Time to start it up again with the following riddle, rules now apply, person who answers riddle must put forward the next one...

A man walks up to a nightclub and realises you need a password to gain entry, he watches a few people enter, a man walks up. The bouncer says 12, the man replies 6 and is allowed in. A woman walks up, the bouncer says 6, she replies 3, she is allowed in. The man thinks he knows the answer, so he walks up, the bouncer says 3, he replies 1 and is denied entry, what should he have responded?
