so in the media for the last 20 years + theres been alot of talk about thc linkd to skitzophrenia,i myself have no recolection of my former self before i started smoking, but i konw that weed diddnt make me skitzo by any means,it has been said that it can bring out latent mental illnesses,im not gonna call bullshit, but i want someone on here to shed some light on the subject, and by all means, you are welcome to call bullshit (i just dont wanna be the guy to do it lol),how has thc treated you in terms of holding onto ur sanity??? i havent met anyone who claims to be skitzo from bud,but i have met people who smoke pot who are skitzo from hullucinagens and whatnot,so strait up,i wanna seee like 20 answers in the next 24 hours its not going to effect my life in any way shape or form,im just tired of hearing this shit ,and you never hear it from someone who smokes pot, just those bottom feeders out there that like to judge like joe brown.

Any drug may induce a psychotic disorder, but this means you were predisposed to the disorder, and it only took an intense experience to push you into having the full blown disorder.

Whether this required drugs or not is a different story.

Cannabis is a rather safe drug, and in essence, is no more likely to give you a psychotic disorder than taking any other drug.

I have bipolar disorder and I can tell you that the last few times I went manic coincide with the last few times I was a daily user of marijuana. For me marijuana certainly seems to trigger symptoms of mania if I have been using it heavily (3x a week or more) for long enough. "Long enough" in the past seems to be as long as using it regularly over a month or three, or as short as just shy of a month. I believe that marijuana can certainly trigger mania in some people who have bipolar disorder, or at least it seems to make the symptoms of bipolar disorder much more prominent.

I could probably smoke once or twice a year and be OK, but after having to learn the hard way a few times I wouldn't touch it if you paid me.

I have a strong feeling that, based on things that I have seen, people I have spoken with, and research that I have done marijuana can exacerbate symptoms of mental health issues in some people. Anything from anxiety disorders, depression and other mood disorders seem to not mix well with marijuana in everyone. I know that, for me, marijuana was more of a therapeutic thing that helped me to treat what I now realize were symptoms of bipolar disorder, but then out of nowhere the pot started to trigger severe mania with what you would call "psychotic features" such as believing that the people on TV were talking directly to me and giving me special instructions, believing 100% that I was a god/prophet/the messiah, thinking the radio or any music I was listening to contained special messages that I just had never noticed before. I had to be hospitalized and I ended up losing a lot of the things that I held dear to me.

I didn't 100% know I was bipolar when I was doing my experimenting with drugs. I had been diagnosed in my teens, but after being off of medications for about 5 years and functioning normally, as well as having been told by a follow-up appointment to a new psychiatrist that I was fine, I assumed that I had been misdiagnosed.

Unfortunately, I was just in denial and I really do have bipolar disorder. My advice to persons with any mental health issues is to avoid marijuana or at least seriously think about cutting down on the amount of times you use it during one year.

Everything that I have read seems to indicate that marijuana does not have any ability to cause mental health issues, but it certainly has a nasty ability to bring out symptoms in otherwise asymptomatic individuals.

i have a very close mate, who smoked pot for about 17 years, the most of that time he was smoking bush(grew hes own) then decided to switch to hydro, few years later, he was pretty fucked up and talked to himself alot, but when he'd have a few cones, he would be back to normal, you'd be able to have a decent conversation with him. so yeah, i guess it does, and no this guy didn't smoke anything else but pot.

Bro your threads almost always make very little sense, I always wonder if your trolling..

Nah, this thread does make some sense.. think about it and google it if you dont already know it.. the data is there but how legit is it?? idk..
Another poster spoke of a guy who talked to himself until he had his 'fix' if you will and then would be straight.. well yeah, that's kinda of me and i am definitely insane without the green as yet another poster suggest at as a possibility for some..
I definitely am not 'addicted' to pot because my symptoms were there prior to my using pot.. but if i am not high, i am not very reasonable of a person.. i am paranoid, delusional maybe even at times, easily distracted, generally apathetic, and otherwise a mental "BLAH" haha.. let me warm-up and have a couple bowls and i am entirely normal aside from the red-eyed/Chinese-look i am likely to have going on..
Like i dont smoke b4 work within 2 hours of work just because if i do i am too chink-eyed to go in and anything after 2 hours, but less than 4 hours, is perfect.. but after 4 hours everything goes back to how it is normally..

Now i view my pot as my meds.. but is it always for the same thing.. no.. i have many problems as does anyone else.. arthritis, depression likely, anger issues, sleep problems, neurological pain disorder, etc.. i use this for everything.. i dont trust the doc any more ever since they got me addicted to some actual hard drugs then cut me off after i told them i smoke pot.. heh.. go figure.. fuck that.. im on to their little scheme.. heh.. anyway though..
What i wanted to mention though is that i believe a lot of my mental problems that i have without the green can be ascribed to my fibromyalgia/neurological problems.. I feel that this is why I get 'mental' w/o pot.. i get pain, then i get angry, then i get just, well, weird.. lol.. so i think of pot as more of a med for the insane than an 'insane-maker'.. but idk because i still need other anti-anxiety meds to keep stable too sometimes.. blah.. so complicated that ill have to vote "I have no fucking clue.." as my answer.. :P

You don't have to believe drugs cause/bring out mental illness for it to be true, I'd be careful using anything with the attitude that your invincible.

I didn't say it's impossible for cannabis to trigger one's first psychotic episode. However any other drug, or intense life experience may do the same thing.

Schizophrenia is follow-able through genetics (not 100% completely but it's one of the most correlated mental illnesses that follow genes and families).

Cannabis can bring out schitzophrenia and other mental illnesses in some people . But only the people who have it in their genetics .

Alot of us don't have mental disorders in our genetics which isnwhy we can smoke an we just lovveeeeee it without experiencing negative effects.

But for a small minority smoking can bring out mental ilnesses as a side effect

These people have pre existing issues as you said. It's BS bro. I could film a person that has skitzo brushing their teeth and say the same thing but, you already know this man.

Yeah skitzophrenia doesn't come out till a later age .

So when u hear the news saying oooo kids get skitzophrenia from pot.

These kids already had it lying in them And they were going to get it anyway

i've bin skitzo-psychotic before i've touch any drug, and it's never gotten worse at all, i still hear voice's and get the sudden urge to kill people but im to stoned to give a fuck.

i have schizophrenia and i have been assured a number of times by my doctors that this particular condition is always hereditary and that all my drug use can not have effected it one way or the other - all things like pot and lsd do is give people around you a bit of a clue that you may have serious issues and some people get diagnosed and helped because of this..

Its all about th MET and VAL genes.

There is actually alot of sane, ongoing research into this subject. If u can get ur hands on this doco - http://www.cbc.ca/documentaries/natureofthings/2010/downsideofhigh/ watch it. A well rounded look at the subject.

There is nothing undisputed about cannabis 'mimicing' schizophrenia. So if u are high 24/7, what does that mean?

Like th documentary says, there are extremists on both sides - the sacred plant and the evil weed. The truth is likely somewhere in the middle... Get educated.
