Apparently phenazepam can be smoked...
There definitely needs to be balanced discussion on benzodiazepines. They are very powerful and addicting drugs, and the withdrawal is hell. I think the best approach is to talk about them in a truthful way and emphasize where caution is most needed. For example, the benzos with shorter half-lifes are by far more addicting than the ones with shorter half-lifes. Because of this, the benzos with longer half-lifes should be recommended first. There are also certain benzos that are more toxic to the body (temazepam is by far #1 in this respect), and so caution should certainly be exercised with these. Most important of all is that benzos are not a benign treatment and addiction to them is not to be taken lightly. Significant cognitive impairment is a direct result of benzodiazepine treatment and benzodiazepine withdrawal.
Anyone interested in benzos needs to heed the warnings.
