade full of cynicism, selfishness, etc, people went from bein all peace and love brother to bein all for themselfs, etc. i think most of us got the idea of how the 70s was. a very selfish hedonistic type of decade especially in hollywood and california in the music and movie industry. the whole spirit , the whole atmosphere changed. the idea with that lyric at least the way i always understood it, was that the time for all that love shit is past and now its just every man for himself, killin off his loneliness with drugs and shallow relationships and casual sex. etc.

anyways tho, this aint about arguing about song meanings so im sorry , just wantd to point that out. But if you didnt know it was about drugs, i think you are in the minority--its common knowledge that its a drug song. So, i dont think it really fits here, since this is about songs that aint drug songs but you are just reading your own personal meaning into it. Not a thread about "uncover popular songs that have drug meanings." you feel me? sorry if it was confusing.

To clear it up--

many songs that are popular and well known might not be DIRECTLY, OBVIOUSLY about drugs, but are still absolutely about drugs, and if you pay attention, its clearly about drugs. so you are just uncovering the drug meaning, that is already there.

This is about songs that really AINT about drugs , but that you find your own personal meaning related to drugs, inside of the lyrics.:)

That NeYo song, strung out on you..

I can barley move, but I like it

Tell myself I'll stop everyday knowing that I won't.. that line.. wow

For some reason I've always associated Alice Cooper's song "Poison" with drugs, when it's really just about some girl.

Your cruel device
Your blood like ice
One look could kill
My pain, your thrill

I want to love you, but I better not touch (Don't touch)
I want to hold you but my senses tell me to stop
I want to kiss you but I want it too much (Too much)
I want to taste you but your lips are venomous poison
You're poison runnin' through my veins
You're poison, I don't want to break these chains

Your mouth, so hot
Your web, I'm caught
Your skin, so wet
Black lace on sweat

I hear you calling and it's needles and pins (And pins)
I want to hurt you just to hear you screaming my name
Don't want to touch you but you're under my skin (Deep in)
I want to kiss you but your lips are venomous poison

You're poison runnin' through my veins
You're poison, I don't want to break these chains
Poison

One look could kill
My pain, your thrill

I want to love you, but I better not touch (Don't touch)
I want to hold you but my senses tell me to stop
I want to kiss you but I want it too much (Too much)
I want to taste you but your lips are venomous poison
You're poison runnin' through my veins
You're poison, I don't want to break these chains

Poison

I want to love you, but I better not touch (Don't touch)
I want to hold you but my senses tell me to stop
I want to kiss you but I want it too much (Too much)
I want to taste you but your lips are venomous poison, yeah
I don't want to break these chains, Poison, Oh no
Runnin' deep inside my veins, Burnin' deep inside my veins
It's poison, I don't want to break these chains

Black and yellow makes me think of smoking heroin... I know it's not, but it reminds me of it because the trail gets yellow then it gets black... Black and yellow all day.

The View - Face for the Radio

http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/3530822107858640176/

You have a face for the radio,
But I know youd like to see it in a show,
Claiming to be the next best everything,
Which way will you go?

Youre a little smarter than most of us,
You run so fast sometimes its hard to see you for dust,
Finding some time for you, it tortures me,
Which way will you go?

Wages on a Friday,
Spent on a Saturday,
Lend me a fiver,
Wont do that again,
Oh your trust is not to strong.

Your arrogance in a bag,
Wont spare you a fag,
Superstar wannabe,
Says it comes naturally,
Cemented in your own feeble way,

He watches trainspotting, fifteen times a week,
Thinking its making him oh so unique,
PC on summer nights and football in the rain,
Doesnt matter how far he is,
He always has money for the train,

Nothing against you, love in my heart,
Youre really a nice lad, Ive known it from the start,
Your conscience in eager, to know where you lie,
Pushing your limits, give it up and remember you can cry.

Wages on a Friday
Spent on a Saturday,
Lend me a tenner,
Wont do that again,
Oh your trust is not to strong.

Youre arrogance in a bag,
Wont spare you a fag,
Superstar wannabe,
Says it comes naturally,
in your own feeble way

Just screams Heroin to me, but others don't think so lol.

Learning to fly by Pink Floyd always reminds me of tripping :p

Into the distance, a ribbon of black
Stretched to the point of no turning back
A flight of fancy on a windswept field
Standing alone my senses reeled
Fatal attraction is holding me fast,
How can I escape this irresistible grasp?

Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted Just an earth-bound misfit, I

Ice is forming on the tips of my wings
Unheeded warnings, I thought I'd thought of everything
No navigator to find my way home
Unladened, empty and turned to stone

The soul intention is learning to fly
Condition grounded but determined to try
God keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earth-bound misfit, I

Above the planet on a wing and a prayer,
My grubby halo, a vapour trail in the empty air,
Across the clouds I see my shadow fly
Out of the corner of my watering eye
To dream unthreatened by the morning light
Could blow this soul right through the roof of the night

There's no sensation to compare with this
Suspended animation, A state of bliss
Can't keep my mind from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earth-bound misfit, I

I'm pretty surprised nobody has mentioned Hotel California by The Eagles.

NSFW:
On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air <-(colitas is spanish for little tail says the web, im puerto rican and my grandmother usually tells my cousins to move their colitas, their behinds, could also be read as little buds, could refer to marijuana)

Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light (when i think of shimmering i think of balance, not dark or light but just nullification of being)
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim <--onset of high
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway;
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself,
’this could be heaven or this could be hell’ ->(drugs feel nice thus heaven, withdrawals, tolerance, overdose, bad trips costrued as hell)
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor, (inhabitants of the drug house)
I thought I heard them say…

Welcome to the hotel california
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the hotel california
Any time of year, you can find it here ->(you can always find people who are slaves to their vices, especially in a drug den)

Her mind is tiffany-twisted, she got the mercedes bends
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friends-> (dealers)
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat. -> (drug deal going down)
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget -> (some use drugs to reminisce about better times, some to forget harsh ones)

So I called up the captain, ->(so i called up the dealer)
’please bring me my wine’ ->(please bring me my drug of choice)
He said, ’we haven’t had that spirit here since nineteen sixty nine’->(dealer is dry)
And still those voices are calling from far away, -> (the voices of the people you associate with, the people you use with, betrayed, etc.)
Wake you up in the middle of the night (you hear these people's voices when going through withdrawals, with have a tendency of waking you up at night or not letting you get any sleep at all)
Just to hear them say…

Welcome to the hotel california
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
They livin’ it up at the hotel california (cops come)
What a nice surprise, bring your alibis (give a name to give to the cops)

Mirrors on the ceiling,
The pink champagne on ice
And she said ’we are all just prisoners here, of our own device’ (We are all slaves to our drug of choice, but on the larger scale, victims of moral frailty)
And in the master’s chambers, (drug room)
They gathered for the feast (drugs)
The stab it with their steely knives, (needle)
But they just can’t kill the beast (addiction)

Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before <-(our innate desire as humans to do well, usually we were at a good point one time or another in our lives, and wish to return back to the proper path to happiness)
’relax,’ said the night man,
We are programmed to receive.
You can checkout any time you like,
But you can never leave! ->(check out meaning quit, but you can never stay clean for long)

The reason nobody said that is because it's not a secret that that song is 100% about marijuana. :p

"Kick Push" by Lupe Fiasco. It's got a little to do with skateboarding, but a lot to do with slangin'.

^ that kinda makes sense... but also kinda doesnt... im pretty sure he intends it to be about skateboarding. guess thats why you posted in the "songs that aint about drugs" thread haha

Songs by the Beatles:
1. A day in the life
"found my way upstairs and had a smoke, and somebody spoke and I went into a dream"
2. Lucy in the Sky with Diamond - hint "Lucy in the Sky with Diamond
3. Norwegian Wood - don't know why, my dad was really into the beatles (has every album every vinyl) and he said it was about smoking a joint.
4. Day Tripper - I'm pretty sure the Beatles refer their drugs to some girl in almost every song.
5. Happiness Is a warm gun - warm gun = heroin in a syringe.

^^^ norwegian wood is about a woman being the sexual agressor rather than a man... kind of an important song because it went against stereotypes and represented the sexually free, empowered woman

but if it brings some personal meaning to you about drugs, more power to you I guess

Something about burning the house and sleeping.. idk gotta listen to the song again, lol.

haha everytime i hear Uncle Kracker "Follow me" i relate it to drugs, although im sure its not, and if it is HA! to everyone ive said" this song is about IV drug use." and they like"shut up man!"

^ if your a heroin addict listen to the lyrics and decide

You don't know how you met me
You don't know why,
you cant turn around and say good-bye
All you know is when im with you I make you free
And swim through your veins like a fish in the sea
I'm singing....

Follow me
Everything is alright
I'll be the one to tuck you in at night
And if you want to leave
I can guarantee
You won't find nobody else like me

And I don't worry 'bout the ring you wear
Cause as long as no one knows
Than nobody can care
Your feelin' guilty
And I'm well aware
But you don't look ashamed
And baby I'm not scared
Im singin...
