Russel Brand... your thoughts?

None of us have access to all of the evidence. Unless you are prepared to sit in the public gallery for every single day of the trial, you will never know all of the evidence.

The wheels of justice turn slowly, but grind exceedingly fine.

I like how all of these rightwingers always instantly use the defence they are being targeted for being "outspoken against the government"

To some he may seem an obnocious, mouthy anti establimentist, and therefore is/could be prone to conspiracies about him due to what he says/jokes about, in ways i personally believe he has made himself a target but unwittingly so, to be 99.9% honest im netrual to a slanging off about him, others though seem to like great british marmite love him or hate him.

I've thought a lot about this and I conclude that RB who while having gone through multiple expedient transformations, has never adressed the most glaring fault in his own nature. Arrogance. Re-enforced by the fact that he's got away with it for 25 years. Getting fired from four British TV shows destoryed his UK careers but he's managed to hang on via social media. As with all social media, we ALL know how easy it is to manipulate the number of subscribers and in essence, that is his income... well, the official part (£2000-£4500 per podcast based on viewing figures).

But look closer - unstil recently he was asking his followers to donate to a 'charity' who he is a director of (Stay Free Foundation Charity number 1199269) which was closed a couple of months ago:. But it was listed as a BUSINESS!

Would it surprise anyone to learn that the charity didn't return it's annual return (June 30th 2024) but it took a year to officially be struck off? All I can tell you is that there is a £70,000 black hole.

The charity came under invstigation on 26th September 2023. I suggest that's because that's the year where the 70K went missing.

In short, I do not think RB is actually in the same financial position as he was a decade ago. Because while £70,000 IS a lot of money to most of us, I have a snakly suspicion that his 'estimated worth' is nowhere near the true figure. On further investigations, all of those estimated values are several years old.

I feel that whatever the outcome, he's struggling financially. I note he's hosted the semi-final of the PFL (Professional Fighters League - I had to look it up). Now is it just me or is that a REALLY unlikely tie-in? It seemed like nobody even announced it beforehand. Does that suggest someone else dropped out and Russell was cheap and had a totally empty diary?

He's a self-professed Christian who sells 'magic amultets' for £180 each,

Oh, and his publisher is suing him for £220,000 for failing to write two self-help books.

It just seems like the ONLY thing he has to sell is his brand (no pun intended) but no two things seem to go together.

BTW court case now scheduled for 3rd June 2026.

Agree completely, other than the fact I'd swap 'arrogance' for 'narcissism'

I didn't use the term narccicist because it's a formal psychiatric term and I didn't feel qualified to make that diagnosis.

I AGREE with your diagnosis - but unless one of us is a psychiatrist, it can only be our best guess.

But hosting a semi-final of PFL (Temu UFC as a friend termed it). It simply does not fit his image - but I contend he's made a lot of money and spent it. Someone who is supposed to be worth anywhere betewen $20 and $50 million doesn't end up stiffing publichers, and charaties for what should be spare change and certainly doesn't host the semi-finals of the 'Temu UFC' as a friend terms it.

I think he's living off his podcast and that's a generational think. Young gullable people grow up, realize that they have been conned a few times and begin to be more critical of who they give their money to. I very much doubt his picked up a new 'follower' for years and the fact that 6.5 million subscribers only resulted in a couple of hundred thousand views per episode does sort of suggest people are figuring him out. Is it conspiracy theories, self-help, Christian convert, MAGA fan or whatever he does next? Even the most ardent fan is going to ask why someone who previously told people not to vote would then be pro-MAGA...

I think for any of US, his income would give us all amazing lives. £10000-£20000/month is a pretty awesome wage... but it's nowhere near the income of the super-rich.

I noted that he didn't even issue his own PR statment on hosting the foxy-boxing (or whatever it was). Apparently 'he and his team jetted it' which you can take to mean 'RB and a dozen helpers arrived in a private jet' OR 'RB and his PA got economy seats on a scheduled flight to the event'. I strongly suggest the latter is closer to the truth...

Before it was a psychiatric term, it was a metaphor derived from the Greek myth of Echo and Narcissus. It is okay to assess someone of having narcissistic traits while avoiding the urge to pathologise. This current epoch is hung up on labels as a means to identify, and the blurred lines between casual assessment and psychoanalysis have been popularized ad nauseum to a tremendously toxic degree. I appreciate your reticence to avoid the urge to diagnose out of turn; so many folks online want to tell me about diagnostics because they follow an influencer that gets it while my clinical degree only makes me a profiteer. Rubbish!

Although I think it's important to note that while it's accepted that a person cannot be formally diagnosed with a transient mental illness after an appropriate forensic psychiatric evaluation, I'm told that personality disorders are actually easier to identify when a persons behaviors are monitored over extended periods and specifically not within a formal interview.

I think the logic is that one of the defining features of some personality disorders is that the person will refuse to accept any diagnosis. After all, if you honestly believe that everyone lies, everyone is simply out for what they can get and everyone finds it natural to manipulate others without regard to the harms caused... you assume you are 'normal' and especially with narcicissm, a diagnosis would merely be jealous on the part of the persons giving the diagnosis.

My wife noted that RB would excuse his behaviors on his drug use in interviews. She was surprised that nobody challanged him by simply saying 'well, that may be a reason, but it's not an excuse',

He's been enabled.

Then, around the time the offenses he was charged with were said to have occured, he went into some expensive private therapy for sex addiction. I suggest to you that it was a pre-emprive measure because he recognized that complaints had been made.

Now that will NOT be accepted as a defence. A judge could potentially take it into consideration if guilt is proven and sentencing is being considered, but I DO think RB thinks he can manipulate a judge and jury.

But I am honestly left wondering just how much money he actually has. Because the huge figures mentioned around book deals revolve around sales and while his first autobiography was without a doubt a huge success, the second one sank without a trace. That's when he went through his anti-politics phase and wrote a book whose basis was 'don't vote' - which I would argue didn't work out too well for anyone.

Then he has seuged from alternative politics to self-help to reborn Christian who sells magic amulets (!) to pro-MAGA. In essence, whatever sells. The problem is that even his most ardent fans are going to discover that the product is chaning in response to sales rather than to any internal system of morals or indeel logic.

So I await the trial with interest. Right now I imagine what money he has will carefully be hidden - but if part of the sentence is a fine, assets recovery simply works out how much was made and base the size of the fine on that. Refustal to pay the fine results in inprisonment or indeed increased terms of inprisonment.

Are we still allowed to say cunt in here?

Russle Brand is a complete cunt. Thought so from the start, he had an "arch" tried to brand himself as a spiritualist and still shown himself to be a cunt.
