It just got me thinkin......(thanx fairnymph for the post that started me thinkin on this all)
Over time standards for beauty change non stop. A long time ago it was fashionable to be as pale as possible, showin that you never had to be poor or do work out in the fields, etc. now its popular to be really tan. one year a certain kind of clothing is embarassing, ugly, lame, funny looking....two years later the same thing is suddenly the new popular thing. everyone made fun of the horrible clothes of the 80s , when i was a younger kid. "tacky" is a word youd hear alot about that shit. like OMG i cant believe i ever wore that, sooooo lame, etc. Now all this stuff that was "tacky" and unfashionable is suddenly THE fuckin look. i seen a article in the daily news that "leggings" are the new thing again! lmao. i had those when i wa slike 5.
it goes back and forth. and each time, whoever didnt change their look to the new look, is somehow uncool or unfashionable. The standard changes and each time, women are obligated to follow the new trend like its the new rules, new way of life, change with the times, etc. What im sayin here is that there are certain "rules" that (mostly women) have come to accept over time.
What i wanna know is, how can you put so much weight on something that was made up, at one point, just according to a few peoples personal preference. This aint the gospel, its a subjective, arbitrary thing that some designer or something came up with. Even "You aint supposed to wear white after labor day." Thats one of the oldest "rules" in the book (where its from i dont know but ive heard it a couple times.) WTF is that shit all about?! Who the hell said that, and why the FUUUUCK should anyone care? And why does anyone care? (maybe they dont, but it sure seems like theres alot of people who do.)
I aint saying everyone acts like this. I honestly dont know. and especially here on BL i imagine the chicks would be more laid back. i dont have friends like that and wasnt raised that way. So i just wonder where this shit all came from? How did certain things become so ingrained in peoples heads, that its actually something to make fun of someone over if they dont follow it?
It seems like there is a unspoken "right" way to dress, do your makeup, and etc. To me i just view shit as do whatever you want, who cares whats popular. but i wonder what goes on inside the heads of people who feel some kinda need to follow the "rules." And when does it become a objective thing? when, and why, does a fashion trend or style thats popular at the time, become a rule that all civilized people who wear clothes must follow, and why would you ever take a simple idea that is popular in fashion, possibly the most useless, stupidest, vacant , shallow form of art, and take it to heart so much that not only do you take it as a rule, but ridicule other people who dont also take it as a rule?
Like i said...Im sure i will get alot of responses like "well i dont care, why you gettin your panties in a twist over this, you act like everyones like that but not alot of people are".....I aint sayin yall are like that, i think its mostly the TV n shit that puts these ideas in peoples heads. but for the people who are like that, whats goin on there? like "OMG, EVERYBODY knows you cant wear ______ and _________ togeher!" Well, what if i do? whats gonna happen? some model-wannabee bitches is gonna laugh at me?
What do yall think about all this?
