Opioids from dextropropoxythene (Davron) all the way to oxycodone.
Every single class of sedative/hypnotic from diazepam (Valium) to barbiturates.
Various forms of amphetamine.
An average of 20 pills a day.
So while it's an entirely subjective guess to claim just six were responsible. Yes, six were found in his body (and their active metabolites at levels hinting at long-term use), it seems Dr. Nick sort of cycled Elvis though the classes of downer I assume as tolerance became a problem.
I think in his book 'Junkie', WSB mentions an Indian doctor (possibly English doctor working in India) who for six months of each year injected cocaine and for the other six months injected morphine. It was an item of faith among junkies that provided with enough cocaine, they could overcome their opioid dependence. I don't think it true but I suppose however brutal the AWS, shooting up cocaine every twenty minutes would at least offset the psychological needle fixation and probably ameliorate things like depression.
It's termed 'cycling' and has now largely been discredited because while yes, it can overcome tolerance, it produces a psychological addiction to the STATE of being opiated / sedated.
