Hi there.

As many others, i have trouble sleeping after a night with empathogens so I've been looking for some "over-the-counter" sleeping aid because I dont have acces to benzos.

So far, I've looked on:
Melatonin and Promethazin

Does anyone have experience with these do? And are they strong enough to fall asleep after a night with empathogens?

Thx in advance.

Please move topic if it doesn't suit the right forum. I didn't know if I should put it in "other drugs" or "ecstasy discussion"

IME, Melatonin is fantastic for getting you into a rhythm but doesn't really work too well for getting you to konk out right away.

As kroniic said, you could just try some OTC anti-histamines. Diphenhydramine specifically.

Please be careful if you have also been drinking before starting on OTC sleep aids- some of them can make you feel pretty sick.

Alright, I'm gonna try promethazin. They come in 25mg tablets, what dose would you recommend? I weight 200lbs, very strong build.

go by what the box says for dosage. dont take to much or you will be groggy the next day. i take dramamine, 50mg, and it works great. i sleep from about 10 to 7 but once i wake up, im up. i also used meatonin a few times, which put me to sleepp but i woke up at like three am and couldnt go back to sleep for a bit.

Don't discount the herbal route either. Valerian root will help knock you out and Kava Kava is a good muscle and mind relaxer (depending on the variety). They come in dried, tincture, and capsule form I believe. Google dat shit.
Oh, and smoke weed.

I actually got some benadryl - but i use those for grass allergy?

The active chemical diphenhydramine is also sold as an OTC sleep aid. I think its usually 50mg whereas Benadryl is 25mg.
I'd recommend diphenhydramine or doxylamine over dimenhydrinate (Dramamine) as dimenhydrinate is actually just diphenhydramine bonded with theophylline which is a stimulant in the same class as caffeine.

I've used diphenhydromine (in Sleep-Eze sleeping pills). Worked like a charm for a while. I'd use them once or twice a week. I took a break completely off of them for a couple weeks. Tried one the other night ... didn't work ... tried a second ... still didn't work. I'm not sure what's going on but it isn't working anymore. It DID work for a while though ... so I'm not sure if I recommend it or not!

Melatonin is something that has been recommended to me :p

Benzos seem to work best, although the potential for addiction is high and once taken benzos on a MDMA comedown you probably won't want anything else at least in my experience. Melatonin doesn't work very well as a lot of people it takes up to a month of regular use to get the right sleep pattern down.

Melatonin works better to get you into a rhythm not putting you to sleep right away like benzos or antihistamines do.

Yea, exactly. I'm in the process of trying to get in that rhythm. It's my third day taking 10 mgs a day (two 5 mg tablets).

I highly recommend against using diphenihydramine in high doses. Stick to 25mg.
100mg of benedryl 48 hours after my first 'mini-binge' resulted in a rather extreme reaction that I suspect was Serotonin Syndrome.
It could have killed me.
I was a moderate user with less than 30 tabs under my belt.
Now I'm 8 months into recovery and still not finished.

High doses of DPH inhibits the uptake of serotonin.
Your brain needs to metabolize and remove the excess serotonin present.
Interfering with this process could be a big mistake.

All cases of Serotonin Syndrome outside of MDMA are the result of the interaction between TWO medications. Don't tempt fate, its not worth it.

Low dose DPH should not affect serotonin and would likely help you sleep.
But not re-dosing on MDMA and spacing your rolls properly should offer the protection you really need.

I agree that melatonin will do nothing the first night.
Only regular use has results.

Taking a benzo should be the most safe AND effective, but heed Chitown's warning - regular use can turn into a nightmare.

^The only bad down side to high doses of DPH is the wicked hangover you can get.

Try taking it a couple hours before bed. I found that it to be the most effective that way.

Yea I have taken them the past two nights sublingually. I can't honestly say its doing anything but its only about 3 and I am very tired. I usually don't get to bed until 5 am+.

I would not recommend taking benzos to anyone after the experience I had with them. Though it took about 6.5 years of almost constant use to see anything life threatening, I did some stupid stuff along the way.

Some people love benzos, some people hate benzos, and some people just don't get what the big deal is. The reason I caution against it is because you just never know which category you fall into. I've seen it ruin the lives of people that love it, mine included. Though I am completely turned off to the idea of taking benzos at the moment, I still think about them regularly and honestly don't think I will ever be able to shake the preoccupation with them. Needless to say they have done much more harm than good for me.

^The dangerous thing about benzos is that the withdrawls can cause seizures. But if you can use them responsibly and not get hooked (obviously easier said than done for some people) they can be wonderful.

Definitely. I had what the doctor described as "mini seizures" which were pretty much like violent jerks in mostly my legs. My resting heart rate though was 140 bpm and the doctor said I almost had a heart attack overnight, among other things. I am really surprised I didn't full out seize.
