Ritalin - dependance and withdrawal.

Can small doses of ritalin - 10 - 20mg per day in an adult male cause dependance and withdrawal problems?

If so, to what extent?
 
like any uppers its going to be a mental addiction. 10-20mgs a day does not seem like much of a habbit. When u abused ritalin, i was 15-16 years old and still took much over the amount you talking ahout,,like 100`s of mgs. i did it daily for a while and noticed and mental addiciton simmilar to cocaine. But in your case id have to say no,,,not really. Depends to...are u using it medically, or are u crushing the tabs and snorting them...that makes a huge differance also.
 
Ritalin will not cause dependance or tolerance in an individual when taken orally (at recommended dosages 0f not more 60 mg/day). When snorted, dependance and tolerance do occur.
 
Well, I have only been using them a short time. Initially to help with energy and motivation while I was going through a withdrawal phase. I carried on using because I enjoyed the extra wake up kick in the morning.

Anyway, I didnt take any today and I felt exremely tired and disphoric with flu like symptoms - sensitive to light, cold etc. I tried caffeine to kickstart myself and it did nothing to me, so I took a single 10mg pill and I was fine again in an hour or so. Plenty of energy/motivation.

I wouldnt have thought such a small amount of such a mild stim could cause a dependance like this.

It was purely physical not mental. I am confused/worried.
 
probly a bit lethargic, just generally a bit sleepy and worn out, and diminished motivation (feels like things take more effort, maybe a little down, not depressed or anything just meh, and increased apitite, but thats just from what ive felt (to a hugely greater degree than you risk facing) from meth withdrawals, but I dont know how long you were taking it, but the dose was real low (that it was effictively, in fact possibly, recomended dose) and that it was oral any feelings should be really minor and I highly doubt therell be any real cravings

Can you back this statement up with some verified facts, because it makes no sense to me. Of course you will develop a tolerance of some sort if you eat the same stimulant drug every day, and then you'll need to increase the dose as time goes by.

The whole process is probably accelerated when abusing the medication in a manner that makes it give you more of a rush and tendency to re-dose, or to try and produce euphoria instead of just being able to pay attention. Its still going to happen with other MOAs, though.
 
I snort 20mg of Ritalin to help me study (i dont have A.D.D) sometimes i need it once a day for a week and sometimes i dont use it for a few weeks.
 
It's hard to believe that the addiction to stimulants is all mental. I mean, I've heard people getting extreme sweating, shaking and aching after amphetamine withdrawal. Is that all bullshit or does a serious mental addiction also cause these kind of physical symptoms? So, can we say, that "Use of stimulants can lead to a mental addiction, which might cause physical symptoms if it's severe enough." or is it so, that "Stimulants mostly cause only mental addiction, but in some cases also physical addiction" or should we say "Stimulants primarily cause mental addiction, but there's also a risk for physical addiction"?
 
Well i dont know about other amphetamines but i wouldnt say Ritalin is addictive..
 
Ritalin

Ritalins addcitive/dependance nature has been common knowledge for decades. In 1971 the US Dept, of Dangerous Drugs put Ritalin under Sch 11 status-along with Dexedrine, Desoxyn, Biphetamine, because of it's addictive/dependant nature, SWeden BANNED Ritalin altogether in 1968, due to widespread abuse by kids and teens.

IV Cocaine users cannot distinguish between IV Coke and Ritalin. Even in pill form it's popular, drug dealers can make $500 from a 100 pil script on the streets.

It's too easy given the elastic criteria for 'hypericivity' to label normal kids as ADD/HD and drug them with Ritalin/Amphetamines.8)
 
There is a world of difference between "slightly similar feeling" and "cannot distinguish between."
 
I think it depends if you insist on taking the ritalin for several days in a row, even when the effects aren't greatly beneficial to that days' activities.

This is as much about restraint/self-control as genuine chemical dependance. If you look for an opportunity to become addicted then you wont have trouble finding it. Check your PM, I wont waffle off on a tangent in the forum.

and thats where the allure, and addiction, of stimulants come from. everyday is better with that "little extra kick." it can get easy to rationalize doing this, then it ends up an everyday thing. don't fool yourself thinking, it's only 20mg of ritalin, thats kids stuff. the mental dependence and craving of stimulants is separate from their psychical dependence and withdrawal symptoms. don't kid yourself, it can be a powerful mental crutch that you will come to rely on.
 
Despite what many doctors and BLers will claim to the contrary these boards are littered with people who report having their dopamine system fried from daily ritalin use, even at prescribed dosages. Yes dopamine is a robust neurotranmitter syster, but it has its limits, this is not something you want to play games with.
