Sleeping aid for empathogens

I highly recommend against using diphenihydramine in high doses. Stick to 25mg.
100mg of benedryl 48 hours after my first 'mini-binge' resulted in a rather extreme reaction that I suspect was Serotonin Syndrome.
It could have killed me.
I was a moderate user with less than 30 tabs under my belt.
Now I'm 8 months into recovery and still not finished.

High doses of DPH inhibits the uptake of serotonin.
Your brain needs to metabolize and remove the excess serotonin present.
Interfering with this process could be a big mistake.

All cases of Serotonin Syndrome outside of MDMA are the result of the interaction between TWO medications. Don't tempt fate, its not worth it.

Low dose DPH should not affect serotonin and would likely help you sleep.
But not re-dosing on MDMA and spacing your rolls properly should offer the protection you really need.

I agree that melatonin will do nothing the first night.
Only regular use has results.

Taking a benzo should be the most safe AND effective, but heed Chitown's warning - regular use can turn into a nightmare.

I believe DPH only has weak SSRI effects, so I doubt that what you experienced was Serotonin Syndrome unless you consumed a significant amount of another more powerful serotonergic drug. I think that Anticholinergic Syndrome is much more likely. Which is essentially just an overdose of an Anticholingergic drug (like DPH). I'm sure that taking a ton of MDMA and then taking a large (I.E. recreational, not therapeutic) dose of DPH WOULD be a bad idea, and has potential to increase risk of serotonin syndrome, but I'd be more worried about why the hell you'd do that in the first place. 50mg for sleep after coming down shouldn't be a problem, in fact if MIGHT be beneficial (maybe, don't quote me on that). People have been known to take more powerful SSRIs like fluoxetine post-roll in order to reduce the risk of oxidative stress.

Well for me most sleep meds have little effect on me (rolling or not) unless I take a lot and they have to be prescription. OTC meds don't make me even drowsy, I take 4 or 6 Benadryl a night just for some itching I get, and it does nothing to make me tired. BUT I'm weird. I now have a benzo prescription, but I also use GHB or 1,4BDO when I am coming down (it's a great feeling and it calms you way down.) Before I had that tho, I would just stay awake... :( Hopefully an OTC med can work on you, but I've tried melatonin, valerian, and others, and felt nothing from those.

Since everyone is talking about DPH...

Has anyone else tried the shit to get high, then weeks later taken it to help fall asleep and it works different?

I tried like 200mgs of the stuff (dont try it, just makes you feel weird, uncomfortable and irrational) and got the whole restless legs thing, along with being so tired I couldnt fall asleep. Now I take the recommended amount (50mg) and I get a very similar feeling, but less.

Honestly DPH is a retarded drug all around. Even before that started happening it always seemed to effect me oddly...

I have a too high benzo tolerance for benzos to put me to sleep. The only medicine that really puts me to sleep is quetiapine (Seroquel), but that's pretty hardcore. Prepare to feel like a walking dead the next day and just generally be extremely tired and "out of it". If you get sleep with benzos, why not, but the quality of the sleep will not be good. You'll have problems getting REM sleep with benzos. If you want to go lightly, melatonin and why not some valerian root will be beneficial.

I have to disagree that melatonin only shows effects when used regularly. I used quetiapine for sleep for 3 years and when I stopped it was impossible to sleep. Then I tried melatonin and slept good the first night I took it.

I've never tried drugs that mainly act on GABA receptors (except benzos) like GHB or Lyrica for sleep, but they could help. Just be very careful with the dose especially with GHB.

Btw you don't have to worry about benzo addiction if using them occasionally for sleep. No worries there.
