Remixes of old rock songs

In the past few weeks Ive heard some of the best songs that were old rock songs made into techno. The best one is Money For Nothing by Dire Straits turned into Acid For Nothing by 1200 Mics.
The last time I was at Heat I heard techno versions of Kiss I Was Made For Loving You and Bon Jovi's Livin On A Prayer, and they went off. Everyone was singing along and it was awesome.
Also at Bass Station a couple weeks ago I heard both Blur Song 2 and 4 Non Blondes Whats Up which were awesome.

Anyone else love these style of tracks? I think I love them so much cos youve got the dance-ability of techno behind the memorable riffs and lyrics.

There is a good remix of steve miller bands abracadabra by joeski and some other people. There are a bunch of original old rock songs that mix well with house and shit. I heard z-trip mix run by pink floyd into some breaks it sounded TIGHT. The other day I mixed a dj shadow vs. the doobie brothers it synched up to the whole song yeehaw! Too bad I don't spin drum and bass or I could actually do something with it.
PS>Search record sites by the rock bands that might help you find some stuff because they usually label it as DJ X Vs. Band Y :)

i have a bootleg of a doobie bros track thats great. Its got some of the melody and beats to spiller's groovejet with the vocals to long train running. i know it sounds crappy from the description, but its a well done bootleg. The crowd goes nuts every time i play it.

yeah, that bootleg is greatness. i had access to it when i was still ordering from a distributor (watts), but i ordered it like 3 times and it never came. they were always out of it, so obviously people were digging the track.

you know, i never really thought much of the doobie brothers, but there is that "long train running" remix and there's also a version of "what a fool believes" that's very good. the latter is actually a really old ('96?) house version, but i heard someone drop it at the EndUp a while back and it was still amazing.

my current favorite rock remix is a white label breakbeat version of "shout" by tears for fears that i picked up last month. it's a fine line...

i have to be careful though because i'm a huge sucker for good remixes of old rock songs but i don't want to get all cheesy and Freeland about it.

nick fanciulli (skylark)'s remix of shout is really good, but a bit long and drawn out. a shorter edit of it would sound superb.

the remix i'm referring to is by stefano prada. it's bouncy, funky, and a bit proggy. i'm pretty sure there's a 4/4 mix on the other side, but i'm not paying any attention to it right now.

i'm working on this 80's synth pop/new wave influenced breakbeat mix, and this track fits in perfectly. there's also a remix of depeche mode's "halo" in there that's been out for a while but still gives me goosebumps.

I LOVE "Stand Back" (orig. by Stevie Nicks) by Linus Loves... holy shit... that and "California Dreamin'" (I have no clue who remixed that)... f'in eh.

i have that track, if we're talking about the same one. it's remixed by the royal gigolos, who i'm convinced are the boogie pimps under a different moniker (though i don't have any real evidence to back that up).

the one zabiela was playing? I think that was done by Christian J

yes, it's the one by christian j. i don't know if james zabiela plays it or not, but i wouldn't be surprised. that track is a monster.

i really don't understand the current fascination with zabiela, but he does occasionally drop some nice tunes. if he plays "halo" i guess i'll give him a couple of extra cool points.

There's this really kickass remix of "Black Betty" I heard at a Deko-ze show, but I can't seem to find the right mix of it.

Yeah, there are some good remixes out there, but also some crappy ones... I really like the skazi remix of nirvana - Smells like teen spirit (not that old, i know :\ ). Better than the beat hackers rmx in my opinion. Mmm buttrock goa/psytrance, gets me moving any day of the week.

Thre's a house white label mix of Rolling Stone's Miss You out there thats ok, and I heard a Santana song remixed on the radio a while ago, but i forgot which song it was who remixed it. I don't know if you consider Beastie Boy's Fight for your right old or rock, but the house remix is ok (i like it for nostalgia's sake and it gets people screaming the lyrics).

I'd love to hear about any remixes of older rock that people know about.

i have the rolling stones miss you remix. its dem bones - miss you, or something like that. I also have that santana remix (black magic woman), you can get it with a remix of sexual healing on the flip, and it also comes as a version with some other Stones song on the flip. The fight for you're right was done by junkie xl

ahhh, remembered another one

Thanks for the info Mystic...

Another song in my mp3 collection is Skazi's remix of Seek and Destroy (Metallica, 1983... kinda old... well, as old as I am... oh wait, now I feel old...)
It's not all that great.

sure if it's creative, but when it's nothing more than lifted lyrics over a 909 4/4 beat, quite often i find they suck. meathead bogans might like it, but fuck them. remixes like these just help strengthen the argument put forth by certain factions of the mainstream that "techno" is a novelty. there has been plenty of great tracks slaughtered over the years by mediocre artists who have easy access to a huge library of samples thanks to being signed to a major label.
