The NHS is in crisis. While services are being cut across the board, we are still shouldering the burden of maintaining legions of heroin addicts. Most of these individuals use their methadone prescriptions as a safety net and continue to use hard drugs. Whilst ultimately these wretched characters are victims of economic circumstance, there appears to be little motive for those in treatment to liberate themselves from the miserable and dehumanising chains of addiction. Enough is simply enough. The working poor can no longer subsidise this circus at the expense of vital services for vulnerable members of society.
