Because bluelight has a lot of shit in it. Too much shit to be taken seriousily by any if the general public.

Dont get me wrong, I love bluelight. Its the single most informative website, due to its dicussion, in my eyes.

But its because of that dicussion, you have to sift through idiots making stupid statements to get to that information.


The mods do a fantastic job most of the time. But they would need to censor someone, everytime they made a statement that wasnt entirely true if it were to be perfect.

Enlighten is more palatable to the general public because the only people in Enlighten are really smart people who are seriousily interested in HR and are required to enter a bit more information then username and password to join up.


I'm not trying to speak for BL or Enlighten; this is just my 2c
 
That idiot next to the girls had nothing to say yet he had so much air time. He was pretty much saying drugs are bad because no one had obviously introduced him to them.

Im suprised that they really don't know how widespread drug use is, well I guess they do with the introduction of sniffer dogs all over the place but it's like the government doesn't want to admit it.

I mean with 100kg busts on the news you would think people would have an idea that drugs are an issue. I mean Anna Woods father saying he had no idea how wide spread drugs were until his daughter died, smell the roses my good man.
 
BL was mentioned by Mick at the end but it got edited, and don't get paranoid it was probably only for time reasons.

As for Mr Wood... I went up to him afterwards and shook his hand, saying I felt for him but wanted to assure him that although we were on different sides of the fence we were after the same thing. He took this well but very quickly the conversation turned surreal.

He said "I just wish Australia was more like Singapore". We thought he was joking but he was deadly serious. He went on. "They got it right there, zero tolerance, put them against a wall. If only we had that system"

"Err but we have a democracy. In Singapore there are no free elections, you can't protest and a show like this would be impossible" I stammered, not really believing he was saying this. "It's a police state".

"Australia is the police state" he said. "Decent people have more freedom there".

*me, nick and mick gobsmacked*

"But are you saying that places like there and Saudi Arabia where they kill dealers in the city square is where we should be headed?"

"Yes"

"But what if it was your daughter was the one being beheaded?"

"She'd be alive to day if we had that system"

*our brains explode*

I honestly had sympathy for him before he said this. I approached him to try and build a bridge and found the distance was way more extreme than I ever could have imagined.
 
Big props to those brave enough to appear on behalf of us all. Besides from our own BL'ers, the three kids in the row in front of JD were great too.

As others have asked, who was the dick in the suit next to Amy? The young Liberal president or something? "Never even had a puff of a cigarette in my life..." Wow, aren't you special.
 
I wouldnt take it too seriously john boy, the mans just confronted the thing that took his little girl, he's hardley thinking clear headed.

all though i agree somewhat, they represent a vast majority of young people who research what they use only to a certain degree, but more overwhelmingly learn about drugs through experience with a culture of partying drug users. probably a bit too much focus, but then again, a lot of people who use drugs are similar to them so it was important to get a good say out of them.
 
I didnt see the show, but if someone is able to put up an audio copy or something id appreicate it. :)

I am looking forward to watching this again. I would also like to thank everyone who appeared on this show on behalf of HR and making harm minimisation the true 3 dimentional approach it is meant to be.

What I wouldn't give to view all those snippets that are on the editing room floor..

Big Credit to those who got up there and had a go, particularly the Bluelighters, thanks for choosing to publicly represent.

Johnboy, I would cringe with frustration when listening to some of the more senior citizens views' on your descriptions of Enlighten's approach to harm-minimisation - you did well not to scream and pull your hair out :) top notch.

I suggest we all organise some kind of class-action lawsuit against the guy who failed us all with his 20 years of prohibition effort washed down the drain. He admitted liability on national TV, he's got nowhere to hide now!!
 
Massive props Johnboy. Really hope some positive drug re-education comes out of this.
As for the 'blacksheep' i'm happy he was there, just shows how ignorant some people are about the problems that affect so many...
 
Big props have to go to the two girls who were brave enough to go on camera and let themselves be filmed being totally honest about their lives. I was so impressed with not only their honesty but their desire to get their views across and the way they did it. I wish more people were that brave.

And I couldn't have asked for better people to have sitting next to me than Mick, fantastic as always, and Nick, who I hadn't met before but wish I'd had at my side more often. And thinkingwelfare, I wish I had more time to talk to you and thank you for your passion. If anyone was going to bitch slap Mr "I've failed you" guy it was her. I swear she was going to deck him. :)

So yeah. It was fun. And I hope it has shown how the media is there for us to be a part of. The Jello Biafra quote that I have been saying here for years really sums it up: Don't hate the media, become the media!
 
haha i agree the guy in the suit was a fuckwit, but was definitely the odd one out with very little to back up his "ideas". Johnboy's story about mr wood is disturbing, i hope he seeks some grief counselling... ill be interested to see whether there is any reaction from the government or the public.. if neone hears nething could they make sure they post it??cheers (and another congrats)
 
eProps to you all, it was a brilliant program showing both sides of the argument.
What I thought was amazing was the older "respected" people, the psychiatrist and such that were on the left side of the stage, the ones with the research, actually had very respectable viewpoints (in favour of us that is).
I'm sure if they were paid by the government they would of said some very different things...

unfair really. Dr Cameron Duff (guy with lip stud and spikey hair in the suit) works for the Australian Drug Foundation. They are as government as they come, and did you listen to what he had to say? (Also notice his hand going up when she asked the crowd who had done drugs).

It is never the agency, it is the courage of the people that make it up.

Also notice how the extreme bigots in the audience made the point that the "failed policy of harm minimisation" was bi-partisan and that Howards government was not going far enough!
 
Well done guys, it didn't cover enough on the issues of club drugs for my liking but I am less concerned with marijuana and opiates. I will have a digital version on the Enlighten website within the next few days or sooner. After viewing this I wish I had have been there. ;)

I agree, they did a very good job and were quite well informed too. This is in contrast to people you would see on ACA discussing their drug use. I just wish Abbott or Pyne was there. We needed another Pyne arsewhooping.

On another note Enlighten will be having an intake within the next two months so if you support the cause, live in Melbourne and want to be involved please answer the call when it occurs.
 
I think it would have been great if you did CM, but you shouldnt feel obligated to

You know... I wish someone had've said to Mr Wood... your daughter died from water hyponatraemia and if there had been enough education out there, perhaps her situation wouldn't have arisen. Also the fact that her friends were too scared to call for help because they thought they might get in trouble.

Anyway, credit to Insight... I thought it was a really well balanced program.

The goose in the suit though...

Fucking props to Johnboy, Nick & Mick for going and representing us in such excellent and erudite style. Thanks guys, we need all the good press we can get and you guys are about as good as it gets. :)

I felt like cheering at the TV. And on other occasions like throwing things, heavy, blunt things, especially at the suited moron. It was good to see the more measured response from Tony Trimingham? Nice to see that parents of kids who've died partly as a result of drugs, can still be rational.

Maybe someone should tell the deceased Ms Wood's Father that if you drink 8 litres of water in a couple of hours without taking a pill you'll still be dead...

Anyrate, good show, kudos all round.
