Should we set up a separate forum for all this Xian and anti-Xian debate (along with other religious topics)? Frankly, the crap is boring me, but I could be alone. Also, without it cluttering up our forum, the traffic in T and A will be like half-fold...what do y'all think?

>>bluelight needs a separate forum for religion like i need bricks for hands.>>

LOL...looks like this'll be an entirely theoretical exercise then. :)

I'm against this. T&A has always been about trying to find a greater understanding of the world around us. Is there a god? What is reality?

At the moment there are only three threads about babylon, so it's pointless.

I have definitely been thinking that this place stinks lately. At least we need a science/tech forum and a spirituality/religion forum. I'd like to discuss more science, I suppose, but I don't want crazy arguments hopping up, I dunno...that's what seems to happen in here...

Then again, I could be lying, and not really have anything to talk about at all. Meh...

But uh...man..."is there a God? isn't there a God?"...8(...sorry, maybe just my opinion, but I am damn sick of people on here trying to prove one way or the other!!! I'm also really sick of the free will/determinism debate!!!

8( people need to take an intro philosophy course...or...maybe just trip balls until the answer hits them in the face and they stop asking

If a divide ahs to be put in place, i think it should be between real stuff like science, philosophy, religious debate (when its not nonsense) and the metaphysical stoner ramblings that, cherished as they may be (this is a drug forum after all), don't mean anything. ever. and never generate any interesting discussion.

I get tired of the same old 'God exists' versus 'God does not exist' argument also. Every so often there is a post to the effect of 'if there is a God then why do bad things happen to bad people?' and I always explain that my understanding of God is not that of some dictator in the sky, but instead I feel God as something still inside us all. Then, within a week, this same judgemental question resurfaces. A lot of times when someone says 'I don't believe in God' I might ask, 'what God do you mean, because I might not believe in that God either.'

Nevertheless, despite these same tired arguments recurring, it would be disappointing to see this forum accept the same bitter rupture of modernity, with the materialistic on one side and the spiritual on the other. The name of this forum is Thought & Awareness. To me that means philosophy, art, astrology, psychology, history, magic, physics ... everything. Why limit it? I like that mindfulness, meditation, peek experiences, dreams, psychedelics and contemplative prayer are discussed here along side genetics, economic theory, astronomy, etc. I don't think we ought to demand that the questions asked be defined, to ask people to pick one side or the other, the subjective or the objective.

We know now that meditation has real, observable neurological effects, so where does a discussion about the positive effects of meditation land on the proposed artificial dividing line?

I think posters of various religious orientations and traditions need to respect one another and not prostalatyze.

And to those who think this forum has gotten lame ...
1) Why not just ignore the threads that do not interest you?
2) Why not post something provacative that is the sort of exciting topic you would like to see discussed?

It would be a real shame to limit and marginalize the dialogue.

Were not talking about materialistic vs spiritual. Were talking about religious views.

When you listed your subjects under the heading of T&A you never mentioned religion. Good!

Nothing wrong with considering the idea of god. Lets just find a place for those who have to insist on their religious dogma. I'm tired of the same old lame ass, "if you don't believe you will be thrown into hell" crap.8(

I would say that anti-Xians posting threads pretty much saying, "Hey God-boy! Did you ever consider THIS???!!!11one!!" is as great or a greater problem than Xians posting retreads.

Eh...I'm just tired of the clutter. I guess we can't reasonably create a forum to try to parcel away the crapola...
