Russel Brand... your thoughts?

I agree about Brand's use of over complicated words and sentence construction detracting from w/e he was trying to say. In that regard he's exactly the same as Jordan Peterson, who's construction of his verbal sentences and choice of words is often so complicated that the meaning becomes entirely lost, or hard to follow, at best. Effective communication should not be like that.

It's ironic, to say the least, that one of his "12 Rules of Life" as per the book that made him famous, is to "Be precise in your speech."

It would be a nightmare, although possibly entertaining in a very small dose, to listen to Brand and Peterson engaged in some kind of podcast or social media video discussion, interview, or debate.

Yes, JP's actual list of 12 Rules For Life is (mostly) a good list. He first posted it on a Quora thread, and according to him, he "won Quora," as his list went on to become massively upvoted, and it became some sort of viral sensation on the platform, which prompted him to expand his list into a book.

Unfortunately the book is very patchy, with loads of waffle, as you might expect, but with some valuable nuggets and insights in there too. It was another audio book that i had to consign to my 'Did Not Finish' folder :rolleyes:

I'll have to look out for that podcast.

TBH I honestly didn't realize it was 12 whole years ago that the interview took place. Russell Brand has been several other people since then.
 
What I have noted is that whenever I've read a Russell Brand 'apology' for past behaviors, he explains that at that time he was a drug addict or a sex addict or whatever. Those are reasons, not excuses. It's always something external to him, rather than him directly saying 'What I did was wrong'.

Maybe I'm being totally unfair and he has directly said it - I don't really keep a close watch on his doings, but after a couple, I was left thinking that one behavior common to addicts is to blame something or someone else. It's never their fault.
 
I suppose the other sort of person who will always blame others are psychopaths. Russell Brand does have that shallow charm. The few times I've seem him 'passionatly' give an opinion, I've never felt he was really passionate. It all felt superficial. Lack of empathy, poor impulse control, inability to accept criticism. It is stuff we have seen.

But that's based on maybe 40-50 minutes of viewing his stuff over the years. I suppose I just thought 'I'm not too keen on this person, I won't watch any more'. I don't think I THOUGHT about why, I just felt it at the time.

I only just realized that the time-span of the alleged offences are BEFORE the whole Jimmy Saville scandal kicked off. It's hard to find an accurate list of who Russell Brand worked for over that time-span but it does appear that there was at least some BBC involvement i.e. RB wrote and starred in RE:Brand that aired on UK play (part owned by BBC Worldwide) well as 'Cruise of the Gods' made by Baby Cow Productions for the BBC.

I am in no way asserting that Russell Brand is guitly of any crime, only that the BBC has a terrible record for dealing with complaints.

Only a couple of months ago the BBC released a 'comemerative cut out and keep sincere apology' for their failure to take complaints against RB with the appropriate amount of concern. But to be clear, that specifies the years 2006-2008.

I have to say that it seemed likely to me that if RB had decided not to return to the UK, his recent religious and political epiphanies may had offered him some shelter. That said, by answering bail his legal team will now have access to all of the evidence. Even if he failed to turn up, a defence would be found and provided with the evidence, but not his chosen defence team.
