remeron kills opiate cravings?

first off, a little about my history...

got really, really sick in 01..... had a major staph infection in MY BLOOD, and in my lower body cavity. was in the hospital for months, with out patient every week. i was on cipro, vicodin, oxycodone, and every other sort of meds to kill the infection. it was horrible; i was in soo much pain for at least a good year.

on the downside, i quickly got addicted. i came from a ZERO drug background, to just being a hopeless addict. no tapering off from the doctor, so i found a good source for cheap oxycodone, vicodin...

fast forward to now. i've been on all sorts of SSRI's since 94 for generalized panic and depression... nothing big..

however, i was put on remeron just recently, within 4 weeks. i've been clean since the start. i'm starting to beleive its the remeron. i have ZERO CRAVINGS. NADA. ZILCH. coming from an 100mg oxy to 30 vics a day habit for the last few years...

in my case, its been a godsend. its been weeks now, i don't care, i don't want any, i finally feel good.....

anyone else have any sort of similar story with remeron?

this is just too wierd not to be a coincedence... you just don't stop opiates, not from where i was.... i couldn't if i tried. i just went from pill to pill wasting my life.

now i actually have hope..

why exactly did you quit the opiates? were they effecting you in any negative way at all? i think there needs to be some closure when quitting opiates. people who arent ready to quit, usually don't do so. suprisingly when i went on a certain anti-depressant, i didnt crave em for a while. but after months of clean time, and realizing how high i would get from one single use, caused me to relapse. and damn that high was just like my first time all over again. luckily i can use with a lot more control, and never want to be where i was before. be careful though , you can run from these cravings, but you can't hide.

If a doc had you on opioid pain meds for a year and cut you off instantly without tapering you down, that's pretty much per se malpractice.

yeh, well we all know how opiates and doctors are.... it's a shite situation at best.
as far as quitting. i didn't, per se. since the remeron, i just don't care to take any at all.
i have the access, but i don't want them anymore.
i know the relapse, i know the dangers. im trying to get my life in order, and off those damn things for good.

Remeron will only help withdrawals because it makes you tired. Thats it. There is no interaction between opioids and remeron.

Remeron beats me the fuck out (I got a few of the soltabs from a friend cause I couldn't sleep when I had stopped using opiods) at night to goto sleep, but god damn do I feel ridiculously groggy the next morning from them. Moreso than any other sleeping thing I've taken or anything really (HWBR seeds STRUNG ME THE FUCK OUT tho) and those usually are pretty bad too (seroquel made me groggy). I couldn't function one morning after doing using a full soltab the night before for sleep. I started splitting them in half or less after that and still got groggy!

Remeron is a very powerful drug that causes long nights of sleep, somnolence and grogginess during the day, and major cravings for carbohydrates and food in general. I too found it to pretty much mask any withdrawal. After using vicodin daily for 1.5 months last summer, when I came off I used 30mg Remeron, each night, and though I was too tired to move during the day, I could sleep fine, my body didn't hurt at all, my bowels were normal, and I could eat food daily. It's pretty cool stuff for kicking opiates, and non-addictive.

Even more interesting, I tapered my dose down to 7.5mg taken once every 2 nights. At that dose, I felt alright each day. I can't say I felt great, but the low dose seemed to calm down my nerves to the point that I could feel more at ease and less stressed by small things, which in turn improved my days. The morning after each night I took the 7.5mg I would feel a bit groggy, but once the grogginess went away I felt good.

Also, one morning I woke up with the most wonderful feeling in the world. I had just woken from a dream in which I found this girl I had been looking for in the ocean, and there she was on a bouy (booey pronunciation). She looked at me, deep into me through my eyes, and I felt like she understood me, she knew me, she loved me, and she completely accepted me for who I was. It was a complete and fucking powerful euphoria, so powerful and pleasant, and it was different from opioid euphoria. I still can't explain it, but damn do I miss the way I felt that one morning.

I am kicking this week, and I am going to use Remeron once again to ease the pain. I'll let you guys know how it goes this time, since this is about the 8th time I've kicked any kind of opioid dependence, big and small.

i dont know but after long term use of opiods (if perscribed by a REAL doc. ) they should tapper you off ending with something like Lortab 5 (for some). Your probably past that, i dont know if its the Remeron but if it seems like its working --- then good.

drugs cost money, you can buy happiness but its not worth being a junky... addiction sucks even though drugs are fun

no i haven't noticed that...i wish it would help with cravings, but it doesn't do anything for me. I suppose it may have subtle effects on my craving opi's, its been quite effective at reducing anxiety and i definately sleep better when taking mirtazapine...if i was sleeping poorly and was anxious i would probably crave opiates more...i dunno. i don't think it reduces cravings though...i still have them just as much

Btw Blacklabel, mirtazapine usually comes in 30mg tabs. apparently (and i have noticed this too) its more sedating when 15mg or lower doses are taken. I sleep better when i take 15mg instead of 30mg. But in my case, 15mg isn't enough to help with depression.

im coming off mirtazapine because while it was a good antidepressant initially, and i tolerated it well, it's beneficial effects have declined steadily over the last few weeks. This has been a dissapointment, as i really don't want to try SSRI's or tricyclics...shit i don't want anti-depressants at all...

About the paradoxical effects of mirtazapine drowsiness... The reason 15mg is usually more sedating than 30mg is because as one increases the dose, the mood-lifting effects of the drug begin to outweigh the sedating effects, thus one becomes less tired and doesn't sleep quite as long on 30mg compared to the length of sleep and daytime drowsiness on 15mg. Just giving the heads up.

By the way, the Remeron never did anything to decrease opiate cravings for me, nothing at all.

Well, mianserin is thought to modulate the opiate receptors and increase pain tolerance in mice. It's been prescribed for opiate withdrawals with promising effects. And since mirtazapine is a derivative...

I also take Remeron and it never seemed to curve the opiate cravings. It does however put 30lbs on me in 4 months.

I've been on Remeron 15mg every night for almost a year, and recently stopped last week. I was prescribed it for anxiety disorder and insomnia, and since then I've noticed no major improvements. The only med I've found that actually works for me is Klonopin.

Everyone I've heard that's been on Remeron always says how much better they can sleep with it, but I've never really noticed any improvement. Unless I take Klonopin along with it, I normally get only 3-4 hrs of sleep. Also, Remeron did not help me with opiate cravings either. I guess everyone's brain is wired differently.

Its a decent sedative if you are not tolerant to it. I have been taking a full 60mg of remeron for over 2 years, thats 4 sol-tabs. At first it was too powerfull, i would sleep to 12 in the morning, and feel really hungry, but eventually i got used to it, and know it only helps me fall asleep, but NOT stay asleep. I also have been taking 140mg of diazepam a night which im trying to get off of. Remeron is habit forming, in that it will cause withdrawal if you immediately stop taking it. But the answer to the post is, no, remeron doesnt stop opioid cravings.....

But i didnt find a paradoxical reactions in increased doses. 60mg felt alot more sedative than 15mg. But 15mg still can be quite sedative for a new user......

My doc tried to prescribe me Remeron, but I declined for the same things negrogesic was talking about. it makes you hungary as fuck and induces very long sleep sessions. I could see how it would be very effective for certain people though, this being the case with the poster. he is one of many who has a good success story with this particular prescription drug. this is the case for most of them.

negro: you take 60mg/day of remeron, 140mg/day of diazepam and ~140mg/day of methadone? is there anything else you put on top of that?

i'm only curious because i have been so cautious with opioids since i started them. that's mainly because i introduced myself to them, did them alone and never really had anyone/anything to compare them to.

recently i was doing 5mg of fentynal, ~150mg of hydrocodone on top of that (throughout the day...not all at once), and adding between 30 and 90mg of morphine towards the end of my fentynal fling. i have gradually been getting ballzier and ballzier, but nothing close to where you are. benzos knock me out. i can do 2mg of xanax and fall asleep almost immediately. 10mg of valium doesn't have the same effect, but at 20mg of valium, i'm pretty much looking like a drunk.

so, back to my question (and sorry to hijack this thread, but i'm seriously curious); aside from getting high every once in a while, is there anything else on your daily 'to do' list?

you can either post it here, or just email me. i figure you are getting sick of my emails, and i'm probably not the only one who is curious.

Negrogesic, what kind of withdrawal symptoms does mirtazapine have?

before i began taking it, i searched for any info (including user reports) on possible withdrawal effects, but i was unable to find any. i was worried about possible w/d's because i'd heard really bad things about paroxetine and venlafaxine w/d's.

on the leaflet it says if you stop taking mirtazapine suddenly may cause "nausea, headache and malaise". Is it harsh, or is bad as paxil or effexor withdrawals?

i was on 30mg for around 7 months (i can't remember exactly), and in the last 5 days i've been taking 15mg/night. If i stop today, will the withdrawals be bad? would diazepam taken as needed be enough to get through it?
im a bit worried now...
im also on buprenorphine and i have access to zolpidem (ambien) but i can only afford diazepam.

Cut down to 7.5mg every other day for a while to further taper. I was only on it for two months, but I did a 1-2 week taper when I came off, and I felt fine, no problems at all. The valium should help a lot if you have trouble sleeping when you come off.
