Seroquel will knock you out because of its high activity at histamine receptors, this is why its used as an AP where sedation is desired. However imo its too much just for sleep where no serious mental issues are presented. Chloral hydrate will 'knock you out' but wouldnt be appropiate for daily use in insomnia.lol the higher doses not being as sedating could be a feature they share with mirtazapine as this is also less sedating at a high dose. This is because low activity at other receptors like the NA receptors becomes apparent at high doses. You still get the sedation aspect but that wears off quicker then the other receptor activity and so the medication seems less sedating. At least thats my understanding of it. :-D
