Second Opinion Social Thread v.NoT gives Random Thoughts for you!

Dave and others who want recipes - my answer is quality bread of your choice, cheese, and real butter.

How do you (the participants in this thread) do your laundry? I live in an apartment building and it's 3 flights down. What do you use to wash your clothes? I use Purex detergent which is sulfate-free, with Downy sheets. It's quite relaxing. Laundry is usually my favorite chore.

I can't wait to wash all my socks and underwear. I've been so tired from traveling and so busy since traveling.

May go round to a friend's to do laundry. Listening to some good music at present and chilling out :)

generally, i place the basket of dirty clothes in the laundry room, then come back in a day or two and they've all been magically cleaned

the laundry room is in the basement of our apartment building. i wait until i have 2-3 loads before doing laundry. i use arm and hammer liquid detergent and downy with febreeze dryer sheets.

You should try your hand at hand-washing your clothes. Works your arm muscles! (Haha, helped hand-wash clothes the other day [and by that I mean I hung them :P].)

At my house, we use an Arm & Hammer dye- and perfume-free liquid soap. I don't use dryer sheets. Normally wait until I have two loads (shirts and lighter items & jeans and heavier items), maybe three with towels. After the clothes have piled up in the hamper in my room, I walk ten feet down the hall to the bathroom/laundry room. :P I am spoiled.

On thread: Calling the number on the "contact information" sheet and leaving a message saying I will not be in should not have gotten me a "no show no call" on my record! How was I to know that wasn't the number to call when it was listed as the contact number?!

i usually do one load of laundry a week. i live in an efficiency apartment so putting it off really isn't an option as i don't have much room for dirty clothes. i'm not loyal to brands as far as laundry goes and i just go for whatever is cheapest at the time that i'm buying my detergent and crap. :)

some day i'll have access to a clothesline. there's nothing better than clothes and sheets that are line dried.

I make my mother do it.

JK,
I get my ass up and do my own laundry if I want clean clothes for work.

I'm lucky, my building has washing machines on every floor. Crappy top-loading coin-ops, but still better than going down a bunch of floors.

I find the cool/perm press cycle with my special hippie soap works nicely. Everything except for towels and sheets are hung to dry in my suite. Fabric softener is unnecessary, and counterproductive if used on towels.

I'm debating plumbing in a washer in my own suite, but that would involve tearing apart my bathroom and losing a third of my storage room. Still, when some twat leaves their damp clothes to moulder for half a day in the communal machine, it seems like a bargain.

On an unrelated note, ethylene glycol is a bitch and a half to clean up. Ugh. Any tips?

1) How fucking hypocritical of you. The very same activity that put us on a slippery-slope, you're looking past with this new guy. Fuck off. I hope you learn your lesson with this one. :|

2) Fuck off.

3) Fuck off.

4) Oh and did I mention, Fuck off.

Regarding laundry.

I have quite the stairs to my laundry room in my basement. I have done 3 loads today (have to do them one at a time) and I have to stay up to watch that royal wedding.

Dave, if you've got the bucks, invest in machines of your own for sure! I can look up environmentally-friendly ones later. What is the color of clothing you want to get ethylene glycol out of?

I am on assignment so my nerves are shot to pieces. WTF, I am supposed to be off this week. Not happening.

a_c, are you back in the PNW? I would love to see you again soon. I can drive up whenever; roomie has my car for the weekend but anytime after that would be awesome. We'll develop some recipes :) That should de-stress us significantly!

^i am just visiting for my spring break. but moving back to the area in august if all goes according to plan :)

its very tempting to stay here tho. both my old roommate and husband don't seem to care. only problem is my job, i would feel bad abandoning them. even tho there is only one month of school left.

@Mari-- it's not the machine that's the worry, but rather the hassle of destroying my bathroom to put in the required plumbing. I found a great combo washer/ductless dryer (not that I use a dryer that often) that looks pretty slick. If I have to destroy my bathroom to plumb in the washer, I may as well re-do it a bit more nicely than it was, which would cost a few diniiro.

Oh, and the ethylene glycol was a minor spill at work, that I was able to eventually clean up. Pain in the ass stuff though.

I hate when people include me in their plans, but never mention a word about it until the day before. Then when they ask me if I'm gonna be around and I say "no, I have plans tomorrow" they get shitty and act like I just fucked up their plans. People... if you want me to do something with/for you, within reason, I'm probably ok to do it... but you have to TELL me cause I don't plan my days around plans that don't exist.

^are you sure they didn't just plan it the day before? i don't make plans till the day of usually.

Well, it was something that they wanted me to help them with. When asked if I'd be around, I said "no I'm gonna be in Columbus" they rolled their eyes, said "nevermind," and walked away. As if I should feel guilty. C'mon now.

Haha, I had the same conversation with my Mum the other day. She phoned to ask if I was remembering to take her somewhere - "Ehh, say WTF are you talking about?". Turns out my wife & her spoke about me being the driver, but I had already made other plans helping my friend move house. If I'm part of the plan, at least let me fucking know before the event FFS!" :X

My mom was the same way for many years. Still is to an extent, but is getting a bit better. At least she recognizes that she's the one at fault for not including me in the discussion.
