the only thing yaw'll need to learn is that this can happen regardless of permits... regardless of the type of event...

and if you chose to go to an event, you need to be prepared for the worst...

what else is there to learn?


on the flip, i hope nothing ill happens to the promoters of the event... they are reputable with the right intentions of love for the music. I hope they come out of this unscathed....
 
that is exactly my point always prepare for the worst no matter where or what kind of venue it is....But in reality people are not going to listen and the police r going to continue to have a field day at any kind of party because people will continue to do dirt at parties.


And this goes to all the self rightous party goers, dj's, promoters or whoever, get off your high horse and quit judging people for what they choose to do...... If you people dont like what goes on at parties dont go......everyone knows what the hell goes on at parties so i suggest people start dj'ing at weddings and start promoting safe events such as baby showers. When we all started in this scene we all knew what it was from the very beginning.....We all may not choose to do dirt at parties but we all collectively choose to go and be around it. So dont judge!
 
Thanks to Nelson for posting the article. I was wondering if there was any news. As far as the party goes, I didn't get in trouble and I even got to stay the rest of the night in my tent with my group. I guess my pint is, be safe and you can still have fun.

=D tgunn, thats the type o' shit I like to hear man, you obviously understand how it functions... I feel the cops see a party as a big drug fest, and some are, but not all. Other than a few MAJOR carriers at that party, it was relatively clean. I have to say to all that think drugs should be removed from parties: granted, in some cases its the drugs that ruin a party, but not always. You do have to realise that in many cases shit just gets shut down because of the whole problem society almost as a whole has with the social definition of what a "rave" is. As far as I'm concerned, a "rave" is socially defined as a gathering of drug-using burnouts who only care about being as stizzled as possible and everyone from such scene is an equal threat to the "wholesome" foundations of "civilized" society. As defined by the scene and others who know more than state-funded anti-drug propaganda (including myself): a "rave" a friendly gathering of people to promote the use of music as a way to communicate and express many thoughts and emotions also, as with any gathering, a venue for socializing and free-thought. We all know one of the scariest things for any long-founded government organization is free thought and the chaotic, unbridled exchange of ideas and expression. We could be a powerful force if we could all come together as a collective whole and stop bickering amongst ourselves. I see it as us versus them. "Them" being those who want to stop something they don't understand: the scene.

We all know that since rave 1 (aka the first rave), there's been drugs in this scene. Fortunately AND unfortunately, this will never change. As far as that goes, why should we change when what we do, for the most part, isn't hurting anyone.

I appologize for such a rant, but I'm seeing more in-fighting and self-blame in this scene. What happened to unity and peace? Is everyone forgetting what the acronym P.L.U.R. originally stands for and why it was a mission statement for a collective culture of people internationally?

And I keep hearing about how the scene is dying... theres only one person who can keep it alive: you!

P.S. - I know I'm gonna get shit for this... hehe :p

For the record - I was as sober as a priest on Sunday until the cops arrived...
 
i waqsnt there, but from what i have read here and on other boards, it seems that many civil rights were infringed upon....

but what i find most annoying is the thought of "comply and it will be ok" that seems to be pervasive...

you dont have to comply if it infringes on your rights...

dont talk to the cop untill you have seen the warrant
dont consent to the cop searching you untill you have seen the warrant


dont give the cops power they dont have... know your rights
 
private property (ie not a permit holding inspected venue) with public admitance and lots of drugs = cops

when its a house and its just drunk kids the cops just bust it up when its found out about by the cops before it happens and they get directions... it gets raided

I don't think that a promoter has to conceded defeat to drug (ab)users and dealers just b-c that's the status quo of raves. Just b--c it's "the way it is" doesn't mean that a promoter can't try and make it better. And what is "better"....? well, whatever the promoter thinks is 'better'.


me, as a promoter, i always thought "do drugs, but have composure" was better.... part of the demise of raves came form people doing REALLY OBVIOUS drug stuff... e tricks, rolling on the floor, smacking lips and rolling eyes whilst trying to make friends with security guards and cops, lovin' up on each otehr in the middle of the floor, puking, et al. these are all signs of lack of composure.

when i kicked people out, it wasn't b-c of doing drugs, it was b-c of them OBVIOUSLY f'd up beyond belief....

that was what was good for me.

Good for another promoter may be the absence of drugs altogether.

Each promoter has the right to determine what's "good" for them. It's their neck on the line. And partygoers need to realize which promoter does what... if you don't like that promoter's policy, don't go to their event.

But having 'condescending' promoters, believe it or not, helps us define the norm and also helps us realize when we might be getting alittle out of hand.... part of how we police ourselves is internalized judgement from peers, whether we believe it or not.

so, don't get so bent outta shape over a 'judgemental' promoter.... we need personalities of all types ...

agreed that you do need composure if you are gonna do that shit. if its painfully obvious that you're totally whacked out of your skull, you're prolly gonna become a problem for yourself and everyone around you.

also agreed that there should be many diff types of promoters, and there are. they come from every creed, religion, genre, background, race, and region... with such diversity, it does allow for other promoters to shy away from practices that make some parties just blow ass... while others make a party great, but still safe. and since each venue is different... this allows for promoters to see what kind of ground is better to host such an event. for instance, while "Grandfather's Barn" was a great venue from a partiers' point of view, it was not such a good spot due to the rural aspect of the grounds. its remote location was good, its lack of capacity for internal policing was bad... it kind of had the "open-door" policy...

just my two cents.
 
Just to clear up a rumor, I did not have any of the things mentioned in the post by Dvine_Junglist_Tool. I got caught with a very small amount of tweak. THAT'S IT! I'm not in jail! Sorry to burst everyone's fucking bubble. THE RAVER THAT EVERYONE LOVES TO HATE STILL RIDES STRONG!

Wow. Very interesting how it all happened.

First the event was cancelled, then back on; as a more localized camp out.

Suddenly the authorities show their faces. Folks, this is beginning to get scary.

By the way, anyone remember YES Fest? (sorry, i had to bring it up)
 
wasnt there, but what I find most alarming about the news article posted was the number of weapons arrests - particularly the sawed-off shotgun

what the hell is going on at parties these days?
