Sleep paralysis ?!?!?! - MEGA MERGED

Wow this thread explains a lot. I've suffered from SP since i was about 6 and it happens frequently, though i always shrugged it off as just being part of a nightmare. Its truly the most intense and frightening thing i have dealt with. It appears to usually be figures composed of shadows jumping in and out of my chest, whirling around my room and tearing me apart. Its always accompanied by an electrifying sensations and a heavy bodyload, very demonic feeling indeed...strange.

^^ It's cool to know what it is, huh! I remember when I found out what sleep paralysis was and it explained SO MUCH of what I had been experiencing. It was quite comforting :)

I love sleep paralysis. Used to believe in astral projection and OBEs, so it's an interesting topic for me. Would love to do it more and experience it more even if it is a scary experience for some. It's a learning experience nevertheless. The fear means you're alive.

smoke a blunt before bed, no dreams(maybe unles yyour on opiates cuz they give you greaat dreams), and youll sleep till your alarm goes off.
One time i took some shit idont remember what but i had sleep paralysis but i like woke up and thought someone was in my room, COULD NOT MOVE A MUSCLE!!! i sware i thought i saw some dark robed figure go from one side of room to other and i was thinking damn i need to get my .22 but couldnt move then REALISED that it was in fact SP. After a few mins of reasoning the paranoia went away and i could move, but the struggle left me with pulled muscles...
Didnt get back to sleep ha!!
And i actually dreamed that all this happened, so weather it did or not idk but i usually dream in 3rd person is why

had some weird fucking sleep paralisis/lucid dream thing happen earlier when i had a snap through the day, second time its happened now, woke up but couldnt physically move, parazlied eyes were half shut, then i started full blown dreaming that i woke up and was moving my arms around, looked at my wall, got out of bed and walked out of my room, then realized i was dreaming and snapped back into the half asleep paralized thing. then full blown drempt i got out of bed. this happened about 3 times, then i looked at myself in the mirror in my weird fucked up "dream" and my glasses turned circular and went bright red and looked like they were on fire, everything went red and i heard this arghhhhhhhh screaming noise. then bang i woke up, thought i was still dreaming. felt surreal for about 20 minutes after that, cant remember much either, very fucked up. seems induced after weekends of alcohol and mdma or mephedrone

I've suffered from SP since as long as I can remember. I remember a couple of times during my sleep I rolled over so my face was in the pillow and I (partially) woke up paralyzed. I thought I was going to suffocate because I wasn't getting enough air breathing through the pillow. Eventually I would snap out of it terrified. Nowadays I make sure I don't roll completely over. I don't have it as much as I did when I was a kid but it still happens every once in awhile. And whenever it does happen I always wake up terrified.

I find it weird that many people here are scared of sleep paralysis and yet can handle drug-induced altered states just fine. I'm the opposite--I can't handle stimulants, psychedelics, or dissociatives without getting panic attacks, but I've had sleep paralysis (and accompanying lucid dreams) all my life and I really enjoy it.

During sleep paralysis, I find the two things I can control are my breathing and my eyes. If I ever get too frightened, I can squeeze my eyes or breathe deeply and snap myself out of it. Once I know this, I can close my eyes and turn the fractals I see on my eyelids into landscapes from which I can begin my lucid dreams.

I've also managed to get an out-of-body experience quite recently during sleep paralysis, after years of practicing for it--I meditate and enter the ego death state which would give me a panic attack in any other state and forget about my body, and during this time the rushing noises I hear in sleep paralysis get more intense until my entire body is vibrating. When it gets unbearably intense, it suddenly stops, and I feel as if I am "shaken from my body" and find myself looking at the world in technicolor. From here I can leave my body by floating or rolling out or sinking below it.

Because of these things, and because I can easily snap out of it, I really look forward to sleep paralysis each night. I especially look forward to sleeping after opiate use, because I find I can stay in this state more easily and for longer amounts of time.

Sleep paralysis (Hag Phenomenon)

I had the displeasure of experiencing this two nights in a row, down to every single description of SP I've ever read. The person I trust on me trying to hurt me, the paranormal entity trying to take me away, etc etc.

Anyone else deal with this?

I use to experience it quite frequently.. it seemed more common when i went to sleep stressed, caffeinated, sleep deprived or coming down. I'm not suggesting it's caused by any of those but it was more common for me during those states. These days it doesn't occur that often, and when it does im familiar with the experience and can usually just ignore it and force myself back to sleep. But the first couple of times were absolutely terrifying; i didn't sleep for hours after i woke-up. Waking up to music playing and words been sung backwards in a demonic voice when my room was dead silent and not been able to move really had me on edge..

I'm now able to sleep, not afraid to sleep at least. Still have these weird dreams but they've always been there, I've always had the most uncomfortable dreams. I am going to start logging the SP though. It is seriously terrifying.

it's been many years since my last one. i used to have it quite frequently.

i kinda miss it a bit, tbh.

Miss it? I don't know how anyone could miss the image of someone they trust sitting on their chest trying to kill them, and not being able to move or talk. But you can take my experiences, if you really miss them that badly.

I enjoyed it when it happened to me. I was lying outside on a sofa just falling asleep when it happened. I was super aware of everything around me birds buzzing/leaves blowing. Was completely frozen though, couldn't talk or move. I liked it, even though for a moment i thought i was having a seizure.

Im pretty sure it is indeed from stress lack of rest or sleep. Too much partying brought it out for me.

I also don't understand how anybody could "enjoy" sleep paralysis.

It is terrifying.

ughh i have this alot and i think i remember watching something on tv about this..it may be triggered by a some minor "seizure like" activity in the brain somewhere..this could be totally inaccurate but i do remember on the show they were inducing night terrors/paralysis with electrical stimulus to a certain part of the brain.

^yeah, i also recall having those micro-seizure like sensations.

it IS terrifying, but i seldom have bad dreams. i enjoy my dreams, all of them. scary ones are exhilerating. as can sleep paralysis be.

Sleep Paralysis?

So last night around 12:30 am I get in my bed to go to sleep. I usually take melatonin before sleep, but I didn't think that I needed it that night, and as I am falling asleep I fall into the most strange place. I just spent a little while looking up sleep paralysis after mentioning my symptoms to a friend, and her telling me to look into it. Pretty much, as I was falling asleep, I started to dream but remained WIDE awake. Still, I could not fall asleep but could not get out of this "waking dream". I think that it actually may have been the most vivid and surreal dream I have ever had. Im not really going to go into the contents of the dream here as they would probably be pretty boring to read, but this lasted 4 and 1/2 hours!!! When I finally "came out" of the dream, I turned over to my phone to look at what time it was and it was 5 a.m.

Has anybody here ever experienced sleep paralysis before? On wikipedia it sais that it usually only lasts seconds to minutes, but this lasted 4 1/2 hr. I do have HPPD, and have had a waking nightmare once, but never anything like this, and I know it wasn't anything I took because I haven't done anything but smoke some weed for 3 weeks now. I have no addictions if that matters.

I've experienced sleep paralysis before...and I'd say for me, wiki is right..
it only lasted a couple minutes at the most.
It's basically just waking up..and not being able to move.
It's pretty terrifying, actually. I'd start to panic..and feel like I couldn't breathe.
It hasn't happened to me since I stopped smoking weed.

It sounds more like a dream you had..but I can't be sure, of course.
We're all so different.:)

Thanks for the reply. The dream was weird, but my body never fell asleep. It was terrifying. I actually just tried to take a 2 hr nap ("woke up" about 20 minutes ago) and the exact same thing happened as last night. I layed there for a while, just unable to sleep, then bam, I can't move, fall asleep, or stop or control my dream. I did get out of it feeling a bit more rested, but I'm feeling like my body can't fall fully asleep. I just get trapped in a dream world while staying fully awake.

I get sleep paralysis and when you get it you def know, because your body becomes paralysed. When it happens to me it feel like hours but its really only a max of five minutes.

I Try to drift to sleep but i try to move and realize im paralyzed and cant move but i start to dream with my eyes open and i can only control my breathing. Terrible frightening feeling " i feel like i am about to die and i cant scream for help but i can hear and see everything around me.

My boyfriend knows about it and he watches me fall alseep now and i it happens he told me to breathe heavy so i start breathing really hard and he eventually notices and shakes me till my body snaps out of it.

It have been six months since my last episode thanks to me being clean now :) i swear it was a side ecfect of withdraw or some shit What do u think?
