Television Shows you just "dont get" or just dislike

American Dad... First, I'm not a big fan of Family Guy, which is why I hate this Family Guy- ripoff show.

Talking dog= talking alien

Liberal daughter in Family Guy= Liberal girl in American Dad

Big chinned husband in family guy= big chinned husband in American Dad

Dorky loser son in family guy= dorky loser son in American Dad

Can anyone else see the simalarities or is it just me?

And Family guy annoys me too. It seems like 75% of the jokes start with Peter saying "That reminds of that time when..."

And whalla! A flashback. Didn't see that one coming.8)

Lost.

I've given it 3 episodes, how the hell is it "The greatest tv drama ever"? You have so many character, most of which suck and lack any substance, stuck on an island with a plot like a bad x-files episode stuck on the island from The Prisoner, minus any originality. It gives you just enough to say "Maybe I'll watch again because they don't explain shit."

Didn't see that one coming.

The goal (one of the main goals, at least) of a well-written joke is to conceal the PUNCHLINE . . . not the SET-UP.

I love it when someone tells me they dislike Family Guy, because that saves me an average of eight or nine minutes before I would have otherwise figured out that I wouldn't want to hang out with them.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.. I hate this show more than any other show on TV right now. I saw several episodes (including the first) thinking that it just had to get better.. I mean it is ranked as the most watch show on TV, right? ::shudders thinking about it::

Its funny cuz it seems like people who like certain shows dont really give a shit if other people like it or not, but the Family Guy people think that youre stupid or theres something wrong with you for not liking it, LOL.

Another one i dont get because I never watched before is "friends." I cant say anything about it, cuz i never seen it, but Im just saying, DAMN, people act like everyone should know about it. I seen enough commercials to know that i never would want to watch it, lol. pop culture is FULL of references to that damn show.

you know what also, Its really fuckin creepy when peopel refer to characters from that show without saying "_______ , from friends" or some shit. like yo......you dont ACTUALLY know her. lol. like "Omigod that reminds me of that time when rachel..." creepy shit man.

how is it creepy? if you're talking to someone you know watches the show, why tack on extra words when they're going to know who you're talking about? I always referred to people from Seinfeld as their character names, and same with X-Files and all my favorite shows.

I agree with disliking Lost too.. it's asking too much of the viewers! Like, you have to write down every detail in order for it to make sense ;)

oh and LOL, Lovelife. Why do you care? Obviously, this thread is about people liking different things, but it seems shallow to dismiss people simply because they don't like a cartoon. 8( But of course, I'm not surprised.

I used to not "get" Family Guy either, me being a devotee of the Simpsons for the longest time. But now Family Guy is my favorite show. I think it takes a little bit of time to appreciate the characters in it, as they struck me as really boring and stupid the first ten or so episodes I watched. But then something just clicked for me, and it's the only show I watch on a daily basis.

I think the scene where Stewie was sucking on Peter's tit pushed me over the edge...

With respect, alasdair, I don't agree that all too many people have "so much trouble with such a simple concept."
this thread is (for me) proof enough that some people do, indeed, have trouble with the concept.

Perhaps it's simply the case that many of these people "value discussing how that manifests itself" more than you do.
as i said, i appreciate that there's value in that discussion. it naturally follows that some people will place a higher value on that discussion than others. that goes to the point i'm making - albeit one level more abstract - that different people appreciate things differently.

I haven't seen too many episodes of Family Guy because I don't really have the time, but I have seen the episodes where Peter gets into a fight with the giant chicken. I damn near pissed myself both times. If you can watch that and not laugh your ass off you have something wrong with the portion of your brain that processes humor.

right. because it's not like different people might find different things funny (and not).

:\

I totally agree about sex in the city. any girl i know who liked it... i didn't really get along with them.

i don't like sarah jessica parker either. YUCK

lol i hate sarah jessica parker too. I had to admit....as much as I enjoyed the show, not an episode goes by where I dont shout "PATHETIC!" at the monitor!

Sarah Jessica Parker tries to shelter her son

Sarah Jessica Parker has reportedly banned the word "fat" from being used around her son because she doesn't want him "learning to use it in a derogatory way."
The 40-year-old wife of actor Matthew Broderick, says: "I've forbidden the word 'fat' to be used in our home because I don't like the way it's used and I don't want him to ever use that word."

While she's at it, she should also ban the words "whiny," and "horsy-faced." Oh, and "obviously married to a homosexual." No reason. Just so that her son doesn't learn to use them in a derogatory or, let's say, factual way. Also, she should poke out his eyes. Again, no reason

Lol....carry on.

That show about the Gotti's I find disturbing merely by the fact it is a television show. It's supposed to be a comedic reality tv show - what i see is 3 brats and a dysfunctional mother with big tits and a bad attitude.

One show that causes me to feel the urge to vomit is Full House and America's Funniest Home Videos. Basically, anything with Bob Saget. That guy enduces feelings of rage in me that I never thought existed.

Also, to Alasdair: I think everyone agrees that different people like different things.

i think you have misunderstood the point i'm making or i haven't made it very well (or both).

whatever, your post is completely off-topic and i'd be happy to pick this up offline.

Reality shows- I just don't understand?? Why does anyone care what these people are doing in there spare time? They know the cameras are there so it's not like they are going to act how they usually are.

Laguna Beach is one of the worst shows I've ever seen. Why would any sane person want to watch a scripted reality show about a bunch of rich stuck up teens? I just dont get it...
