SAT scores

I'm a genius. Srsly. I'll show you my IQ score to prove it. :D

despite his rude comments and the "trucker mother fucker" mouth and his need to act like a complete idiot 99% of the time... he is one of the smartest (clever) people i've met in a long time. now only if he could put some of that intelligence to use =D

Unfortunately, many of those who score closest to perfect on these tests tend to be morons in their own right.

1470 SAT | 790 Math / 680 Verbal
Purdue

Damned inferential reading questions..........
(Jeaulous of AmphetamineNinja, couldnt get into UC Berkeley)

my high school didnt require the SAT, we did the ACT. stupid test had me in fucking tears the first time i took it, but got a 27. second time i took it, got a 29, with like a 33 in english. i dont really remember any of the other breakdowns, i just know i felt really, really smart. (until i got on this thread that is)

the peculiar thing was that back when we took SATs in the early 80s, the total score one got often correlated pretty accurately with their IQ score if divided by ten. So my 1160 was very similar to my IQ which was measured at about 116! I was definitely above average in intelligence and almost bright, though definitely not 'brilliant'. Most people at my school got SATs of between 850 and about 1100; I was just outside the main range in the bell curve at my school.

people with IQs of 85-90 represented more than a tiny minority in college? they must've worked their asses off....

actually, i was re-thinking this, and i'm pretty sure the test wasn't designed with that conversion in mind because the test was designed so that the average student got around 1000 on it, which would correspond to an IQ of 100 by your conversion. however, since the self-selected group of kids who take the SAT are probably slightly smarter than the population as a whole, their IQ is probably slightly higher than 100.

....actually, now that i am thinking about it....consider the bell curve of IQ scores versus the percentiles of SAT scores (not sure whether SAT scores are normally distributed.) for example, in 2003, about 28% of kids scored 1150 or better on the SAT. however, only about 16% of the population should have IQ scores higher than 115. assuming that slightly smarter kids took the SAT, most likely the percent of kids with IQs higher than 115 taking the SAT is greater than 16%, but i think it's reasonable to assume it's probably not 28%.

also, i think the theory doesn't hold true at the high end (or the low end!) of the spectrum. for instance, 25% of my class at college scored a 1580 or better on their SATs, and i can tell you that 25% of my class does not have an IQ of 158 or better. of course, this is all confounded by test prep, too.

...anyway, thank you for giving me something to procrastinate with;) ...i have two papers to write for tomorrow:\

I'll show you now that you don't need outstanding scores to go to the school of your choice (In my case, the grad soc program at UC Berkeley):

SAT (1998ish):
verbal: 700
math: 690

GRE:
verbal: 620
math: 730
analytical writing: 6/6 (96th percentile)

estimated IQ via correlation with GRE: 140

My dick may be large, but I ain't workin' with 12 inches. :)

ebola

I have never taken the SAT, just the ACT. On it I pulled a 30 my sophomore year of high school, which was enough so that they paid me to go to the college I attend...At least until I did nothing but party the first 2 years.

I'm pretty sure the breakdown was:

Reading: 35
English: 34
Science: 27
Math: 23
Composite: 30

I'm pretty terrible at math, as you can see

I got a 26 on my ACT

18 on english (it was a 20 the first time I took it)
24 on math (same as the first time)
32 on reading (29 the first time)
28 on science (24 the first time)
20 on combined english/writing (19 the first time)

I'm not happy with the scores, well the english and math scores I'm not happy with, so I'm going to take it for the 3rd time probably in the fall.

I'm planning on going to App State, but I would love to go to UNC (even though Im a duke fan) for the pharmacy school. However the UNC dream will more then likely not happen.

I think the fact I rarely pick up a book hurt me on the reading. Especially with the vocab. Though I'll remain skeptical of the whole critical reading deal. My scores always vary. I got the highest score out of my class on the AP English critical reading but a rather low one on a simple English SOL. I think my problem comes from using my intuition too much while reading over passages as I completely ignore certain aspects and just perceive the story in my own way as I read it.

(going to university of virginia btw. Kind of interesting, people with better GPA and SATs weren't getting in, guess it was from all the druggy-wisdom I had throughout my essay. ;))

I'm reviving this thread because I just got my SAT scores back.

Critical Reading-640
Math-510
Writing-600 (Essay-8/12 Mult. Choice-61)

How good is this good by today's standards? And is the total score just the sum of the three parts?

I hate these threads because there's too much potential for dick sizing, but here goes:

Back when the SATs were just math and verbal, I got 1370. On the ACT I got a 30.

750 verbal, 620 math for the SAT

I don't remember the exact breakdown of my ACT scores, but I remember getting like a 24 in math, a 34 in science, and mid 30s for the other two. Go Figure.

I also have to wonder how many scores would stand if we were asked for proof, like maybe your SAT score sheets with your screen names written on them?
