Selegiline (l-deprenyl) - too good to be true?

Read this Samson:

You may say that 20mg of Prozac is only a small MAOI inhibitor, but Prozac has a VERY long half life, so as you take it each day, the MAOI effects goes up as the doses 'overlap' each other.

And because it inhibits both MAOI A and B it makes some people very sensative to Tyramine, especially if they smoke cigarettes.

I'm inclined to agree... MAO inhibition appears to contribute something to prozac's effectiveness, though it is AFAIK a reversible MAO inhibitor, and therefore nowhere near as dangerous as the irreversible types (e.g. phenelzine and tranylcypromine)

has anyone experienced quite noticable increase in anxiety or agitation. ive started taking dep again this week and noticed it made me quite anxious with de-realisation type feelings at work. i work behind a bar right now so that can be fairly stressful anyway but the DR was definitely there.

Cheers.

could selegiline be used instead of ritalin and dexies (ADHD meds) for somebody who is ADHD?
Can it be combinded with ritalin, temazapam, dmt, mushrooms and lsd?

I couldn't really advise on this other than to say if you do think of doing this without your dr's consent, then it's imperative that deprenyl (selegiline) is not started until the amphetamine / ritalin etc is completely eliminated.

does that mean don't have deprenyl unit ritalin has completely matabolized? is it because of the over stimulation or brain damage or other side effects?

like with this MAO thing how long after deprenyl can you take other drugs like amphets and the like?

does deprenyl reduce appetite and cause sleeping probs?

tadfish, as you know ritalin and dexies are speed. Do some research. All the information pertaining to deprenyl indicates that it can be very dangerous to combine with speed and mdma. Have a good look around bluelight using the search engine.

Thats why Ive stopped using it atm. You have to be committed and prepared to take it very seriously. Its not like other smart drugs.

You need to read this thread and other info on the actions of this drug (Erowid, MIMS etc) . It's important to understand how it works, and to realise the potential dangers - which are very real - of mixing some classes of drugs with selegiline.

Other posters have indicated a residual effect, which can last up to several weeks- months post selegiline use.

Best bet, if deciding to take selegiline, is to completely forget other stimulants other than perhaps caffeine and perhaps a synergist like phenylalanine as Velocidex and nanobrain have mentioned. Others experienced with the drug may have something to add to this, but as I said elsewhere, for me it's early days yet.

^^ Use the f***ing search engine. Or to put it another way; the search engine is your friend :)

exactly.. or simply flick back through the 7 pages of this thread. It probably has the most deprenyl info ever combined into one thread anyway.

At the risk of repeating things, I had this blurb emailed to me in an eNewsletter a month or two ago, from the place I used to order nootropics.
This week we would like to focus on one of the world's most important antiaging medicines - Deprenyl.

Deprenyl (also known as selegiline) has shown the ability to dramatically increase the life expectancy of animals after a series of famous experiments in the 1960's by Professor Joseph Knoll. He proved that Deprenyl improves the availability of dopamine, and slows its age-related decline by acting as a selective MAO-B inhibitor. According to Professor Joseph Knoll, it has an enhancer effect and helps maintain healthy brain cells, (particularly in the dopamine producing neuron area of the brain called the substantia nigra). Deprenyl enhances brain levels of both dopamine and PEA.

[...]

Deprenyl is also noted to have anti-depression properties and aphrodisiac effects (much more so for men), helping to improve sexual function and desire.

Deprenyl tablets are selegiline hydrochloride, which is deprenyl bonded to an in-organic molecule. Anti-aging doses, (dependant on age and condition) are more likely to be 2.5mg to 5mg once, twice or three times a week, or better still 1mg to 3mg per day, with regular breaks. However, liquid deprenyl citrate (LDC) is selegiline bonded to an organic molecule, one reason why the liquid deprenyl citrate is considered to be superior. This form is generally recognized as the most pure and potent form of deprenyl available, and also allows precise titration, as each ml drop in the bottle is equivalent to 1mg deprenyl citrate. The manufacturer recommends 1mg two times per week for 30 to 35 year olds, up to 10mg daily for 80 year olds plus (an age/ dosage list in English is enclosed with order). Ward Dean M.D. recommends reducing deprenyl doses after several months and suggests taking occasional sabbaticals.
I imagine this is the information the company supplies when they sell the product, however I haven't ever ordered it. They are (as the vendor) very positive about the benefits of the drug, of course ;)
