Unless you can give me a good hard citation to that claim, I will still point at it and say "bullshit."
 
"Decongestant nose sprays are also available and should only be used for 3 days and only 2 to 4 times a day or addiction can occur. When addicted, a condition called rhinitis medicamentosa occurs. This condition produces only a short period of relief with use of the nose spray and severe nasal symptoms when the nose spray is not use. It is very difficult to treat and difficult to withdraw the patient from the nose spray.

These medications open the nasal passages. They do so by constricting blood vessels. These medications can relieve airway obstruction, pressure symptoms and help the sinuses to drain. Unfortunately they all may elevate blood pressure, cause a more rapid heart beat, cause more irregular heartbeats and cause insomnia. They should not be taken if you have high blood pressure, a heart condition, diabetes or insomnia. Decongestants can raise blood pressure and increase the heart rate. In diabetics, they can decrease insulin requirements which can lead to life threatening low blood sugar. In addition, these drugs may cause dangerous reactions if you are on MAO inhibitors or anti-Parkinson medications. "
 
I agree that out of all the drugs I know of, methadone is most addictive. There may be stronger, more fun or weirder or wilder drugs, but I would say methadone. Pethidine, PCP etc
 
negrogesic: standard worst-case scenario informed consent disclaimer. I doubt more than zero people each year die from heart-attacks caused by Afrin.

Before I couldn't survive without Afrin. Oxymetazoline is the only decongestant that works. Dexadrine doesn't even help when I'm really stuffed up. And I've used Dex for a few days and had an easier time coming off it than when I've used Afrin for afew days. Altough now that I finally found an allergy med that works (Singulair) I don't get congested anymore.
 
Dexedrine for a stuffed nose? I've taken adderall plenty of times and that certainly does not affect my nose one bit.

I can't stop using Afrin... oxycontin I can use occasionally without a problem; oxymetazoline has had me hooked for many years. At least tolerance isn't an issue with afrin the way it is with opioids.
 
After seeing that lip balm was addicted... I was intrigued... so I read up about it, Carmex in particular.

I got the little jar next to my keyboard right now. I've been addicted to IV meth and IV heroin, and also marijuana. Now I tell you, this shit is fucking addictive! This little half white/half yellow pot filled with this strange smelling jelly fucking took a hold of me quite quickly.

Basically it's winter over Australia (or heading into it)... I typically use Vaseline for my dry/cracked lips... but when I applied this, god it was something different (compared to Vaseline). It made my lips feel so moisturized and soft, stopped me licking my lips for good... not only that, the feeling of when you apply it feels awesome, like a slight tingling sensation that hangs around for 5 - 10 minutes... feels so nice and cold.

Active ingredients (in a lip balm, I thought that was strange) : Camphor 17mg, Menthol 7mg, Salicylic Acid 5mg, Phenol 4mg... this was for a 1/4 ounce (7g) pot.

Strange fucking thing... very interesting... very addictive. I just kept applying it (hell, it's cheap, legal and causes no damage... I think) because it cured my chapped lips, stopped me licking my lips and gave me what the Carmex "junkies" call the rush.

Please don't take my post too seriously (I thought the whole addictive lip balm, "rush" thing was interesting)... and don't go "WTF, LIP BALM", because I've suffered through a pretty heavy IV meth addiction, so don't go having a cry about real drugs.

I might put some on now :D I think I should really switch back to Vaseline, because it's really getting to the point now where I need Carmex... though the feeling of putting it on when you're lips are hurting (from not using it) is soo nice.

That was just some disclaimer i found. Im sure very few deaths result from using these nasal sprays, and if they did, it was probably due to latent heart problems........


But i definately think that methadone, LAAM, ketogan, dipipanone and related drugs are amoung the most addictive compounds, so are dissociatives if abused enough....

Things that people rely on, like nasal spray, insulin, nitroglycerin/clonidine, oxygen, water, food etc. are really something that i would put in a different category.
 
well comparing nasal spray to nitroglycerin, oxygen, water, glucose for a diabetic, etc. is not fair because all the latter things are required to live. We're all "physically dependent" on basic necessities of life.

But I don't need afrin to live, and ever since I started using it I can't stop. Yes I do need to breathe, but I can breathe through my mouth just fine (that is, I won't suffocate but for Afrin).
 
I still have to say that for any straight man.....its PUSSY. Its what makes us as men do what we do inspight of any circumstance tha may arise. It is the almighty controller of our actions until we die.

I've only been taking it about a year now, and I have to say I definately prefer having control over when my nose is clear over before when I had no control. I use 3 squirts before bed, 2 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon... I figured out that I can buy the cheap generic brands with the lame squeezy lids as a refill for the fancy ass name brand afrin bottles... If you get lucky you can even find a 1.5oz container for $2-3...

I've been strongly considering just buying a liter of saline solution and some oxymetazoline powder... 0.05% sounds like a little would go a long way.

I completely agree with Kalt that this is THE most addictive drug on earth... I've smoked meth, snorted coke, snorted oxy, meth, coke and hydromorphone in 1 line, worn duragesics while sucking on an actiq, had morphine IVs, sucked down thousands of whip-its, sucked down tanks of N2O, done vials of K, smoked pot daily, smoked menthol ciggs and cloves, drank 4 mountain dews a day for months and eaten 120mg MDMA pills.

After all this, I can go 36 hours without any buprenorphine no problem, I've gone over a year without touching meth, 8 months without any coke, 4 months without any other opiates, weeks without caffeine, but I haven't gone 24 hours without some oxymetazoline in a year.

Do not use oxymetazoline nasal for longer than 3 to 5 days. Longer use could cause ------->damage to your nasal tissue and lead to chronic congestion.<-------- If your symptoms do not improve, see your doctor.

Addiction? You might have just fucked up your nasal tissue

Never use this medication in larger doses or more often than is recommended. Too much oxymetazoline nasal could be very harmful. Oxymetazoline nasal should not be used more often than ---->twice a day (every 12 hours).<-----
 
This discussion on xylometazoline is begining to look downright ridiculous folks. I appreciate that everyone is entitled to their own opinion with regards to what is the most addictive drug. I just dont really consider xylometazoline as being that addictive. I mean what has it got to offer users that renders its use so repeatable? This thread has been thrown off topic so many times by the definition a 'drug' getting confused with other articles. I could tell you that im addicted to sugar and coffee with a dash of whisky for example.

Anyway, back to the thread title... I think most addictive compounds are either good opioids or good stimulants period. Psychedelics arent addictive. Cannabis is only addictive to those who are too weedy to try something 'synthetic' or 'hard'. Actually, some good downers are supposed to be pretty good arent they. It's a shame I dont know much about 'good' downers.
