Clerk to hang for trafficking cannabis four years ago

ALOR SETAR: A clerk who was charged with trafficking in cannabis four years ago cried when he was sentenced to death on Sunday.

Zakaria Ahmad, 32, could not hold back his tears when he saw his mother and three siblings crying after Judicial Commissioner Mohd Zaki Abdul Wahab delivered the verdict.

Zakaria was found guilty of trafficking 2,207.1g of cannabis on Feb 8, 2006 at a petrol station in Taman Sejati Indah in Sungai Petani.

He was charged under Section 39B of the Drugs Dangerous Act 1952.

This is one of the very few times I'll use the argument: It's only a plant, this man has been sent to death over a plant that causes virtually no harm - and even so not a harm that deserves death.
 
Not virtually no harm; literally no harm. Any harm that comes from using cannabis is the sole responsibility of the user, and even then you have to really try to cause yourself harm with pot it doesn't just happen if you're unlucky.
 
This is malaysia we are talking about here and it does not surprise me as their drug laws are some of the worst in the world. How anyone could support the islamic backwards fascist regime that exists there is beyond me.

Hanging for abit of fucking weed! The world will be a safer place indeed after this man dies a awful death for a so called crime that hurt nobody :X . If the bastards who sentenced him have any conscious at all (i seriously doubt they do) they won't get a minutes sleep. But no they will sleep soundly knowing they did their cuntry good by hanging this evil drug trafficker!

You have to understand that whilst the people who did sentence him really are bastards, it is probably not entirely their own fault.

Prohibition has maintained an air of success and respectability in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary for the last 90 years.

It's the same reason you can't really hate all those people that believe cannabis is a killer drug - the Daily Mail middle England readers if you're in the UK. It's been forced down their throats for however long, and it's all they believe.

It's appalling that anyone can be hanged for such a menial offence, it really is, and I am in no way justifying it, but we cannot blame the individual for societies faults.
 
Malaysia and other countries in that region's drug laws are fucked up beyond belief. I have a friend that got caught with around that much weed here in the states and he just got a slap on the wrist.

In Malaysia if you get caught with any quantity off ketamine it's automanicly concidered trafficing.

Even nations with non-religious governments still have the same problems; just look at fucking China's awfull drugs policies. They are just a corrupt as Malaysia's. Does anyone rember when that guy that had severe skitzofrania got tricked into smugleing heroin into China. They exicuted him even though they were complty aware of his mental status.

China and Russia are both pretty awful on drug laws.

Just a shame the new head of the UNODC is a Russian really ...
