soulslinger tore it the fuck up in dayton last weekend so get ready kids... he is a cool ass mofo

as far as the flyers go
i like them... if any on knows me i am pretty far from having any sort of atraction to things that have lots of bright colors, like cartoons. they dont appeal to me but this flyer doesnt real make my evil hurt like cartoons normally do. They get the point accross nicely, plus krackle is really strung out and i have always had my suspicions about him.

Bunnie, PLUR is the dirtiest cuss word i know.... id tell you where plur comes from (like i did in the hall way of deuces last weekend) but then youd cry

-me

oh yeah and unfortunately we do attract some new older people..... have you ever met a 30 year old kandy kid only been in to parties for a year rolling his nuts off sucking on some nitrous and he tells you that he is a fucking professor at a near by college right before he rubs his married hands all over an 18 year old girls ass? ... thanks i ll take the younger kids over that any day

How come no matter what I do you always have to bring me down Shiva? No matter what I do you have some words of wisdom. I may not agree with half the things you do but I don't post it on a message board.

Lets see...its a party...i want to have FUN at a party...most people want to have FUN at a party.....what the hell is wrong with having a FUN flyer.

Drama and bitching is what killed the scene. I learned that...

did you?

i am sorry that you interpreted my post as "drama and bitching", as well as "bringing you down". it was in no way intended to be either.

i think this is a pretty good lineup, and frankly, i hope it does well. TP especially i am really stoked to see in indy again, even tho i can't be there.

but i do want to point out that knee jerk reactions and defensiveness has had its place in messing things up and creating massive misunderstandings between people who are all striving for the same thing: to make shit happen in indy. period. and you just got defensive because i tried to bring up a point that i find to be an extremely important one.

you do have to ask yourself how we can continue to expand the influence of our culture, and bring new people into the fold. we have had a massive turnover throughtout the history of electronic music and rave culture, and part of the reason is the continued representation of everyone involved as "kids", and while we may all be kids at heart (goddess knows i certainly am), many of us are no longer actual kids. and there are many people who might enjoy the music who ARE turned off by the cartoony imagery and incessant juvenile slant of the party scene. all i am saying is, how do you allow the scene to mature and attract more interesting people, and still keep the element of fun that attracted us all in the first place.

this was never meant to be a slam towards you, your events, or ravers in general. what it was meant to be was a simple opinion of, and question about, why the rave scene continues to stagnate in its own childlike trappings.

lastly, this illustrates my biggest issue with the rave scene, which is that no one seems to want to discuss anything rationally and intelligently in order to pursure solutions. they'd rather get pissed off and take things personally, without stopping to consider what has been said. discussion breeds questions, and hopefully, answers, and that is more important to me than slagging anyone's efforts.

read my post again without entering yourself into the equation, and you'll see that i wasn't dogging you or your party. it just so happened that the flyer posts sparked a question that has been floating around in my head for a while, and i thought it would be interesting to bring up the point and see the opinions of others on the board. in doing so, i think i tacitly acknowledged that i think highly enough of everyone here to expect interesting comments.

bringing you down? far from it. respecting you enough to hope that maybe there would be some good discussion? yep.

Here goes

I agree with Shiva.

If things stay stagnant in the culture the chances of there being any actual growth for the better will decrease. Electronic dance music and the culture it brings with it, I think, are better and more ingrained than images of glowsticks, whistles, and white fluffy gloves. They're symbols that make outsiders (politicians, authorities, building owners) view EDM as...hokey and frivolous. Am I suggesting we all drop house and trance and make Andy C or Autechre musical staples in the way we act and behave? Not really. Perhaps the fashion/style/lowest common denominator EDM sometimes, often times even, projects simply evolve into something more worthwhile and meaningful than some stereotype that only perpetuates why we're not taken seriously in the first place.

I just wish it would grow up basically.

Brad, I'm going to your party and I'm taking along with me three people that are geninuley interested in this culture and the music providing its soundtrack. I'm taking them because the lineup is diverse and talent-filled. And as first-timers, I want nothing more for them than to take away the experience as something positive and maybe even a little enlightening. They are interested in this because of the good things I say about it and the music I enthusiastically show them that will mirror what's being played on the 29th--not from flyers, not from bluelight, not from the usual veins.

The best of luck with this, as I hope it will be a great experience for all of us, void of the types of things that constantly hinder, erode, and suppress the cultural growth of a really cool music genre.

Andrew.

I don't think any post throwing someone's opinions on a
subject should be judged as "bitching" or "drama".

I think that's simply way easier to handle
than someone saying something contradictory
to what you were saying ... or someone simply
not agreeing with your tactics or marketing
strategems.

Lisa pointed out her opinions without
degrading you, or your party,
or your character, or anything else...

i don't think conflicting views should
automatically be deemed as "drama"
or "bitching".

shiva i 100% agree with your statement about people being so quick to call drama. any kind of discussion outside of "OMG IM SO FUCKIN STOKED = drama." lets talk about whats wrong, how else does change occur

I also agree with you take on the direction the scene seems to be going. what i do not agree with is the reasoning for it. granted the mainstreming of promotion and a certain appeal to sterotypes attract a questionable element, but the issue IMO is what do we do with the newcomers to the scene once they enter it? i'll tell you what "we" do.

no one is teaching! no one is telling the kid w/ his eyes rolled back in his head to get the fuck off the floor, sober up, and experience something. no one is circiling the 30 year old pedophile and telling him to stop harassing 15 year old girls with his lights and inhaler. there are too many people content to watch (arms clasped and snickering in the corner) this subculture kill itself.

i guarentee half the people on this board started partying too young. the difference is, hopefully, you had a group of friends helping you along looking out for you and leading by example.

so where does the blame fall? ALL OF US. those who do care and refuse to speak up for whatever reason ( that would be me). promoters flyering at highschools and targeting drug-curious teenagers with their thinly veiled drug inuendo. the jaded pricks ripping kids off, making fun of them, and generally drowning in their own myopia... ALL of these groups share a responsibility for current state of affairs. I'm as guilty as anyone so i choose to rant impotently over a messageboard.

all that garbage aside, there's an outside chance that i'll make it out to this, if for nothing else, to see our own wondci2 do her thing on the 1s and 2s <3

Jeez...

I'm sorry..I just couldn't stay quiet on this one....

but the people who aren't die hard ravers, who would possibly come dig on some good music, are possibly gonna ignore an event if the flyer doesn't catch them.

If someone is interested in going to a party and want to come "dig on some good music" then they're gonna flip the flyer over automatically and check the line up out..As "old skool" as people claim to be it seems the flyer would obviously NOT matter. I dont know if I really think the flyer is that wonderful either but I know for DAMN sure that the line up is and anyone who is interested in the music is going to see that too

This is all irrelevent bullshit. If people are only going to decide to not come to a party because the flyer is too immature (or whatever you're trying to say) then who the hell cares if they're there or not!!

the scene has a lot of problems (obviously) that need to be worked on but I definately do not think that cartoons or bright colors on flyers is at the top of that list...if it is there at all...

URM K

I agree with mona. I dont think a promoter should have to spend big $$$ for a damn flyer just to bring out a crowed. honestly i could care less about that shit, I mostly go by the word of mouth. Or on here. I think that a person throwing an event should care more about who they bring out and what others want. thats what matters. to me any way

But it is true we did bring things upon ourselves, I know not every one did something that screwed things up but a majority of us did, & its not like it all ended in 1 night. It started to fall a little while before all the parties got busted. I mean atleast we still have them now. We should be happy, not pissed off. I mean a year ago there rarely was any at all, I mean there isnt one every weekend, but again atleast theres more then 3 in a year, in indy.

soundvictum is playing! we'll have us a lil romperstomper at this here party then ;)

concerning the flyer discussion, the best flyer is a phone number written on something like a napkin ;) actually, nothing turns me off from a party like a big, gaudy flyer (unless there's somebody i really want to see thats booked, but the last time that happened was this year's winter music conference :D ) <3 word of mouth.

iono yet what i'm doing this weekend, but there's a slim chance i might show up to this event.

Even Andy Hughes e-mailed me telling me he has gotten tons of calls and e-mails about this party!!!!!!!
