Too weird to live and too rare to die.

Ah yes.... Words to live by.

RIP Hunter. Rest in Peace.

I'll smoke one for ya.

Definately, I recommend everyone go out this weekend and party hard in memory of this great man who showed us the ffreaks have power to.

When I heard this I felt a deeper loss that I did for some people I acually knew. He was a great man and was an icon for our culture. He is deeply missed and there will never be another like him. RIP HST

I know exactly what you mean, for some reason I felt that his passing had a greater effect on me than even my Grandfathers passing I identified alot with him and when he dies it seemed as though one of the few people left in the world that saw the hypocrisy in the world and was more than just some phony bagging bush (even though I hate bush with a passion). I will miss his insane voice offending and entertaining, RIP:(

Here are some quotes that lead me to believe he shot himself over the state of the world today.

‘The Bush League,’ Sept. 9, 2003

"Why are we seeing George Bush on TV every two hours for nine or ten days at a time, like some kind of mutated Mr. Rogers clone? Something is dangerously wrong in any country where a monumentally-Failed backwoods politician can scare our national TV networks so totally that they will give him anything he wants."

:( :X 8( I don't know why he would snuff out his life, I didn't know him personally. But being a political science major, I finally understood what he was trying to throw at us, like some malnourished kid trying to catch a giant medicine ball, fumbling and unable to grasp and comprehend the vicious and fucked up world we live in, trying to hump the American dream. Although his stories might have been exaggerated at times fueled with mind-altering drugs, he was concious enough to tell it like how it is, how our society have deteriorated and taking a 6 o'clock nose dive. How long can we take this ride, what lays ahead of this gloomy and foggy horizon? But by killing himself, he has focused the attention of the crazed and hungry media and the ripped and hungry stoners to realized that not only we have lost an influencial friend, but also what he stood for in a national character. Maybe he knew that ending his life might start a spark not just in your basement with the Bob Marley and Pink Floyd posters and a hukka on the side but also nationally, among others the people that only recently heard of him because of his death.

"You better take care of me Lord, if you don't you're gonna have me on your hands. There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die." ~ Hunter S. Thompson [R.I.P.] from the brutish realities of this foul year of our Lord, 2005.

I have been a fear and loathing fan for years, but i really never looked into who HST was. Now that he's killed himself, it has spurred me to really look into who he was, and read all of his material. Not just fear and loathing. Wether or not he did drugs, I have always thought his style of writing was so unique in it's own right.

I had never once read Fear and Loathing before. On a whim I picked it up a couple of days ago. I was on the last pages when I heard the news...

Here is the paragraph I was reading when I picked up the paper...

"Every now and then you run up on one of those days when everything's in vain . . . a stone cold bummer from start to finish; and if you know what's good for you, on days like these you sort of hunker down in a safe corner and watch. Maybe think a bit . . . smoke off a pack of King Marlboros, eat a peanut-butter sandwich, and finally toward the evening gobble of a wad of good mescaline . . . then drive out, later on, to the beach. Get out in the surf, in the fog, and slosh along on numb-frozen feet about ten yards from the tideline. . . "
- Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

I guess he finally decided it was time to keep on walking...

RIP :(
