i am "addicted" to eye drops and have often wondered what the consequences are of near daily use. i use both the red relievers, allergy relief drops, and plain "tears" type. so far i've had nothing bad happen, i've been using them regularly for about 6 or 7 years maybe more. eye exams are always ok and i havent decreased my vision in any way.
i have heard here and there of things that can happen with chronic use, but the only major thing is "Rebound redness" - not after one use but people who use the red relief drops for YEARS will report that for weeks after discontinuing the drops their eyes are constantly red, very red, and nothing can stop it. eventually it will clear but this seems to be the major complaint. i have also noticed that the more i use them, the more frequently they seem to get red. if i stop using them for a week, it just seems like i need them less. its a cycle.
i do know that used infrequently, all the drops are safe - but they were not designed for continuous use, or anything to close to that. i would say you are ok with all of them if you don't use them all that often.
i too have heard particularly bad things about clear eyes brand. that may just be a myth/rumor. i would say look at the active ingredients, youll notice all the different varieties/brands have varying concentrations of active ingredient and what not. use the one with the least amount that still works for you.
