As was mentioned by some here, this sentence and other similar sentences have little if anything to do with religeon or culture, and everything to do with totalitarianism and endemic corruption.

Malaysia, Singapore, the UAE, the Phillipines, Thailand...all places with little or no true representation and ruled by corrupt regimes.

Thing is, who should know better? That's right, the United Nations, which in effect condones these atrocities through their own 'global drug war'...which, when you break it all down, is no less than the 'U.S war on drugs'. A 'war' which is waged the world over with millions of victims every single year.
 
about a year ago i read about buy who got bust wit .02 grams of pot. No i did not type that wrong. I cant remember where this was but i think he got 50 years. Kicker is he didnt know that little speck of bud was on him. This all went down at a airport btw
