How come no matter what I do you always have to bring me down Shiva? No matter what I do you have some words of wisdom. I may not agree with half the things you do but I don't post it on a message board.
Lets see...its a party...i want to have FUN at a party...most people want to have FUN at a party.....what the hell is wrong with having a FUN flyer.
Drama and bitching is what killed the scene. I learned that...
did you?
i am sorry that you interpreted my post as "drama and bitching", as well as "bringing you down". it was in no way intended to be either.
i think this is a pretty good lineup, and frankly, i hope it does well. TP especially i am really stoked to see in indy again, even tho i can't be there.
but i do want to point out that knee jerk reactions and defensiveness has had its place in messing things up and creating massive misunderstandings between people who are all striving for the same thing: to make shit happen in indy. period. and you just got defensive because i tried to bring up a point that i find to be an extremely important one.
you do have to ask yourself how we can continue to expand the influence of our culture, and bring new people into the fold. we have had a massive turnover throughtout the history of electronic music and rave culture, and part of the reason is the continued representation of everyone involved as "kids", and while we may all be kids at heart (goddess knows i certainly am), many of us are no longer actual kids. and there are many people who might enjoy the music who ARE turned off by the cartoony imagery and incessant juvenile slant of the party scene. all i am saying is, how do you allow the scene to mature and attract more interesting people, and still keep the element of fun that attracted us all in the first place.
this was never meant to be a slam towards you, your events, or ravers in general. what it was meant to be was a simple opinion of, and question about, why the rave scene continues to stagnate in its own childlike trappings.
lastly, this illustrates my biggest issue with the rave scene, which is that no one seems to want to discuss anything rationally and intelligently in order to pursure solutions. they'd rather get pissed off and take things personally, without stopping to consider what has been said. discussion breeds questions, and hopefully, answers, and that is more important to me than slagging anyone's efforts.
read my post again without entering yourself into the equation, and you'll see that i wasn't dogging you or your party. it just so happened that the flyer posts sparked a question that has been floating around in my head for a while, and i thought it would be interesting to bring up the point and see the opinions of others on the board. in doing so, i think i tacitly acknowledged that i think highly enough of everyone here to expect interesting comments.
bringing you down? far from it. respecting you enough to hope that maybe there would be some good discussion? yep.
