Shaun Ryder "I was always a thatcherite really"

wellll, not everyone can be Morrissey can they? ;p

Noel Gallagher did this a few months ago too. I think it's an egocentric reflective-reflex which instantly summons up a free pair of rose tinted specs that allows egomaniacs to reflect on their past 'success'. but unfortunately now they have to 'think' about things and really fucking work for even a fraction of the attention they once had. glory days, yo

that, and all the negative cultural changes in the attitudes of the yoooof get blamed on the Labour Party's tenure by default. Noel is just ranting and raving with not even a minor hint he's ever even attempted to talk to any of the 'feckless youth' he's bemoaning. fucking worthless opinion on the subject of current attitudes and he's a self important prick, who can afford to be with a bank account to match his ego

'It was all better under Thatcher': Noel Gallagher on Britain's glory days, turning his back on drugs and the end of Oasis

He's cleaned up and straightened out, but remarkably, given his own wild past, he despairs of today’s feckless youth...

We were brought up under Thatcher,’ Noel Gallagher is saying.

‘There was a work ethic – if you were unemployed, the obsession was to find work.

'Now, these kids brought up under the Labour Party and whatever this Coalition thing is, it’s like, “Forget that, I’m not interested. I wanna be on TV.” It was a different mindset back then.’

We’re halfway through a wide-ranging conversation in a north London studio, and the man whose brawling band’s conspicuous drug use, bad language and swagger were irresistible to Tony Blair (you’ll recall the 1997 photo opportunity) is sipping a hot drink and telling me this country was better under Margaret Thatcher.

‘Under Thatcher, who ruled us with an iron rod,’ he says, ‘great art was made. Amazing designers and musicians. Acid house was born. Very colourful and progressive.

'Now, no one’s got anything to say. Write a song? No thanks, I’ll say it on Twitter. It’s a sad state when more people retweet than buy records.’

Seriously, I used to be an Oasis fan (to the point where I still have the long hair to prove it) but FUCK Noel Gallagher. He's an absolute cock. I'm positive that I've previously read him saying that if it wasn't for the giro (ie, cunts on benefits with no jobs & no prospects) there would be no Oasis. Fuck him. He's not got a fucking scooby & just wants his mug in the paper to sell some more of his High Flying Turds CDs. Prick.

Edit - Btw, FUCK Morrissey as well. I might now hate Noel but I would suck his dick before I'd allow Morrissey to breathe anymore oxygen.

To be fair, he has a point about there having been a lot of great art made in the Thatcher / Reagan era. I don't think this was down to a 'work ethic' though; rather it was a reflection of the growing unrest and alienation that the conditions of the time helped to foment.

To blame the Labour government for the decline in creativity, however, is downright ludicrous. Especially as they followed the Thatcherite blueprint to the letter.

Oasis did far more to ruin popular music than Tony Blair ever did. Fact.

I've just had a big rant/slight debate about this on Facebook (the Noel thing). I'll copy n paste my (oh so important lol) opinions here rather than re-type the same shite...

I didn't say he praised Thatcher. I don't think he's any more or less of a cunt because he voted for Labour. I think he's a cunt because he's a fucking hypocrite. He bangs on about giro'd up youth but has (I'm fairly sure) previously said that if it wasn't for the fact that most of them were bumming about on the giro with no interest in getting an actual job (the same as today's Ali G speaking "yoof") then there would never have been an Oasis. He happily sooked on Tony Blair's wee banger for a photo/publicity opportunity & now he's happily sooking on The fucking Daily Mail's wee banger for another one. He also states that he wants the money, the planes, the boats etc or whatever the fuck the actual quote is rather than the artistic integrity, therefore perpetuating the culture that he is, in almost the same fucking sentence, condemning. I could continue but I've went on long enough & the article pretty much speaks for itself. Fuck Noel Gallagher.

In fact, one more thing, although he apparently has £30 million in the bank & apparently doesn't even speak to his brother he quite happily entertains the idea of an Oasis re-union for nothing more than cash money. He's a wank.

I think he contradicts himself quite a lot because he is a fucking hypocrite, not because he's on the wind-up. He says these things as though he never believed in anything he previously said, so either he doesn't believe what he says now, or didn't believe what he said back in the day - makes me think that these things were said to sell CDs more than anything else which equals CUNT.

I agree with you though, next to Drake Noel Gallagher looks like the greatest guy ever. I think Noel is a total wank these days but I wish Drake had never been born.

The fact that he actually contradicts himself in the same article as well, without even realising it because, let's face it, he's probably not that smart (despite his mega-bucks) means that it's not even a case of him changing his mind as he's got older/grown up, it's just a case of him saying what he thinks people want to hear - In this case the readers of The Daily Mail, give him a Guardian interview tomorrow & he'll probably have a totally different point of view. He doesn't fucking know what he believes in or thinks, he's a sack. I don't mind him breathing though, I do mind Drake breathing.

The thing with Drake is, I can forget he exists. I've never bought his music, never really wasted much time listening to it & never went to see him play live. None of the money that Drake has ever spent has came from my pocket so I don't really feel as pissed off at him as I do at Noel Gallagher.

As you can imagine, if you can be fucked reading all that, there was some mention of Drake from someone else in there but what was said isn't really important to my overall opinion, other than my mate saying "I find it hard to hate anyone else today as I have just found out about this Drake guy".

You can see that Noel's Daily Mail article wound me up a wee bit haha, especially when I was not long home from a mad weekend of too little sleep & too many drugs.

Que? Everyone an April fool except The Spade and he's from Dundee? That the waggery of Observer journalists found such easy credibility says a lot about the state of our culture. When what is parodied is often as ridiculous as the parody itself, it's not always easy to tell what's spoof and what's not. One in five of the Radio4E audience apparently believed the recently repeated documentary on N.F.Simpson was part of the David Landers series. God help us if the Martians ever land.

If someone sings a catchy tune or looks good on screen, admire them as musicians or actors. In other areas, they're most likely as big an arsehole as anybody else and their opinions of similar merit. Celebrity culture sends everyone a bit nuts and is best avoided.

I think you're being harsh on guys like Hendrix who did offer something more than an insurance policy tho.

I didn't suggest that any performer didn't have true beliefs or convictions just that they are all fallible like the rest of us, why should we expect so much from them and so little from ourselves, why it was only yesterday I sold one of my children for crack ;) I said I'd never do it but needs must and all that

yeah, exactly!

thank thee Lord baby Jebus you're in thailand ... keeping it real for all of us <3

The rest of us wouldn't sell our arse to an insurance company who refuse convicted drug users policies tho would they? I'd expect higher standards from you atm ;)

Not sure about selling my arse, but if the bills needed to be paid I guess I'd have to grin and bear it ;) I've worked for some big companies in fact one of the most unpopular companies there has been in the UK in the last few years.

I'm pretty sure all or at least most insurance companies have similar policies, I've made my views clear before, your either in or out of the capitalist society, you handle money have a TV by shit and all that then your as guilty as the next MF.

Do I think Iggy Pop has lost some Kudos doing those shitty ads, yes but who am I to judge him. These people are just earning a living who are we to place our restrictions on what they do, criticise them if you feel it makes you feel better, but if the'd have offered me a 6-7 figure sum to do a few stupid TV ads on car insurance they could have my fekin arse. I'd be laughing all the way to the box under the bed where I keep all my cash ;). Just like I don;t have to but into a companies ethos to work for them (most people don;t have that luxury) I wouldn't need to buy into and insurance companies policy rulings to take their cash for an advert.......simpl** no not even I can go that far:D

What are you on about spade? If you don't like the thread can you pipe down mate? You must've added about 5 pointless messages.

No, No lets here more, in what way has BL "gone daft" please elaborate oh mighty post counted one ;)

Still trolling us or are you being serious Issy? Either way it's hilarious. On one hand I'm thinking your the comedy king of wind ups on the other hand maybe you're just fucking daft.

Good bit in that doc about the Doors tho atm - the rest of the band agreed to sell a song for a car commercial while Jim was away and when he came back they said "Is that ok Jim?" and he said "No, it's NOT ok" and they never did sell the song.

I wouldn't need to buy into and insurance companies policy rulings to take their cash for an advert

I'd have to think about it - Bill Hicks always said if you do a commercial every word you say is now like a turd falling into my drink and you are off the artistic roll call :)

maybe you're just fucking daft.

You're being a little spiteful towards me of late spade, have you taken against me or something?

Ok so now I'm actually convinced you've been duped yourself Issy and not on a massive windup / trolling sesh like I originally thought.

Spade - Issy n atm have been discussing something different from the original article issy posted, for almost the entirety of the whole thread so I'd rethink and take a look at it again in a different light

other than being 'april fooled' by the original article, the rest is a legit conversation with decent points going back and forth.

[edit] there's nothing daft about the points either of them are making, once you take out the Ryder piece

[edit x 2] unless Issy's a schemer par excellence and bored out of his brains

I think he was right with the above too ....

Built to Spill - Planting Seeds

I've heard that they'll sell anything and I think they might, I think Bill Hicks was right, about what they should do ...

love BTS tons. the last album which included the above track was fucking beautiful

lyrics:
NSFW:
I'd hand it to time if I knew where the time had gone
the connoisseurs were wrong
and so was everyone else

I know what they're saying cuz that's all they talk about
just need to figure out
some shit for myself

and just because it's obvious doesn't mean it's even true
heard it all and I believe that we deserve another point of view

we can make it if we try
and if we don't it's gonna still be alright

cuz our minds are still alive
and we can decide what's right

make up your mind make up your own mythology
afraid of finding me
and of defining you

take what you want but you won't want it where your at
I know this for a fact
just because it's so true

the first place my mind goes is where I never want it to
like where it hurts the most or all the stupid shit I say and do

you can make it if you try
and if you don' it's gonna still be all right

cuz our minds are still alive
and we can decide why

telling me thousands of times what's next to want
just doing their job but you know that's a dirty job
can't stand this game still we're bullied to play along

when bullies grow up they get meaner
yeah they really get it down

they think that they get it but they always get it wrong
they'll play your favorite song
just to sell shit to you

I've heard that they'll sell anything and I think they might
I think Bill Hicks was right
about what they should do

and just because you love something doesn't mean it's yours to buy
been selling it so long that no one even knows the reason why
you've been messing with our minds
gettin' rich wasting our time

This thread is brilliant. Wish I could add more but have to get to work :D
