Russell Brand on Question Time

There's a fine line between being likeable and demagoguery tho. If Blair had been a "weaker" leader he could never have conned the nation into going to war on Iraq for example. I like policies not leaders.

I know what you mean. Content is more important than the packaging. It would be nice to have a charismatic leader with policies. If you have no 'courage of your convictions' without strength of personality they may not amount to anything more than dreams.

I was all set to watch the program on i-player until I saw that Melanie Philips was one of the other guests. She is one of the people whose views make me very angry indeed, to the point where i do actually shout at the TV like a nutter.:o:X

im the same,hate her

middle england cunt

I never watch Q-Time usually (BNP scum attending aside) but Brand and Boris together?!?!
Had to.

I do think Brand is a tad high horse when it comes to his views about drug legislation et. al. but I think his heart is actually in it.
One can only disagree I guess!

Brian Eno's clever and successful and I don't hate him...

...even if he once advertised cat food.

That's the best thing ever

edit: haha 'doesn't pussyfoot around'

ok no 'taking tabby mountain by flavour' is better

I cannot stand this guy.

He goes alongside Jane Goody, as unfortunate trash, from a trashy show, to be launched as a celebrity, because of the trash-loving general public.

His career was only boosted by his prank calls to Andrew Sachs. Excuse me, but I never saw the funny side to mocking the grandfather of a satanicsluts.com member he'd been with.

Guy is a total prick...

Sadly that's the key to his popularity. It's the general public who popularize our celebrities, and too higher % of the public just love assholes. And that's why he's such a prominent celebrity.

Actually was he supposed to be in recovery at the tie of that phone call? I would have no tie for that type of behaviour, if he was I wonder what his sponsor thought of such behaviour.

Yeah who is his Sponsor ?
Never gave it a thought but now you mention it i want to know . Cos he don't half like the sound of his own voice , must drive his sponsor round the bend !

Well it would be one fourth step I wouldn't want to listen to, I imagine it would go on for days!

But to be fair he is entitled to his privacy, it is when he tries to be spokesman for all addicts or for treatment I have issues with and it seems most people here are the same. I am glad he found a recovery system that works well for him and it seems he is happy with it, but please allow others to have different ways of recovering or whatever word you want to use.

I used to find him incredibly annoying, but his recent writing has been really, really good. His piece on Thatcher for the Guardian was note perfect - managing to spell out his anger without being vindictive or going for cheap dancing-on-grave antics:

He's still quite annoying to watch on TV, but he has this remarkable skill of being highly critical (to the point of rudeness) whilst making it come across as a bit of a laugh, so his targets who are a bit slow on the uptake tend laugh along, as if they're all in a sketch together. It's superbly disarming.

I hate Brand's comedy but what he's doing is commendable. He tip toed around on QT I thought, his other interviews are alot more gun-ho. So was his speech in front of House of Commons. He can't go full on when on TV, people will just mug him off as a junkie who wants a legal fix. We should be grateful somebody like him who is constantly in the public eye is trying to force some positive change

^^

I dunno - I think saying "I can get drugs anytime legal or not" downplays the horrendous suffering drug users are put through by the police/justice system. I think the suffering the police cause is far more devastating than the risk they face from the drug. As Keith Richards said "I never had a drug problem, I had a police problem".
