RSPB Survey - Big Garden Bird Watch

You cheated and I seen you you sneeky beeky tweeekty sweetie :p

You win a lovely Holy Isle mug - if you wish to redeem your prize pm me your details...

Still you fucking cheated :p:p:p:p

I changed my mind...within seconds of typing. And if you check my original answer you'll see why I thought that first...bloody similar....and I know me birds. :p

My cat has got hold of 2 blackbird fledgelings this week, just one left on the nest.

I've got blue tit babies feeding on my kitchen window, woodpecker baby being fed by mother on the peanuts and greenfinches taking over this new 'doughnut feeder' I have full of (empty of) sunflower seeds.

And magpies, of course, threatening everything.

Oystercatchers are fantastic, they appear to have festivals here - thousands of the buggers, they even sit on roundabouts at the beach junctions v. funny odd buggers. Mum and dad weren't too happy with us being so close to the nest was a mistake but lovely find.

My youngest tom Seamus has a political war going on daily with a magpie, its seriously strange behaviour, this cat brings down fucking sea gulls but he's getting bullied by a magpie what's that about?

i love little birds. i'm going to do my marking. i remember doing a mini project at school on birds many years ago. my grandad was a great man for the birds and so is my dad. bird song is beautiful.

Year round for the last forever we've had this blackbird family use us for feeding. We used to just put out bird feeders and that was that but Daddy Black learnt that when mum went in the garage she tended to bring out meal worm and he'd follow her in so we ended up feeding it whenever. Had many refreshing mornings go round the back with a couple of mealworms in the table in front of my seat and just watching the whole family -mummy daddy and them 'chubby' chicks - come up and eat. Also have many squirrels prancing about but Daddy Black flies at them fending them off, great sight.

Have had sparrow-hawks eat many collared doves in the garden as well. Many many buzzards, kestrels and a fair few peregrine about as well. Used to be well into my falconry as a kid. No good pics though :(

Nice story man.

Had a sparrow hawk in my garden for the first time a few weeks ago. Didn't get anything but later I saw him dive-bombing a hedge (spectacular sight) and coming out with a sparrow, eponymously. Collared doves eh? Impressive.

Buzzards kestrels and Peregrines eh?

I'm Buzzards and many many Red Kites. You can guess my location. You can PM me yours (or not). I'm interested. You have good bird life.

Devon here, access to 3 moors within an hours drive + possibly the best surfing beaches in UK. I'll take a guess you're either someset/avon way or cornwall.
To be fair the collared doves in our garden are slow, fat and stupid so I can't imagine they were much of a challenge. I just wish I was better with a camera.

Regular daily sightings of sparrowhawks on the bypass here.

The garden is full of the usual small birds - great, blue and coal tits, robins, blackbirds and collared doves. Still hearing the goose "bypass" migration route overhead. Loads of oyster catchers on the beach, still plenty of ducks too.

I <3 robins, they're so cheeky :D

Ladies and gents please do not forget the feathered reptiles during the inclement weather. No not the royals in a fascination, the birdies. They need both food and water when it is very Cold. Nite nite time for question time. Who needs h for a nod when ya got dibble by. I love it reallyp

Great post PP <3

Sunflower hearts and niger seeds were bought this week cause I was out of stock.

feeding surfaces were cleared (of snow) y'day morning for the ground feeders to feed

currently have feeders out containing
nuts
Niger seeds
sunflower hearts
fat balls x 2 feeders
3 hanging flat feeders with a special bird feed mix I made myself for robins and blackbirds

I even chopped the nuts so the sparrows can eat them ... the robin and blackbird in my garden all hoover up the leakage that ends up on the ground from the feeders too

The snow situ is gonna get worse tomorrow, so I suggest/hope that peeps even cut and throw out whatever stale bread theyve got ... tha birds will be happy with owt tomorrow and the weekend I recon

<3

Good for you Marmz .
The wee fellas will be needing our help right now . That's a pretty impressive set up you have got.

I haven't got a garden but their is a tree just outside my window . So i got some fat balls the ones that come in that plastic netting stuff like this
fatballs.jpg
and using much guile and dexterity have managed to hang them from said tree.

My Mum has a very impressive set up not unlike yourself .

2 Fat ball Feeders
Nuts
A Feeder containing standard bird food mix
and one with Niger seed
I'm getting a Coconut tomorrow & will be making a feeder out of that . I have done this before & as well as being fun they make great feeders , haven;t decided what to put in it yet .

I urge everyone else to spend a few pennies on our feathered friends at this time of the year .

Gotta get me something like that, lots of peckish little birds hanging around near my place and I feel for them what with this snow.

Like i said the kit is well cheap you can get a feeder & fatballs for under £2.
There isn't much you can do with £2 that will bring you as much entertainment , do as much good & big up your karma as feeding the birdies
