Television Shows you just "dont get" or just dislike

^My housemate watches that and the OC religiously. Without being able to avoid sounding condescending, it truly is pathetic. It is almost as if it serves as some fantasy social life that she doesn't have.

I think most tv shows suck, there are just too many to list.

Friends.

AHAHAHAHAHA (dubbed laughter) - THAT WAS SO FUNNY

Need I explain?

Hey look, I put my shoes on my hands! HAHAHAHA

laguna beach was scripted? I didnt know that, i feel stupid now :(

No man, hes British, he knows. they got ominescent powder in the water over there.

anyways.....

What i wonder about sometimes (seeing commercials but never watching any of those shows) about the OC, and laguna beach and shit:

The shows make the people in them look so stupid and pathetic and trivial. so why do the people who are actually LIKE that still watch the show? dont it offend them to see how plain-as-day superficial, ignorant, materialistic, petty, and fuckin stupid they make it all look? or can they just not see anything wrong with that and dont care because its accurate and they dont see a problem with living like that?

Or do people just see so much interest in the persona dramas of spoiled rich brats that they watch the show.

I aint sayin no one got the right to watch it, im just saying, if i was one of those kids and I saw the show id be like "what the fuck! they make us look so, like, naieve about the real world and caught up in our own social lives as the end all be all! It makes us look bad"

I generally dont understand shows in which the point is some type of competition and people watch it to see the competition. I just dont get how one gets into it, but thats just me. Also, general reality shows about celebrities

They tend not to see those aspects of themselves in those shows, because of course real human beings, even shallow ones, are more complex than the characters on a television show. But of course, those aspects are there and quite prevalent.

Never forget, the human brain has an amazing capacity for deluding itself.

The OC isn't really all like that. They actually try to develop the characters a bit more than daytime soaps, which, in my opinion, are much worse than shows like the OC. The show often pokes fun at itself, too.
I understand people not wanting to watch it, but that's just a misconception about the show. I don't know anything about Laguna Beach, as I hate MTV.

it's just entertainment :D

Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps - no one that I know actually seems to like this, but which humourless cunt at the BBC gave it the go ahead?

Honourable mention to Little Britain, probably the same bloke that Okay'd the Former.

Nah, it aint misconceptions about the OC that makes me not wanna watch it. it is along the same lines of why i dont watch sex and the city. I dont relate in any way to the show and have no interest in their stupid fuckin lives. i dont give a fuck if the next person does, they can watch it, but i sure aint gonna.

I dont get the reality show interest either i never seen survivor even once lol. and it been around for a long time.

the only reality show i watched once was flippin thru the channels and they had ted nugent on making fun of these dumb bitches cuz they were supposed to be roughin it in the wilderness and the girls all like "ohh its coooold" wearing a buffalo skin and shit.
The best part was when the blonde bitch started rubbin up on him (ted nugent) when he met up with them for the next days "challenge" and hes like "yea do that all you want but it aint gonna get you any points or special treatment" LOL , Hoes dirty plan foiled!!

Anyways, reality TV is fuckin boring, especially the way they treat everything like its so important. like DUN DUN DUN.........WHO stabbed AShley in the back? WHO was it who left the mysterious message on Josh's answering machine? WHY did he seem so uncomfrotable about it? WHEN will Erica hook up with James? WHAT is her REAL HAIR COLOR!??????

Find out on the NEXT......"Yuppies on locked in a house together with alcohol and tickets to the club so drama is sure to start" At 8 pm eastern!

Everybody Loves Raymond - except me i guess, I cant stand any of the characters, they all make me cringe

Futurama - I just don't find this funny at all

Friends - never liked this, can't stand characters that are that dumb

CSI - Ive always like Law and Order and this just seems like a daytime soap opera compared to it, I hate how everything gets solved so easily and grrissom knows the answer to EVERY single dilemma that happens. So predictable and boring imo

I never watched CSI. as you can see from the thread I made i like law n order SVU but i could see how some ppl might not, but i still think thats a great show. from wha ti understand CSI is the more drama-filled less serious one.

i can't belieave no one mentioned "The Real World". has to be the worst show on television. there is nothing real about it.

Everybody cares about rich people. Apart from reality TV, game and talk shows, how many current, non-syndicated series deal with blue collar people, or regular families living the ghetto, or the barrio, what have you? How many soap operas? Although the definition of "middle class" varies, I'm guessing the comparison is not favorable for shows about the "average" American, whoever that is.

Re The Real World:
I couldn't get enough of this show when I was younger, but now I never really watch it; every season can basically be summed up in: "Put five gorgeous people with strange names (and a token homosexual) in a ridiculously expensive dive, with nothing else to do but party, drink, and fuck, and see who hates each other by the end of the season. Repeat."

right. because it's not like different people might find different things funny (and not).

At the risk of turning this into another "elitism" thread, the people who are generally respected as being the most knowledgeable about food (like chefs) overwhelmingly agree that Peter Lugar's has better quality steak than Outback and they could give you dozens of concrete reasons for their decision.

Similarly, the people who are generally respected as being the most knowlegeable about sports (like coaches and former players) would almost unanimously agree and could explain to you in great detail what it was that made Michael Jordan so much better than Clyde Drexler.

So go ahead - call me a conceited prick if you wish, but of all of the many many many people I know who have succeeded in the business of creating comedy, either in stand-up or as comedy writers, virtually every single one of them agrees that Family Guy is among the funniest shows ever written and that Everybody Loves Raymond is among the least funny successful shows ever written.

Perhaps it might be somewhat relevant to point out that people who are actually funny enough to successfully create comedy (or food or basketball), partly because they have a better understanding of comedy (or food or basketball) in general, but more importantly and more specifically, because they, UNLIKE THE NOVICE, better appreciate the concept that some jokes, while they generally evoke a laugh, are EXTREMELY EASY TO WRITE (and hence, lack not only degree-of-difficulty, but often, too, originality), while other jokes, while more subtle and perhaps less gutbusting, ARE FAR MORE ORIGINAL AND FAR MORE DIFFICULT TO CREATE.

The experts might not always be right (e.g., Titantic), and yes, there is often disagreement among "experts" and among "non-experts" (e.g., Seinfeld).

That said, the next time I'm in <insert random city>, I'll take my chances at a randomly selected four star restaurant over the burger chain who has proudly served over 95 billion any day.

Maybe I'm just a conceited asshole who believes that even though all people should be treated with kindness, that doesn't necessarily mean that all people's opinions should be valued equally in every situation.

Or, alternatively, maybe it's a good thing that George W. Bush is allowed to run the free world for eight years.

i agree with a lot of what you say but, and at the end of the day, we're talking about an art form and the population's (completely subjective) reaction to various pieces.

I don't understand the O.C. I've watched like 10 episodes and I never liked it.

I don't get South Park (still). It was funny the first few times I watched it, due to the novelty value of seeing animated children swearing. And I DO appreciate the political content.

But it just isn't funny anymore. Not compared to incredible stuff like Family Guy :)
