Swansboro here....
Dunno If ii replied to this yet but I seen someone here from Swansboro holyshit....I thought I was the only one...yeah it sucks...

Is Fayetteville really that bad? my friend wants to move down there

I'm in Raleigh,
never lived in Fayettville but i know alot of people from there, any place with the nickname Fayettnam must be pretty damn bad.

Fayetteville cant be as bad as Charlotte. Here they dont even have the resources to prosecute criminals. Violent offenders are released after a night in jail.

So what do they do? They work the really bad crimes, like prostitution. 8(

I moved to Charlotte, NC from San Diego, CA. Lost the website, and now here I am LOL.
I HATE it here! Seems that everything is SOOOOO hard to come by!
And not to mention the party scene is SOOOOOO much different.

Any tips on Adjusting to the South? And any good clubs? I used to go to Mythos, not around anymore, and then was going to 2000 changed name and management, no more fun. Tried Sky, was dead. Went to a couple in SC they keep changing names also, had little luck there.

Please help, getting to a point of desperation LMAO>

My advice: move somewhere else.

Charlotte is dead as far as nightlife goes. I have lived hear 10 years and its always been the same. Didnt know 2000 was under new management. What did they do to screw it up?

Club 2000 is now called Ricks Caberet and it is strictly a male & female strip club. It REALLY blows! The fact that Mythos is gone, still brings tears to my eyes. Guess my search really has ended lol and I will stay sober for as long as I live here (not by choice LOL)
THanks for the Info!

Charlotte News:

The former proprietors of Mythos are opening a new venue in the same location as the old Mythos in the next 3-6 months, although word is it's going to be more of a lounge than a club. Supposedly it's going to be called Forum.

Also, you might want to check out Sunset Club on Fridays. Third Eye Productions (the folks that used to sponsor events at Tonic) sponsors an event there called "Taboo" and brings in some great local as well as national talent...e.g., Danny Howells is spinning there tomorrow night. Normally Sunset is a private club, but as long as you mention that you're with the Taboo folks you'll get in (usually $5-8 cover).

Although it's a martini bar/lounge, another place you might wanna check out is Tutto Mondo's. They have someone spinning almost every night, and they have some great resident DJs...Greg Pappanastos and Sweeney are two of my favorites there. It's usually a really good vibe there.

From what I have heard..............Mythos "area" will be torn down to make room for the new arena as well as the parking for the new arena.
Have you heard anything about this?
I hate when a "new"club opens seems cops are all over it.
It did ge tfunny though up at mythos, seeing the "undercover" TRY to fit in, it was always a joke! We definitely knew who to steer clear of!
I hope what you say is true, because that was the BEST club in CLT.
After that closed we were going to Tonic, and thenit was also closed down! Now there is SKY have been in there about 5 times and it had all of like 5 people in it (literaly including the DJ LOL)
*Fingers Crossed it will return!*

I can personally confirm that the rumor you heard is untrue. I went by the old Mythos spot about a month ago, and they were already doing renovations inside for the new venue. From what I could tell, they were adding a second floor above the old main dance floor area. If the rumor were true, there's no way they would be spending that kind of money to renovate it.

For that matter, given that it's one of the main hotspots of downtown nightlife, there's no way they would tear down that block for arena parking. That block generates too much revenue, and there's already plenty of other unused space right around the arena.

Like I said, you might want to consider checking out Sunset Club on Friday nights. Third Eye was the crew responsible for bringing alot of talent to Tonic, so if you liked Tonic you'd probably like the talent at Sunset. One caveat, though...Sunset is geared toward a bit more upscale crowd than Tonic was, so be prepared to see alot of thirty/fortysomething people in there, more of a martini bar atmosphere, less dancing and very little ravah flavah.

Any idea why they closed it down to begin with? If the club was doing so well, like I know it was Why are they changing the name and everything? Was it the drugs do u think? I mean we ALL know what was going on in there! LOL Anyways just wondering!
Any idea when the club will be set to open?
Sunset doesnt sound like "my cup of tea" LOL
Did u used to hang out at Mythos?

No, I don't think it was the drug issue per se, although the anti-rave ordinance movement probably did affect Mythos' business. Mythos didn't have NEARLY the visibility problem that Midnite had...it was basically shameless open dealing season in Midnite.

In the last 1-2 years it was open Mythos really didn't draw much business except on nights when they had national headliners come in, but when you think about it, Mythos long outlived a typical club lifespan. Most clubs are lucky if they last 5 years or so in the same incarnation...Mythos lasted 11.

I think the main reason Mythos closed was just changing tastes in "the scene". In Mythos' heyday, since it was really the only thing going in town, the clubbing generation concentrated there. I remember recognizing alot of the people that hung there just from seeing them there time and time again, and it almost felt like a "family". You got comfortable seeing those folks...you just knew they were gonna contribute to a great vibe, and that made it even better.

These days, you just don't have a large clubbing element in Charlotte seeking a bona fide club setting. The club generation from 5 years ago has faded away, and that's understandable...people get married, settle down, etc. Nowadays what's left of the old clubber group seems to have shifted to lounge-type venues like Tutto's...us older clubbers can't always get it done as hard or as often as we used to, ya know. ;)

Plus, the club scene in Charlotte these days is diluted with more commercialized/hiphop club venues, and the new clubber groups seem to gravitate more toward those settings like Menage or Crush rather than a Mythos-type club setting. The days of the Mythos-type club generation in Charlotte are gone, I'm afraid.

I don't know when the new venue will open, so the best bet would be to check Creative Loafing every week or so (if you have access to it) for teaser promo ads.

My Mythos heyday was in '99-00, when Mythos was in its prime...I probably went there 1-2 times a month on average during that two-year span. When Mythos was on (and rarely was it NOT on during that time) and Andy K and Tober were hitting it on the decks, that place would just lift off.

I went to the final Mythos night to pay my respects...my first BL journal entry pays tribute to it. %)

Just fyi, the vibe at Sunset on Taboo nights is not bad...there are plenty of couches to chill on, and the music is usually excellent. It's more of a lounge than a classic club though so you won't get the club lights, and I've never seen any "raver toys" there, but as long as you don't show up all candied out, basically advertising your intentions, I don't think anyone would hassle you. The times I've been there it's been a very chill atmosphere...there's some dancing and alot of just chilling, so if you wanna hang with friends and hear some good talent it's not a bad call.

Going to The Crystal Method show on Friday (the 19th). Any other bluers goin? I've been a fan for years now, hope it's worth the 20 bucks I threw down for tickets. I'm hoping they don't stop the show @ 11pm like they did this past year at Tremont. They will be playing at Velocity which is a big warehouse type place...Hoping this will bring back memories of my raving past....See ya there.... :)

NC native here, recently moved back from San Diego, CA. I'm working on putting together a weekly here in Raleigh for deep/funky house and breaks, so I'm always looking to meet peeps who are interested in supporting the scene here. Hit me up!
