Song lyrics quiz - NO GOOGLING PLEEASE

I'll tell you my story
The treachery it bores me
Carl and McGee both promised me
It would not happen this way
Carl is kept sedated
The frontman elevated

And McGee doing all he can to ruin my band
And keep me out the way

In this industry of fools
Musclemen and ghouls
If you're not a puppet or a muppet
Then you might as well call it a day-ayay

The truth here gets distorted
The wall scrapings get snorted
I'm welcome back if I give up crack
But you gave me my first pipe anyway

Can't show no decorum
Posts left on the forum
Was like a snapshot
Of the most tragic day

Gang of Gin... Shame they never released it .. Love that song ...

i've been walkin' these streets so long
Singin' the same old song
I know every crack in these dirty sidewalks of Broadway
Where hustle's the name of the game
And nice guys get washed away like the snow and the rain
There's been a load of compromisin'
On the road to my horizon
But I'm gonna be where the lights are shinin' on me

Well, I really don't mind the rain
And a smile can hide all the pain
But you're down when you're ridin' the train that's takin' the long way
And I dream of the things I'll do
With a subway token and a dollar tucked inside my shoe
There'll be a load of compromisin'
On the road to my horizon
But I'm gonna be where the lights are shinin' on me

Aye. We have a second old geezer or radio 2 listener on here ! =D

Not to take the piss though, what a great track. Witnessing a huge room of people belting out this great tune just after the stroke of midnight was 'proper buzzing like' as a yungun. (It'd still be good now)

I loved the song ever since as it associates with good memories. can you tell im stoned and cant sleep ?.....................

Apart from Sapace Oddity and Hunky Dory what would you have next, if you could only have 3 of his albums on your desert island.....

LOW is excellent, obviously hunky dory (particularly agree about Queen Bitch) then I dunno, there are lots of blinders, I can't pick three.

I miss those old tunes.

with proper melodies and lyrics and musicians you mean ? They are still around. Just getting harder to find if you dont download stuff. But available on YouTube in a flash. =D The HD sound Quality on You Tube is awesome played through good headphones. Someone told me the HDs on Youtube use a very high bandwidth. Many tracks certainly come through with far more impact than a low bitrate mp3 or other such shite did.

There's nothing to stop you still aquiring and playing them to your hearts content !!! ;):) There was something special about that era though eh.

Another radio2 afternoon classic:

Your beauty is beyond compare
With flaming locks of auburn hair
With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green
Your smile is like a breath of spring
Your voice is soft like summer rain
And I cannot compete with you.....

He talks about you in his sleep
There's nothing I can do to keep
From crying when he calls your name,.....

And I can easily understand
How you could easily take my man
But you don't know what he means to me, ......

Im begging of you please don't take my man
Please don't take him just because you can

You could have your choice of men
But I could never love again
Hes the only one for me,

I had to have this talk with you
My happiness depends on you
And whatever you decide to do....

Im begging of you please don't take my man
Please don't take him even though you can

The Strawberry Switchblade cover of 'Jolene' is a YouTube favourite of mine. Great erm... visuals. ;)

Who sang:

"I was sick and tired of everything,
When I called you last night from Tesco".

Just a snippet :-

You look like you're in another world
But I can read your mind
It's four o'clock in the morning
And it's starting to get light

The order is all important in an accurate answer :sus:

aye those sexy goth scottish tarts in fishnets and such. Ive not heard their version but loved 'Since Yesterday' and that bit in the middle when the sound would switch and wobble from speaker to speaker. Twas very good for 1984 or thereabouts. The Dolly Parton one is ace. The guitaring especially. Not that im a judge of a guitarists but it sounds fuckin ace to me.....

You probably know that White stripes did their own 'interpretation' of Jolene too. I havent been able to get into it. think it would take about 5 listens to get into it, if atall. for 2 people the WS sure make a lot of noise.
