i clicked on this thread by accident and started reading thinking i knew where i was (which i often don't)...seeing as though OH is mentioned so much, i thought i should at least let some of you know that OH is hardly the Holy Grail of the Club and Rave scene...having been involved since 1993, djing since 1996, and throwing rave and club events since 1998 - ive seen the good and bad...

while we are doing well in different markets and with different styles of events, we still have plenty of promoters losing money, lots of drugs, and shadiness...

there is a small group of what i would consider the "industry professionals" who continue to bring solid talent and top notch production and in the bigger picture, these promoters and events are generally thriving and expanding in most cases...we've also got the benefit of 3 major cities all of which 1.5 hours plus away and a 4th (Dayton) that houses a solid rave scene...we also have something that Chocolate was hitting on - a different group of people who go to clubs and don't go to raves and vice versa...

i don't know your scene well enough to comment on it, save DJing out there a few times but i do want to let people know that OH is still kicking and going well, but it's also not always roses over here...takes time, money, communication and working together - and we still don't always get it right...

what i would offer is that no scene is dead and no scene is alive...it's all in a state of flux...always will be...just like OH raves are different now than they were in 1995 and the WMC in Miami is different today than it was 5 years ago...etc etc etc...keep at it and follow what you enjoy hearing and seeing and things will take care of themselves...

Can't we just have one Indy thread that doesn't talk about the damn "scene"? Just let it be about a party and having fun! All this talk is what's killing it! Now go out there and dance!
 
Hey peeps I had fun alot of fun at the party yeah the lasers stopin and the
incredibly large amount of fog kinda suct but I still had fun.I brought out 12 kidz with me .Hey don't worry about all the drama don't even listen to the stupid fucks that talk shit.You guys have got to keep coming to these indy parties so we will have a scene again back about 3 years ago indy parties where the best around yep evens better than dayton .So tthis indiana kidz gonna keep on comin out to represent peace.

It doesn't matter how long I've been involved ... all I'm saying is as a newbie, listening to all you jaded mofo's bitching about how "we gotta do this and that to get the scene back" gets pretty damn old. Just go out there and have fun ... enjoy what you have not what you HAD.

we all were new once too......and i haven't been here 10 years.....but 3 years is enough for me to throw my two cents in........but what it boils down to is.....shut the fuck up and get out there and dance. no one is right, no one is wrong....we all just bitch, just to have something to do. we all love music, otherwise we wouldn't go to these events. music is music, no matter where it happens. clubs, raves, my house, car, anyways. just support electronic music!!!! late

again, i think it's worth repeating that greg has been throwing the full flavor events on the LAST WEEKEND OF THE MONTH for the last FOUR MONTHS!!! i don't like repeating myself, but the fact is that these events at bourbon st. have been planned well in advance of this party, and were not intended as competition (and i don't really think it was, since bourbon st. is 21+). it is a monthly event, and perhaps a little co-ordination between promoters is in order.

and i am sorry that you felt the event at bourbon st. was cliquish. there were plenty of good people there, but also a lot of people i have never seen before in my life...soo...i dunno what to tell ya. i had a lot of fun, but that's mostly because a room full of happy, smiling, dancing people really does it for me...

hope everyone had fun that night, regardless of where ya ended up!

and i just had to comment on all the people who continue to diss indy and say it's dead.

yeah, so dead there's at least one club event for every weeknight now (sometimes two). we've got artists like adam jay, slater hogan, john larner, k step and chocolate putting out records all over the place, and playing most of those places. international recognition of indy is happening on a daily basis (peep articles on indy and indy artists in lotus and xlr8r magazines, just to name a couple), and our artists aren't leaving. they're staying here and making shit happen. that's one for the history books, since every other artist from here left to make their careers.

yeah, it's tragic and boring and nothing's happening at all.

the way i figure it is this: if you think nothing's happening, then shut the fuck up and make it happen. or...just shut the fuck up.

contribute, or get the hell out the way of those who do.

wake up people. you can bitch, or you can work. and i don't see much work from those who bitch the most...

OK just to put in my (two cents) I have been in the scene for 10 years. I have been a promoter for 8... I have been here and there and yes it is mad frustrating.. But complaining about how (nonexistent) the Indy scene is, Isn't going to fix a damn thing. You have to get off your asses and try to do something. If you're not with a crew, then try and find one that will allow you to help promote. May it be flyeing or doing e-mail slave work or whatever. But if you dont wanna help then shut the fuck up. I mean you all wanna come to our parties and dance. but then when you get there, You wanna bitch about whatever you can to try and make the party look bad. Or the promoter didn't do good enough. I honestly think Brad puts together some great shows. Granted it sometimes happens that another event is the same night. But tell me a weekend that there isn't another event SOMEWHERE in the midwest. I know there is because I come on this site every damn day. And I also get sick of seeing people bitch and moan about shit. I am not going to do the same cause it's pointless. But when you start slammin other promoters beause somethin went wrong... THen Do it your damn self and leave us ( the ones TRYING to make it happen) The fuck alone. IF you dont like it, Stay home and listen to your damn electronic channel on Cable. I could care less if you wining kids are there. Besides it's makes more room for the kids that wanna see a good dj put on a good set. I would love to see every kids in Indy and all the surrounding cities just show up at one party in Indy. that would be memorable. But I dont see it happening. So to all my great friends that are dj's and promoting alike...... ( shiva, LMNts, JJ Boogie, and so on and so on) Mad love to you kids for TRYING to do something in this ( nonExistant) scene. I think people have had enough time to post thier reviews, rants, and raves about this party and "the scene."
