Hey guys,
I just saw a film called It's complicated.
Now Im not here to talk about the film but rather the use of Marijuana within the film. This film without being a stoner film certainly allows the erb to be a minor part of the plot, I won't go into details but the users in this film are all successful people who claim to have used it in their earlier lives. This seems to be an increasing trend to me in film of characters who are relatively successful admitting to smoking up in their lives. Now i know these aren't real people but they certainly do convey a message to the public that "Hey, bud doesn't turn you into Cheech and Chong". I also don't want this to turn into a "Legality" thread but my question is:
Do you believe Marijuana is becoming more socially acceptable?
As it is I do and the more films like this that subtly convey this message is a step towards legality.

In my neighbourhood it's gone from almost no one doing it to almost everyone doing it over a period of about 10 years.

Yup, I think it is. Around here having or bringing weed to a party is like bringing beer. I have even been around whole families that sit outside their house and smoke a joint together. Mom, dad, friends and non-minor kids...

Smoking weed is like drinking alcohol or smoking. To most people in my town, yeah its illegal but its tolerated, even the people who dont smoke, like my parents, have friends that smoke and they know plenty of people who smoke.

Im really stoned right now, and what i just typed sounded great in my head.

I think in north America they have grown to accept it ..

But in other countries such as the uk people still hate on it .

We just have to wait till the older generation dies :-) mwhahahaha

I really believe it depends on where you are. In the shit-fuck little town I live in, there is no tolerance for it. If you smoke weed, you are equated with the devil, as weak, as an addict/criminal. I can honestly never remember a time when it wasn't sketchy as fuck to try and find people who were cool or at least tolerant of we smokers.

lmao at that last line. but ya in my town its about the same way. accepted by some, tolerated by many, hated by the rest. i think most people have seen/heard/know enough people who have/do smoke that its become less taboo. but people who mindlessly hate all illegal drugs, judge those who use them as complete idiots who are untrustworthy and complete losers, are not lacking in number. most places still drug test, and will not hire you or will fire you if you test positive for thc. also people calling the cops on kids blazing it up is not uncommon around here. clubs are still being shut down and legal grow houses raided.

so still a far cry from being socially acceptable, but it is definitely becoming less taboo as our society becomes less ignorant on the matter.

I sold ice-cream sandwiches at a fair in Fairfax California for 10 hours today. I saw at least one person smoking a joint openly and the area I was in wreaked of weed from noon to 6. There were a lot of kids and families around. I saw about 8 cops there, none of them seemed to care. I'd say its socially acceptable here.

yup, I'd say that it is and I'm on the East Coast near some major east coast cities and even if people don't smoke they know someone who does or have friends or family members that do or once did blaze.

Even when I lived in a small town in a rural area it was still very accepted there even if it was illegal.

I definitely think its more widespread than most people thing. A lot of professionals won't admit to using marijuana.

Cannabis is pretty much accepted in my area. I know plenty of adults who smoke. However, nobody respects an older person going around flaunting the use. I tell people that I used to smoke, but do not admit to currently smoking on occasion (right now those occasions are frequent).

Anyways my parents used to smoke. They are now admitting that they would like to try it again when they get older (they are very liberal though). Wouldn't surprise me if they actually end up doing it. One of them still smokes maybe once or twice a year.

It probably depends on how rural you're talking. I am sure that in Georgia as well as SC and NC rural areas you can find people who smoke. From what I understand police officers are more concerned with arrogant people driving like effin maniacs out on the road, though currently I am not too fond of the establishment considering the current war on drugs. I actually know a police officer who had a nervous breakdown from having to arrest people, I mean shit its every man for him effin self when it comes to this stuff until they politicians will finally be able to come more pro drugs. I have heard conservative talk all over the place now starting to want to legalize drugs...I believe the Republicans will need something like this in order to gain votes. I believe that the people who already vote Republican are usually fanatic enough about it to vote Republican anyway. An agenda for legalizing drugs coming from a conservative politician would actually probably gain a lot more voters than people realize, but it'll take a little while longer I think.

And I do mean someone other than Ron Paul, though obviously Ron Paul will never be forgotten and will be in a lot of hearts for his will to be an independent politician.

i live in a rural shit hole. i know plenty of people who smoke and its not hard to get decent weed but the vast majority dont approve. the police are hard on it around here too. i wil say its getting better tho.
