Going to a large call centre next week to see how things work there:

Please outline your questions and i'll hopefully answer them or find people who can.

Ask any question..

even things like how the hell people who can't speak english get jobs..

Can you ask them to stop calling my house every day? :|

Seriously though, i'd like to know how much they're getting paid. I don't have an issue with the people working there, my concern is that they're being exploited... well, i'm pretty sure that they are, but i'd just be interested to hear your take on the conditions that they work in, and how much they're actually getting paid.

Can you tell them that no matter how many times they call, it won't change the fact that I already have a mobile phone and don't need another one?

I'd also be interested to hear the answer to Samadhi's question.

I personally doubt their wages would rival ours or there would be no point relocating all the call centres to India.

Ask them why they always call at the most inconvenient times and why I should have to give some stranger my 8 digit customer number and 3 digit access code to some stranger who could be ANYONE as they dont have to prove who THEY are.:X :X

If I ring the bank, at least I know Im actually talking TO the bank. If they call- could be anyone, so I just hang up usually, then call the bank back (and get someone who actually speaks english understandalby.)

With regards to their pay, you have to take in account their cost of living. Some friends worked in India earlier this year and they made a big mention how cheap it is to live there. Prescription glasses in Oz, $200-$400, $25 in India. Name brand designer shoes that were $550 here, $55 in India. I guess it roughly is about a 10th of the cost of living in India than it is in Australia? Guess that means workers can be paid a 10th of standard wages in Australia before they can be deemed as being exploited.

can you find out what sort of KPI's they have and what are the consequence of not meeting them?

Do they have a limited talk time etc?

Are these telecommunication call centre workers?

Can you ask them what they think of Australians (rude, racist etc?).

Can you find out what sort of monitoring goes on? Are they truly recording all their calls, do their supervisors tightly monitor phone calls etc?

Lastly what are they getting paid and how is it negotiated? If you could detail something like | CSR=, Supervisor/senior=
Teamleader= .....

thanks

also ask them how they feel about receiving phone calls during breakfast, lunch, dinner and times when you'd usually want to be in bed (saturday and sunday morning) also ask them why they are employed in an industry that thrives from stealing jobs from other people because they are more than happy to oblige and be paid peanuts for their services (which I've found to be poor at all times anyway)

ask them if they actually ever get sales from their annoying phone calls, ask them if they can give you their home phone number because I'd like to call them at 7am on saturday morning just to see what type of long distance phone call offers I can help them save money on.

hahahahahah you're hilarious.

I'd like to know how their rates of pay compare with other jobs in their country... so basically a variation on what everyone else is asking.

If I was you I'd love to have the chance to apologise for all the rude fucks in Australia who act like they're better than them. But I don't know how you'd really bring that up. ;)

I'd like to know whether they know the standard of training in Australia.

I bet you their training shits all over ours.

please see if there is a girl called Ganesh there, she rang me once and i have fallen in love with her.

^why don't you ask them?

did you even read the original thread post? it said, clearly, what questions we want friskk to ask them for us

They are searched on entry and exit and are constantly watched physically and via surveillance technology, so theres little privacy in the workplace at all..

is that why in recent times they've stolen hundreds of thousands of personal information including credit card numbers, social security details, savings account numbers, passwords and lots of other valuable information and sold them to thousands of people? if the security was so tight, they didn't cold call millions of people at completely inappropriate times and I could understand half of the tech support when I call for help, then I would be all for it. But the idea that my personal information is sitting somewhere in an unsecured location in India, with a 50/50 chance of my details being accessed by some employee and having them sold off to fraudsters, somehow I totally hate the idea of having them know even my name and phone number.

who is they? every call centre worker in india?

where are you getting this information? i'd venture to say it certainly wouldn't apply to the majority of call-centres, and that malpractices at the ones (if any) it DOES apply to, are certainly not confined to businesses in india. Internet sites do it every day.

Can you provide any links to verify these assertions, and no i don't want a link to a google search page that you have typed "india call-centres stolen information" on - YOU make the claims, YOU provide the sources.

in regards to indian employees "stealing" jobs from australian or other workers - i really cannot understand how it is possibly their fault (ie. the word steal implies deliberate intent, implying that they are knowingly fucking other people over). As pete_gasparino pointed out, the majority of india lives below the poverty line, so are you saying you begrudge these workers for accepting jobs which would be merely offered to someone else in india, if they weren't to take them. If it's anyone's "fault" it is the parent companies/employers of the people - NOT the employees who are doing just as you or i would and looking out for themselves by gaining employment offered in their country.

If work was outsourced to australia over the country of origin of the company in question, i'd be extremely interested to see whether you would refuse work from them on ethical grounds.

Ok!

What an interesting experience this has been.

Talk about the US in the middle of the east! These guys were all dressed in name brand clothes and it was like the US - just filled with Indian people.

Didn't manage to ask ALL your questions but I will proceed as I begin to grow more comfortable with all these people.

Today, I went to a call centre that received inbound calls from the UK, Aus, US. The call centre dealt with massive organisations so there facilities were great.

Managed to get the following questions:

1. 7000 - 10000 Rupees is around the starting salary.
2. Organisations from my understanding dictate the time the call centre will call/
3. These guys spoke fairly well. I did hear some weird ass voices but majority of people spoke clearly and I could understand them.

I am in the process of trying to identify any qualification or entrance test needed to enter a call centre.

One thing I have noticed is that although these people are paid relatively nothing compared to us - they are in fact earning quite a bit here.

The setup was impressive to say the least. Boy I actually never realised how much money was setup to put these things in to place.

These guys have better conditions that call centres in Aus. Seriously.

In terms of theft, this call centre had a lot of security. Cameras, swipe cards, no cd roms. They are now in the process of removing all PEN, PAPER, USB - anything that can be used to copy data from their machine.

In terms of taking people's jobs - Well, I wont go there as you all know my stance on this.

More to come!!

10,000.00 INR India Rupees = 297.088 AUD

Is that weekly or monthly?

I would like to know about their KPI's. I have heard that many of these call centre's (in Indian/south east asia) burn through their workers with high preasure KPI's.

Do they have a 3 strikes rule and your out rule or is it you stuff up and your gone?

What do they think of Australians?

I'm going to Bangalore next week (hopefully) and will check this place out.. It's the central hub for call centres..

In terms of people stealing information, this happens everywhere you go. Not only India. In Australia, we have a high level of theft of information we just don't publicise it. Anyway, i'll keep asking the questions - as I'm interested in providing the 'other' sides story. :)
