^Absolutely not. Nothing you can do can stop or hinder dogs sense of smell. They can smell through foot-thick plate steel for christ sake. As Juvenile said, it all comes down to statistical chance of being caught.
^ I can see how the expense could be a deterrent for people considering using then. The idea does seem to work better overseas then it did here, from what I've heard in this thread.
I better idea, in my opinion, would be for people caught by the police with contraband to just have it confiscated rather then charges being filed. I don't think large amounts obviously meant to be sold on the premises should be treated the same way though. Mainly because a lot of the substances to be sold at festivals tend to be misrepresented, inferior in many cases and who knows what the substance actually is and with legitimate onsite testing out of the question this could be dangerous. People should prepare for the event beforehand and ensure they have decent material.
Do you think at an underground, word by mouth, event out in the bush they might be able to get away with the stupidly illegal testing? Because it was definitely a great HR initiative.
I've never been to one of these underground or bush doof events befpre so I don't know if any law enforcement authorities tend to turn up at some point,
kroniic said:The underground doofs and raves my mates have been to, usually the location is found out an hour before the event. LEO have been known to turn up and shut the place down, but have never searched or arrested anyone on drug charges. I think it is because LEO generally need authority/ warrant to use the sniffer dogs, so it would be grounds for an illegal search.
I have never seen sniffer dogs at state borders. Most of the state borders I've crossed though were barely recognizable as changing states.
And before anyone asks, no we aren't going to give you tips on smuggling.
ETA:
I've never been to one unfortunately. Would love to go one day though. :D
does anyone know if there are sniffer dogs at the state borders?
yeah, fruit/vege quarantine dogs are trained for different things than drug dogs.
there are also explosives-sniffing dogs and ones that are trained to track people and sniff out corpses.
i wonder if they use the other trained dogs as 'dummy' drug dogs at events? the sight of a copper with any sort of dog is enough to give most of us here the jitters.
except the cops here, i guess?
um...yeah, that's why there is an "and" between each descriptionThey are Cadaver dogs, different to explosives dogs.
^ Fucking hell that's dodgy. Makes me want to go to a festival and set up a video recorder that the people caught can use later in caught as evidence showing the police had no reasonable grounds for a search.
