So I was on the way home yestarday and was listening to this Lady Gaga song and totally thought she was talking about X.. I listened to it a few more times and it is now my favorite song by her. What do you guys think. Ill go out on a limb and say i fing love that chick. Shes got a few more number one singles on her second album that havent been release to the radio yet. I was reading about her she writes all her own music, melodies, ect. She said her third album will be epic and a anthum that our generation will live by. Holly shit that was some pretty strong words. I can wait to see her in Vegas.

You sound like my girlfriend (no seriously). I, personally, despise her and think she is everything that is wrong with America, and the world.

This thread would probably be more appropriate for the Non-Electronic Music Discussion forum, or possibly EMD, but I think that's more for "true" electronica.

Anyway, to get off forum topic a bit by getting on thread topic, I'm a little curious about specifically why you despise her, peroxadic. :) I think she's kind of a strange phenomena myself -- doesn't really know why she's famous, but has glorious aspirations of being some kind of Andy Warhol figure who paradoxically despises her own work. I find it a bit fascinating, but that's just me. :D

lady gaga burns my biscuits. the epitome of the horrible wannabe techno/rap music that the kids are bangin these days

Well, I don't despise her all that much. I just have no respect for her as a musician. I exaggerate and say I hate her just to irk my girlfriend, and her friends who also like her haha.

I doubt she writes her own music or lyrics, and if she did, she has the "editors" and "assistants" that "improve" (fancy word for re-write) the music and lyrics. She is only famous because she feeds off of the shameless pop-fad culture of electornica-fused pop music, with those ridiculous outfits, hairstyles, etc. that are layered upon her by her publicists. Gimmicky, to say the least.

I do see what you mean by comparing her to an Andy Warhol figure, but then again, the credit, if any, shouldn't be given to her because she is just a mold of one of the most commercialized sectors of the music industry: POP.

"the epitome of the horrible wannabe techno/rap music that the kids are bangin these days"

Agreed.

I suppose her only saving grace to me is that she willfully admits to writing "soulless electronic pop": http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2009/jul/02/lady-gaga

Once you realize that even the creator of the music has no wild aspirations of her genius, I think it becomes easier to appreciate it for what it is ("catchy, but fucking shit" as ColtDan put it :)), and perhaps even wring some meaning out of it. Art to me is a dialogue between the creator and the audience, so it's hard to say that something is worthless even if the creator deems it so.

Slightly off topic, but say you could choose between two superpowers: 1) the ability to judge whether a piece of music is objectively "good" or "bad", or 2) the ability to enjoy any kind of music. Which would you choose?

RGB, you are one neat individual.

That is a hard choice- however, seeings how I don't personally believe that music is definitively good or bad (I think out appreciation for it is an unexplainable natural phenomenon) I would choose superpower 2. Especially seeings how I am one PICKY ass listener! It's so hard to find things that I really like.

I agree, and I'd also go with option 2 -- beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right? :)

Speaking of the OP's song, I don't see anything in the lyrics that would automatically make me think of Ecstasy, but she has admitted to using it:

“...A little MDMA [Ecstasy] once in a while never killed anybody, but I really don’t do drugs. I don’t touch cocaine any more. I don’t smoke. Well, maybe a single cigarette – with whisky – while I’m working, because it just frees my mind a little bit. But I care about my voice. The thrill of my voice being healthy on stage is really special. I take care of myself,” Gaga explains.

Not sure about the lupus part later in the article, though. I mean, does anyone ever actually have lupus, or is it just a meme? 8)

Love this song. This is totally my best friend's and my "e song". Love it, love it. We were just kinda sitting around, rolling of course, had her mp3 player blasting songs at random, then this one came up. We kinda looked at each other, smiled, listened and were like, "Damn, this is it." Have a whole bunch of kandi with quotes from the lyrics. :D

Yeah her music was not that good, but after hearing some tracks I got hooked.
About her, I kinda like that she motivates her fans and assure them to do anything they want. Sweet. Oh and plus, I really like the song "captivated" of her from somewhat 2006 before "gaga".

About the song she said once it was about alcohol. Hm, for me it was one of the less good songs.

But anything about having fun, feeling happy could be related to e I assume.

Everyone seems to have a strong opinion on her- she's a much better vocalist and has a lot more writing and musicianship skill than a lot of pop artists, though.

She recently got slammed for responding to a question about drug use in an interview- she admitted to using MDMA on occasion and said "a little MDMA never killed anyone"...so of course, their was an angry response that she was "supporting a deadly rave drug"- even though alcohol kills more people, statistically.

infestedpasta- a transvestite is a man that enjoys wearing womens underwear for sexual pleasure. Were you calling her a "transexual"? LOL.
