resolved: most addictive drug

NICOTINE is the most addictive drug of all the drugs combined on this whole entire forum. Heroin, oxys, vics, are nothing as far as addiction goes.

thank you

Nicotine is the most addictive drug by far.

Benzodiazepines (short acting ones like Xanax) is a very close second, not cuz they produce euphoria but cuz they are so physically hooking and you don't even realize at first. On top of that, tolerance grows within days and after a month they don't even work for shit but you need them still and decide to stay on for fear of those horrible, deadly w/ds

I'ts difficult to say how addictive nicotine is compared to the other drugs. It's legal and cheap, and it's seen as a comfort to use ESPECIALLY when you try to abstain from the other drugs. If your family and friends stood around applauding you when you quit "illegal smoking" - and offered you legal heroin instead as a treat, I think that many would feel unable to stay away from it...

When you rate the illegal drugs, you've got to ask these 3 questions:

1. How many % of people trying - or playing with - a certain drug will get "hooked" by it?

2. How many % of the addicts will relapse or fail when they try to break their habit, that is, will go back to daily use?

3. When 2, 3 or several drugs are abused, which of'em will dominate or take over?

Sometimes it's speed, sometimes it's coke but MOSTLY it's heroin.

There is a big difference between getting physically reliant on a non-psychoactive drug, like clonodine, then being both physically and psychologically addicted to a drug like heroin.

Im not gonna close this post because its not breaking any rules, but come on, carmex, nasal spray? This is almost disrespecting those who have suffered and endured serious addictions from benzos, alcohol and of course opiods.

I think this post has been quite helpful. I guess it is better suited to the Health Q and A for nerdy people like me who are interested in health/drug related issues.

Haven't any of you experienced the terrible coke nose? I've been forced to switch to just one nostril to avoid the complete blockage (cement head, I call it) of my nasal passages for three days after a good four-seven hours of coke abuse.

I've often been tempted to go and use Afrin, just this once so I can fucking breath already. Now I know it isn't a good idea at all.

Also, I believe the congestion I experience due to coke is similar to what people experience from Afrin- rebound congestion. Such a pain in the ass.

And I agree- the negative effects of Afrin aren't that bad- only an issue if you have high blood pressure.

^ YEah, for real ppl, if you're getting addicted to lousy OTC drugs, I suggest you not venture into REAL drugs. You'll be in for some big fuckin trouble!

FWIW I in no way mean to disrespect anyone with an addiction to any psychoactive substance. The only point I wanted to make was that I've used lots of hard drugs (mainly opiates), even IV'ed em... yet the only thing i've ever become physically addicted to is afrin nose spray. Go figure. No, one does not get high off of afrin (or lib balm) but you do go through severe withdrawals when you stop using it for even a brief period... and when you take a squirt of afrin to relieve the withdrawals, man it feels good. I'm not comparing the enjoyability of afrin to oxycodone, either, so don't get me wrong.

Yea, this almost angers me. I went through benzo w/d after 3 years of being on xanax. It was fucking horrible... Afrin? Ok I won't flame.

What you have to Afrin is some kind of physical dependency concerning comfort not addiction. It doesn't deserve to be called addiction buddy. Most addicting my black ass (I am white %)

i've taken benzos on and off for years... mostly xanax. i probably take a few xanax 2-3 times a month for insomnia. never found it recreational, let alone habit-forming. Not for a minute am I even implying that afrin withdrawals (a disturbingly stuffy nose) is anything nearly as painful as opiate/benzo/cocaine withdrawals. completely different world. but those things aren't sold OTC and those things won't hook you the first time you touch em.

First off, you will not become addicted to Xanax if you "take a few pills" a month, same would go for just a week. Second off, benzodiazepines aren't supposed to be recreational (On the other hand, compared to nasal spray, its fucking ecstasy), however it is very theraputic for anxiety and insomnia issues. Finally, benzodiazepines are by far one of the most habit forming drugs, you are no exception. When you take benzodiazepines on a daily basis for anxiety, that relief alone is enough to get you to start taking them daily.

And to top this all off, if we don't consider alcohol a drug and consider barbs virtually non-existint (which they are), benzodiazepines produce the worse physical and mental w/d's and is well documented. You can die from benzo w/d's. The physical withdrawls may last for years depending on how long you were taking them. Seizures, convulsions, DT's, tremor, extreme anxiety/paranoia, etc.

Yup, when it comes to addiction, Afrin is an innocent lil cute puppy compared to benzodiazepines. Symmetrical, it also pisses me off someone bitchs about nasal spray addiction cuz I have been through (and still struggling) that same dark place with benzos. 5 years straight on Klonopin, quit for 6 months but went right back cuz some of the physical w/d's would just not go away.

I'm well aware of how serious benzo withdrawals can be, and yes a stuffy nose is a "puppy" compared to withdrawals that can cause death. I'm not contesting that fact at all.
