Not Zolpidem (Makes me psychotic in high doses)
Not Trazodone (Already prescribed for anxiety and not sufficient enough)
Not Lyrica (Doesn't work at all anymore on me)

I need a list of sleep medication, anything that is meant for that exact reason. Also, it can't be neuroleptica or antipsychotica. Rules of my psychiatrist. (Who seems to have no clue about medicine himself, I always need to suggest stuff myself)

Oh yeah, Please let it be sedating :D

I thank you my friends for the answers that you will provide for which I will await patiently.

Start suggesting medicine.............NOW

Have you tried any OTC remedies? Diphenhydramine/doxylamine are two decent sedating anti-histamines. Melatonin helps restore natural sleep cycles.

What about other z-drugs? Lunesta, etc. Not allowed? Since benzos and anti-psychotics seem to be ruled out that doesn't leave a lot of room for other things.

Are we talking for everyday use, or as needed? Why are benzos out of the question?

Benzos are out of the question because my psychiatrist is an arsehole with a chicken up his butt. The weird thing is...My psychiatrist got more shit for brains than the chicken. HaHa

We're talking everyday use.

Zopiclone and zaleplon probably won't effect me as zolpidem doesn't do anything to me either effect wise.

I've tried getting high of a huge dose of Diphenhydramine before a long time ago and only felt weird electric shivers :s

I don't remember if i have used doxylamine before but as it is an anti-histamine I doubt it is what I'm looking for.

It sounds like you are in a difficult position. As BrokedownPalace mentioned melatonin can help with sleep, and it is OTC. Other than that if benzos, anti-psychotics, and anti-histamines are out of the question I can't think of much. There are barbiturates, but surely if your psych won't prescribe benzos he surely won't prescribe barbiturates. They are very rarely prescribed anymore, anyway, and not something you'd want to be dependent on for sleep. It sounds like your psych isn't giving you many options for helping your insomnia.

the basic drugs to knock you out:
benzos
anti-depressants (trazadone, mirtazipine)
anti-psychotics (seroquel)
anti-histamines (benadryl, doxylamine)
z-drugs
barbituates (you won't get these)
melatonin and newfangled MT receptor agonists like Rozorem
alcohol
otc herbal sleep stuff
homeopathic bullshit.

looks like you've crossed off nearly all the first chices from that list.

not really sure what to tell you, if you can't do benzos, anti-depressants, anti-psychotics, and don't want to bother with anti-histamines... then.. there's not much left for you.

edit: I realized you said no anti-psychotics and no neuroleptics, not no anti-depressants,
Talk to you psych about Trazadone, SSRI's, or other sedative anti-depressants. Perhaps you can work something out in that regime. If your sleep issues are anxiety based, this may be a path to try. (though I personally don't like it)

You are kinda fucked. Benzos are 1st line treatment.
Try Doxalamine as stated above, like a really strong anti-chloregenic

My suggestion:
Chloral Hydrate

I have sonata although I tend to use that for recreation as it doesn't make me sleep. I have been using rozerem to re_train my body together with unisom. It works pretty good but if you are looking for the knockout facter then rozerem isn't for you.

assuming you aren't coming down off amphetamines or something I'd recommend:

Valerian Root, capsules or the tea, it always surprises me how well it works

Doxylamine, always worked great for me, it's kinda harder to find than benadryl but it's usually right in the same section. just look at all the otc sleep meds like unisom, some will have doxylamine in them. buy them!

Any of those meds that have a combination of Valerian root, Melatonin, Kava..etc have usually worked well for me.

Benzos work but they are such a bitch when you get addicted to them, your psych may be doing you a favor if you really don't need them. I've been taking them so long I have to double my rx'd dose for them to put me to sleep.

I usually use ambien, last night I made the mistake of taking trazadone...... jeezus I was asleep for 12 hours, then it took me another four just to be able to move around and feel awake, I was drinking coffee and taking adderall and it still took that long to feel awake after getting up.

Exercise. Once, when I had insomnia I drove to my 24 hour gym at 2am and did a killer workout. I was out like a light by 4am. I'd suggest maybe running, but if you want weight lifting is what I do/did. Honestly, as everyone else has said, you've eliminated all the options.

Well, except for one nobody has mentioned, but you won't get script'd for sleep aid. Opiates. I took 120mg of Oxy IR last night and I couldn't have stayed awake if someone offered me 10 million dollars, lol.

150mg mirtazapine doesn't effect me either. I have strong tolerance to everything that's why this is such a difficult situation for me.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Personally, I'd love to get that chloryl hydrate prescribed haha. That's good stuff. %)

I think he's going to go with Alimemazine or ramelteon and I hope the first one really. Having had chlorpromazine before and reading the details about it on wikipedia about how they are structurally related or something gives me hope. These might knock me out properly. Atleast thorazine in high doses did. It wasn't very fun though but I need something strong around in case I get a bad trip.

Chloral Hydrate is totally reasonable, especially if he knows that you don't drink. I don't see any reason he wouldn't prescribe it, it's like a 3rd line drug for insomnia and a hell of a lot better than seroquel or mirtazapine or any SSRI's or that kinda bullshit.

Sometimes the simplest answer is the best one.

sound advice buddie exercize helps a whole lot:)

Thought of something. What about sedating triclyclic anti-depressants such as doxepin or others.

Trazadone and Mirtaziine were both mentioned (Sedative Anti-depressant though not of the Tri-Cyclic class).

OP you mentioned specifically that 150mg mirtazipine had no effect... did you mean 15mg? Mirtazipine is only sedating in low dosages, it actually becomes stimulating in higher doses so i'm not suprised that 150mg didn't put you to sleep. I was warned not to dose above 60mg if I was seeking any form of sedation. They started me at 7.5mg for a bit then the normal dose I took was 15mg. They don't recommend taking more of it to get the same effects for reasons i mentioned above. I would consider giving it another shot, that or Trazadone.

Both have helped me in the past, however the next morning can be rough and unpredictable. I recommend trying to stay very hydrated the night before. I always feel like crap form sedatives in the morning if I haven't had enough water in me the night before, especially so with antihistamines.

I really don't think rozorem will help you. Its not really sedating, rather, is more useful to help people reset their sleep schedule and get back onto a daily cycle. As a primary treatment for insomnia, I think it offers little help to anyone who is seeking a sedative type drug. However, that's not to say Rozorem doesn't have its uses, some folks just want the easy way out (something to knock their ass out), I myself am part of this category more times than not.
