So who likes benzos? El Benzo Threado Spectacularrrr 2nd Edition

i also thought the article was well written and concise (for those with a short attention span, like me)

the whole article sums up my experiences and i agree with the research. (i know my specific article was based on morphine and nicotine, i am dependent on morphine) and it's basically what djsim has put across from his Kalivas reference.

it was a really interesting read coming across it again, im glad i did, it saved me digging up what i was looking for anyway.

glad you enjoyed it

So environmental or learned tolerance is your body preparing itself for a dose. Is residual tolerance when you still have some of the chemicals in your system when you redose? Or is it the stuff that was said before about your body creating more GABA receptors?

yes, in a nutshell. refer to the article i posted above:)

yes

what stuff? you'll have to be more specific

I've taken this quote from another thread about benzo/alcohol w/d in OD;

Quote:
GABA is a receptor that controls various systems or traits in our body. When tolerance to a benzo grows, your body is creating more receptor sites. Our bodies wern't designed to have drugs introduces into our body, thus fighting back by creating more receptors. When you have a certain amount of GABA receptors in the brain, and body is refused the drug, basically your body can't possibly naturally produce enough GABA agonism

My question was. What kind of tolerance is this quote referring to?

Residual or Environmental?

I havent really done any addiction studies before and it interests me as to how these are categorised.

this environmental tolerance stuff has really been ticking over in my head lately. i'm moving into my friends unit this coming sunday for a while so i'm going to vantage for a little while when i first move in :D

i'll have to keep a bit of a self journal of my progress over a couple of months so i can reflect on the changes.

i've also been trying to think of a safe way for my friend to dose me unknowingly as well BollWeevil so if you're interested to hear PM me.

i think it's just talking about tolerance as a whole, could you link me to the thread? i can't remember reading that anywhere at the moment. i don't usually pop into alcohol wd questions.

It was something puckboy quoted earlier in this thread.

Sorry mate, Im just being lazy. I will do some more reading about it when Ive got some spare time.

I have heard about environmental tolerance before with regard to opiate injection. It sounds like a good argument for safe injecting rooms as a way to prevent overdose. Provided that you regularly use the room...

^that's a good point about the IDU rooms, about them being developing environmental tolerance. they do have staff on hand as well for OD cases; nalaxone etc. i'm not sure on the statistics of lethal OD's which have occured in the Sydney room but it wouldn't be hard to track down i would imagine

so it's time i get off the benzo wagon again before i become dependent on them. along with my opiate addiction it's going to be a little rough for a bit. i'll take it as it comes day by day, but i don't think it's going to be too rough. it's mainly my opiate problem that's causing me pain.

i'm going to seek out a new therapist and start getting physio more regular to see if that improves the mobility of my body, get a good realligning and hope it helps with reducing pain at night which inhibits sleep.

Best of luck with that LW, I'm currently doing the same on the benzo side of things. Just dropped down to 5mg diazepam each night, just need to keep my alcohol intake at bay. Hopefully will be off the benzos fully again in a couple of weeks.

Lol yeah, just noticed that after I'd posted in here.

It's going smoothly so far, won't be anything like the last time as I've only been on them daily for ~3 months or so this time - so I'm confident it should be fine. Been drinking every night since I started dropping from 20mg though which is my only concern, but going by past experiences the less drugs I'm taking/are in my system the easier it is to not go for the booze all the time - especially benzos.

good to hear :) just keep and eye on the bottle though, don't let it creep up on you.

it's good you're going in with confidence as well. if i go in half hearted thinking i'm going to relapse within a few days then inevitably i'll make it happen

luckily i won't be going through anything physical, it'll just be PAWS to deal with but i'm feeling pretty confident in myself too. it's the opiates i crave more. and then when i've ran out or i'm sleepless for 3 nights in a row is when i reach for the benzo's. either i've got a heap or i've got none because i've used them with the opiates or just plain abused them:\

i've only tried benzo's twice (both times valium)
which i found to be pretty weak
i had the 5mg ones (my girlfriend used to have a script)

she still has a fair few left
could probably get them off her, but i dont feel the need
however, i like the idea of sleeping after a benderr
so i may invest (y)
haha

anyone know much on getting scripts for benzo's?
im currently seeking a psychiatrist about medication treatment for adhd
so i guess benzo's could be a help if i am successful
:)

How much did you take? If you only took 5mg then yes it would seem "weak". Sweet spot for someone with no tolerence, recreational dose, would be 15 or 20mg.

[Disclaimer : do not drink alcohol when taking benzos. All sort of troubles there. Read up, know what you're taking and be safe :) ]

Short answer is no. No one here is gonna help you doctor shop which is essentially what you're asking. In addition, it is very doubtful you will prescribed a benzo for a hyperactivity disorder.

i took 3 of the 5mg ones
i chewed em actually, they kinda just melted in my mouth
it was really weird...haha
(it also didnt make me feel tired) not sure what that means...
:\

not actually refering to adhd directly;
but as we all know adhd is ultimately medicated with stimulants
stimulants keeping me up all night could be an issue, so is this still a no go?

im not asking to doctor shop, i was just curious
i dont plan to "scam" my doctor, it would be for legitimate purposes, not recreational ones
im an upper kinda person anywayy
benzo's are not my cup of tea
(:

where im at, very very few ppl are into their benzo's... only kno of one person who had a slight binge on a few valium years ago,, coupled with a few cartons of coopers for good times,,,

aside from when oxazepam was availiable before the PBS all went on to computers...

but now that this supply of xaxanx has been made availiable,,, i think it would definatly help in trying to curb the amount of weed that is smoked (with the view to tryin to cut down weed consumption considerably, as you can only go smoke 'that' much before it starts to affect you)...

was a bit wary of xanax to begin with,, have seen a freind sleep on my couch for ten days strait (no joke) and only get up to take a piss and make a few pieces of toast....(not sure how many he had with him)) but can now see how it is sooo popular in places like america... :) good times good times... :D

as in very freely availiable (for anyone that knew where this particular 'place' was, be a good 7 -8 years since he closed down tho, one of those bands like grinspoon or sumthing, cant remember, even wrote a song about him),,,, walk in, get a script, just dont go to the nearest chemist styles
