This year I'm hoping to get 'shrooms for a first time experience :)

I've heard of places around Melbourne and Ballarat where they can be found and I know people with experience using and picking, so yeah *fingers crossed*
 
They grow fucking everywhere in Melbourne. I can almost guarantee you've seen them before, you just didn't know it.
 
how common is it to find shrooms around sydney? i'll be trying a few local parks with natural vegitation in hope to find something at least. might even try growing them if i get lucky :D

I dunno, I have seen wild mushrooms a fair bit (used to get heaps growing in the backyard of my old house in Sunshine) but they seemed different to the ones depicted in the erowid guide. More like the normal ones you get from Safeway, except Mum used to always say they were poison and I was too young to ever want to try them. I also remember fucking massive ones growing that me and my mates used to kick around and throw at each other for fun. I guess I haven't really paid much attention to them aside from that.

But yeah, you're probably right. Next time I see any mushroom I'm gonna pick it and bag it--just in case.;)
 
Nah man, magic ones look nothing like the ones in supermarkets. They are Agaricus, mostly white with brown gills.

Subs have a caramel cap with a white stem.
 
i cant wait to go looking for mushrooms south of perth, ive never been succesful before but its still fun.
 
If you want someone to help ID the mushroom, they do it at http://www.shroomery.org/ . Although never take it as being true, please buy a book or something you can take out with you to help identify them. Seeing if they bruise blue does NOT mean there non toxic.
 
I've been at the shroomery for 4 years. If you get a mod or one of the reputable people to ID, you are in good hands. Half of them have been studying mycology their whole lives, some of them are even mycologists by profession.

Mushrooms with a caramel cap, white stem and purple spore print which bruise BLUE are active. There are blue bruising boletes, but they look nothing like the active ones.
 
Woohoo, Mushroom season '08! I was lucky enough to score some decent one's in February of this year from Cenny coast NSW. My local tends to completely inflate with them from late May to early September. And I sighted a patch of what looked to be a Psilocybe species (can't remember the exact one) in the Blue Mountains over the Easter long weekend.

all this rain must be a good sign.
just went for a stroll to some nice woodchipped areas in my area. so far i havent spotted anything growing.. except for a small patch in the garden at my work this morning. i didnt get to scope them out very well though because some co workers were close by. would have been a bit sus if they seen me inspecting little funguses.
 
im in SE QLD ....queried a mate about this the other day as its been pretty cold n wet, mentioned a few good places 2 start lookin n agreed could be a promising adventure.. im pretty inexperienced with tha shrooms though i will wanna bring someone of somewhat knowledge, done heaps of reading, just wanna b on the safe side:)

Woot! Im SE QLD aswell...hoping that maybe may-august might find some...keep us posted how you go :D

few people said the seasons over here, but come june/july at least it should be right temps shudn't it?

I got a bag coming to me this weekend.

Will hit my mate up for pix tonight.

Can't wait for the first trip of the season but i think i'll take the time to do a methanol extraction to get the best effects.

I doubt there will be another fresh growth untill we get a bit more rain...

They look like the right ones, don't take my word for it though. I've only ever seen pictures, haven't been lucky enough to consume mushrooms yet.

[eK] - do not eat those! Take someone who know what they are doing with you before eating any shrooms found in the wild.
